1.
No interest in uprights?
I'm interested in checking out an upright bass close-up. If you don't want the hassle of carting it there just for me to have a quick gander, that's fine!
2. A poster for this event has appeared on my work's e-mail noticebored . I take it that's your work William?
3.
STICKER please although work commitments mean I'm only 90% confirmed at this point .... If I come along with a friend/relative/dog do I need to get them a sticker as well or can we just turn up?
What sort of bass does the dog play, and does he get plenty of growl from it? (someone had to...)
4.
Surely you mean that it wont be the LAST you play?
I got the impression he meant there'd be other gigs before this one in September. Go slay 'em mate!
5.
somebody bully me for 2 tickets on the day. if i pay cash the wife will never know.
Ha ha, I was gonna do that as well!
6. I think the argument about 'not liking slap because you can't do it very well' is invalid. I can't play very fast fingerstyle nearly as well as Rocco or Norman W-R but I think their playing is great and musical. I think the vast majority of slap doesn't improve a song. It's a very impressive trick but often sounds like arse. I think we should be entitled to our own opinions on this matter; not thinking a style usually works is not the same as hating all players who use it.
7. Mine is wired that way round
8. It might be worth taking some bass off with the EQ and boosting somewhere in the mid-range to get a sound that's more punchy (eg boost lower mids) or brighter (upper mids maybe?). It might help some, especially as the lower frequencies take loads of juice.
9. Well occasionally I use the same amp and cab as separates, and I find it has just enough volume. My Peavey 1x15 cab is a lot louder, I don't know if the version of the combo with the single 15" driver might be louder?
10. I've a set of LaBella Deep Talkin flats on my 5 and they sound fine. They run 43-128 I believe with a tapered B. Works fine for me in standard BEADG tuning.
11. I had a ZOOM RT-123 or similar (not sure of the name?). You can easily programme whole songs into it with different beats for different sections of the song.
12.
Could you recommend a specific make or model mate?
There's no substitute for getting one in your hands and trying it - although this might not be as easy for you, being sinister. The answer above is right though, almost all styles of bass have been using for metal-indie-rock. You could change strings and the action on the bass to suit your particular style of playing and sound you want. I'd generally advise full scale length ~34"; short scale basses can sound a bit woolly and indistinct when playing fast stuff.
13. Some workmates knew I played g####r a bit, they said "If we find you a bass will you play it in the band we're gonna start". They borrowed a Sunn Mustang, then I bought a Squier Jazz. Great neck, sh1tty plywood body and not great pups. If I'd known what I know now I'd have kept it and upgraded it...
14.
The octaver doesn't track very low. Its ok if you play above the 12th fret, or roll off tone, but it glitches and kicks in slowly with lower notes. Its not great.
+1, I never use mine.
15.
Last night was the first time I had cranked up my gear as listed below and found the horn in the 2x10 was cracking up sound wise. I imagine its a dry joint or something and will investigate later when I get home. Would I be able to cut it out completely as its not something I'm bothered about sound wise?
Was this at gig/practice volume, or 'trying it out at home' type volume? Just wondering cos mine struggles a bit at higher volumes - and I've checked the wiring on mine.
16. You know what, they'd probably all do the job . The Trace is most desirable so will probably go for the most. The Laney stuff is less desirable so you'll probably get more for your money.
17. I'd guess we're probably too ROCK for this engagement but thanks for bringing it to people's attention.
18. My Peavey Millenium AC Bxp was £199 and is definitely up to the job.
19.
Ya, ithink they only made the 600R one didnt they and not a 300R
I've had one for a few years. But no one's having it!
20.
I see you're playing at the Crimea tonight - in which case you won't need a name sticker as we'll all recognise you from the full body cast and wheelchair !!!!!
...rough gig at the Crimea Dave? We've always had a good gig there, mainly 'cos the punters always seem to like our set. I've never seen any trouble there yet either. House PA as well!
21. STICKER Can I have JON (maybe in brackets) as well - I never really use my Avatar name and I'll forget who I'm supposed to be!
22. I thought it was pretty good, though I'm no expert on modern punk. I also liked the 'different' bits eg the stabs, and the slight breakdowns when the guitars drop out and it's mainly bass and drums. It could sound very powerful when tightened up/polished up in the studio.
23. ...can't fault the value, a tenner including P&P. I bought one for my lad's 1/2 size classical guitar about a year ago for about 7-8 quid from the same seller.
24. My old Peavey 1x15 is still my main gigging cab. Excellent sound, due mainly to the black widow driver I've been lead to believe.
25. I used to use 'em and they sounded great. The problem I had was to do with sweat, every now and again they'd REALLY grab at my skin after feeling ultra-slick. I had to stop using them. I think 'arry uses talc or similar to stop it happening... not 100% sure though.
