What the hell is a "pocket", more so a "deep pocket"?
Adrenochrome replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
Almost as bad as guitards describing their sound as "blue"
Straight up? (FWIW I think there's some right bo11ox talked about Mojo, tube watts, tone woods etc as well) -

What about MOJO then ??! -
Both gigs went well - Ebeneezers was very good for loading and a nice stage area to set up on, plenty of family in to see our singer. Cherry Tree was good once we'd sorted out setting up at a funny angle to allow plenty of access round the bar area. We got a very enthusiastic response at the Cherry Tree which was pleasing since it was just locals in there who'd never heard of us before. We've been asked back at the Cherry Tree, we probably need to do Friday&Saturday gigs nearby to make the travelling worthwhile.

Is 'Headless' about to come back into fashion?
Adrenochrome replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
I've never had chance to try one but they seem a good idea to me. I'd happily sling a 'cricket bat' in my suitcase when I travel for meetings and be able to practice in the hotel room. -
I just hope you get it back in one piece and not damaged!!!
I had an e-mail from Peavey yesterday saying they "couldn't find" my bass! Aye caramba! I was very polite in my response as I'd like it fixed nicely and sent back.

Go for a wazz and I'm good. (I usually end up really busy doing something like killing the feedback from the monitors, or some other PA related nonsense.)
Agree with Nick - Ebeneezers can be hit or miss - it's quite a big place but a nice stage. Cherry Tree will be great if you get the regular Saturday crowd as they love a good rock covers band. Hope you haven't got too much gear though, it's a tight squeeze. Can't promise anything but might make it Saturday. I'll try to bring our singer as she's always up for checking out other girl vocalists! Steve
Cool, our singer's family are from Peterborough so we're guaranteed an audience tonight at least. We are just guit/bass/drums/singist so no real problems with space. I'm setting off in 2 hours time so I hope the A1 is behaving itself today! Jon

s'funny cos our drummer is struggling to come in at the right place. Basically I start my part right at the end of the 4th time through the little guitar riff. Works for me. We'll probably play it for the first time tomorrow if we trust our drummer enough!

Don't know them at all but it looks the right size for normal pub gigs, if that's what you're after. Bigger venues would be fine as long as you're going through the PA, maybe with an extension cab also.
Shaftesbury-brand through-necks are quite common, never had one myself but they seem to be well-thought of.
Mine was okay, neck wasn't as comfy as a real one [not sure if wider, deeper or both, or profile wasn't nice?]. I could have put a Ricky badge on it and fooled most punters but I couldn't be bothered. Sound was like a diluted Ricky if that makes sense - similar characteristics but not as rich. I put loads of wear on mine, body binding came off and I still sold it at a profit due to the demand for them.

oh, and as Friday is Halloween, we will be in fancy dress.
-
So my band are playing Ebeneezers this Friday night and the Cherry Tree on Saturday night. It'd be great to see any locals there who fancy it? We have a girly singer and lots of great rock covers to play. The gig at Ebeneezers is actually a private booking but there'd be no problem with people popping in. We'll start both gigs at about 9pm. Let me know if anyone needs further details. ta, Jon

Trans purple. (I've actually got more solid black basses but that's down to availability)

Best time to announce leaving a band...
Adrenochrome replied to Cantdosleepy's topic in General Discussion
There is no perfect time. Letting them know asap is best for giving them time to sort stuff. Waiting for the right moment to speak to all in person is 'nicer' but a slower way of doing it. -
I've always thought I'd prefer a few old slags waiting up there for me. I'm sure you can't catch a dose in heaven.
Speakers and power - explain this bit....

JBL want you to spend more money on their bigger amps. -
A very good point from BBC about how we'd view him and his opinions if he did believe in Santa. I actually think it's been a very interesting thread as I've driven past the ALC many times and never knew anything about it. I'm not religious at all but some of my friends attend an evangelical church in town. We went along to a service when they re-affirmed their marriage vows, and I was very impressed with certain things such as how well my kids were treated and the lack of bible-bashing. There was a strong sense of engaging with the community. I still don't get the whole religion thing though... ...and yes, it's impossible [in logic and science] to prove that something doesn't exist.

I curse you for your extended-range multi octave heresy! You'll be expecting to be clearly audible in the FOH mix next... and wanting to take over the world after that... it's all madness I tells ya... -
Hey, if they do the job then great. Don't tell anyone but the BC Rich I'm gigging with this weekend is really a Stagg that I got for £50 with a decent bridge, graphite nut and EB strings added.
When it says you should pray in a closet, does it mean you should pray in the loo, or in a wardrobe?
Either, but no playing that trumpet! I'm off to beat up my slave - as long as the slave survives for a day or two it's fine.

I've got a Mazda Bongo Loads of space and I can camp in it also, so free accomodation for distant gigs. Also, it drives like a car so very comfy. MPG is pretty average as it's full of electric gadgets [elevating roof, blinds etc] so weighs 2 tons!
Pretty much every band I'm friends with use The Old Chappel in Holbeck. The guys that run it are top blokes and its totally reasonable pricewise. The Kaiser Chiefs used to practise down there but dont let that put you off www.myspace.com/theoldchapel
+1, the owner Mark, plays bass for Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.
