  1. The word 'tasteful' has no place in that sentence. 😁
  2. Well i did this before reading Dood's cautionary note so I'll take the results with a pinch of salt. That said, I got to just shy of 15KHz which I reckon is reasonable for an old git of 61. I used to wear earplugs on the motorbike and I've worn ACS plugs at gigs for the last few years.
  3. I really hope that this doesn’t come across as being in bad taste as I really don’t mean it that way. If it’s insensitive, then, Mods, please remove it and I apologise In the thread commemorating barneyg42’s passing there is a very touching tribute from Leese. In it, Colin is described is someone who lived up to the definition of a musician as “A musician is someone who loads £5k worth of gear into a £500 car and drives 50 miles for a £5 gig“. I don’t think that’s a bad definition at all and one that neatly sums it up for me.
  4. The BC mods? You sure? 🙃 (grabs coat and runs for the door...)
  5. I really liked that. I heard all sorts of influences (a touch of Discipline-era Crimson in that first song) but she also sounds, well, like herself. I sometimes struggle with a whole album of singer-songwriter material as it can often sound very samey. There's also a bit of a limit to the amount of angst that I can handle in one sitting. But there's enough here to make me think that there might be enough variety to sustain a whole CD. I like her voice, i liked the songs and arrangements and i loved the bass. I'm certainly going to give the CD a go. Thanks Miles'tone for posting the full session!
  6. Some people make the world a better place just by being in it. Although i didn't know him, it's clear that Colin was one of them. Condolences to his family and friends. May he find his dream rig waiting for him wherever he's gone. RIP Colin
  7. Odd. I read p**** as a different word entirely. Clearly, I misjudged you and I apologise. Oh, hang on.No i don't -'cos I was right in the first place. You never meant 'Prog', you meant, y'know, what i originally thought....
  8. It was only a matter of time.... Looks like butter wouldn't melt but 'e 'as a right nasty side to 'im at times.
  9. Nice.... Pics when it arrives or it hasn't happened....
  10. Welcome? Whatcha got coming?
  11. No, that was just a game we played, remember? You aren't a private investigator, we just dressed you up in a trilby and raincoat.
  12. So, International Man Of Mystery it shall be. I just tell people I'm Chief Wringer-Out for a one-armed window cleaner. The trick is to walk away while they're still thinking it through....
  13. Well, now I’m intrigued..... Go on, I won’t tell anybody....
  14. Wow. ”like having a lob-on”? Aren't you just a silver-tongued cavalier.......? 😀
  15. Oh, and the best thing for heft isn’t an Ampeg SVT and 8x10. Turns out it’s a Kirby vacuum cleaner* Who’d a thunk it, eh? *this might make more sense if you’ve been following the whole Dyson-in-his-own-adverts thread.
  16. At least you got the ‘s’ key working again.... Back on topic.... I can drive a car. If the car is full of people, I am the driver. But outside the car, I wouldn’t call myself ‘a driver’. That, to me, is someone who does this for a living. A trucker, a taxi driver, a chauffeur. So, when I am doing music, I am at that moment a musician. But when asked to define myself, I wouldn’t use the term musician. And, to be fair, nor would anyone who’s heard me play....
  17. Whoa! You don’t think you’re getting away with that, do you? Don’t think you can wander in with your contentious questions and then swan off, satisfied, while the debate’s still raging. We’ll get another week out of this at least. Right then. You asked us to help define heft and you’re going to bloody well sit there while we define it for you at least three hundred different ways. Then you can ask your follow up. And that better be “and is ‘heft’ any good for metal?”.... Lol 😆
  18. Er, that's Ricky's, not mine. Mine's here, in my hands, look
  19. Only if we kick Teebs out to take his chances on his own. Which is fine with me..... 😁
  20. Turns out to be a good question and one worth asking, Lou24d53. It's one of those things that can't really be described but we all know it when we hear/feel it. I liken it to acceleration in a car with a lot of torque. It may be the same rate of acceleration as a car with lots of high revving power but the thrust has a different quality to it. In the same way, Heft isn't volume or loudness or bassiness (sic) - but it's related to all these things. I think it's a combination of the cab, the amp, the bass, the strings and the player. All subjective opinion, of course, but i doubt anyone on here would disagree....😁 (retires to shelter and jams fingers in ears)
