1. More food for thought I've tried this and it works well for recording, quiet live situations and with a pup for louder situations. I've also substituted different mics for different tone. Great thread by the way.
2. Have you checked out the DPA 4099 Chris? Quite a bit on TB about these too.
3. We've used an old SM58 and a D112 in front of the bridge about a foot away, plus two Rode tube condensers picking up the room. The room matters as mentioned before.
4.
Confused of Dorset here.....what's going on, what hack?
Terribly sorry, there was a nonsense post on this thread from an new user that's now been removed and I feel my comments on that post have derailed your thread. My sincere apologies.
5. The drummer kicked ass as well. Great stuff.
6. I made my own You can buy the strips of foam for about £10-15. I had some ply knocking around and some carpet. Works a treat.
7.
A hack?
Well, his post is now gone but there was the one in this thread plus a post in another thread. If it wasn't a hack it was a dork messing about in the threads.
8. Looks like a hack to me
9.
Hi TPJ I'm going on the third pic, the cut of the f hole which is bare wood, see the ridges? Adi
Yep, but it also looks painted on the edge so again hard to tell. Is there a luthier around you that you can take it to for a definite answer?
10.
Ok, I'm putting this up for a cash sale now. £200 posted with hard case.
Great price for this.
11.
Price Drop Now £700 !!! What's the verdict on the Carved/Laminate question?
I can't see any lamination in that first pic but it could be the finish obscuring them. Still hard to tell from the pics. I'd love check this bass out but just a bit too far from me.
12.
I checked the front F holes and it looks like ply to me, which is laminate, correct? Is there a definitive thing to look for? Adi
You can also look along the edge of the top. It'll be pretty obvious if it's laminate as you will usually be able to see the layers. Can you take a close up pic of that? Nice looking bass. I like the fuller top bouts.

Many thanks bud.
14. Wont he have a tough time of it if he doesn't regularly play DB? An EUB might be easier for him unless the gig is totally acoustic.

Sorry to hear this news. Deepest sympathies to all his friends and family.
18.
Nothing at all wrong IMO
+1 I just don't have the readies.
19. I've used a DHA DI Eq with good results. Lately I just run into an Art Tube MP and eq at the desk and amp. The tube helps tame the piezo nicely.
20. John's products are great IMO. They may seem pricey but you get a lot for your money, plus he's a great chap to deal with and is always keen to help. I run 9v in both basses with East preamps (both U-retro deluxes). There's plenty of signal there. You may have to look at your control cavity and have it modified to accommodate a battery.
21. Is this a working bass? e.g. pickups and electrics work, the neck is adjustable etc...
22. 2 basses. I've had a few times when the backup was needed. They were well paid gigs and I was glad to have backup and not be the one that let the show down. I left that up to the main act!
23. Congrats on your new bass. Some say an orchestral strings like Helicores give the EUB a more "authentic" sound. Hard to say until you put them on. Innovations are cheaper and darker sounding than Spiros and also have less tension, but Spiros are steel and will work with both magnetic and piezo pups. Have a read around, there are quite a few that where in your position. Lots of EUB owners who experimented with new strings. Also Talkbass has a whole section dedicated to EUB.
24. Sorry to see the Ray go. I can vouch for both this bass and for MrThumb. Great bass and a great guy to deal with.
25. Just to add another one in, I run my Bassmax through an Art Tube MP, then into my amp. The Art has a phase reverse but no eq. The tube affects the DB signal in a very pleasing way.
