1. Little Steven ( van Zant) and the Disciples of Soul. An excellent 15 piece band. Good show but the follow spot operator couldn't find Steven once in 2.5 hours. Quite annoying watching a frontman plaing lead guitar and singing in darkness. The spot op managed to light everyone else a some point but never SvZ.
2. I play in two five piece bands and it's an hour set up for both from arrival to first song. Seems reasonable enough. One of the thin stringer chaps sets up quickly and plays constantly through the remaining set up time. A total PITA
3. Wear what fits with the style of music or occasion. Number one rule is not to look like a shile of pite. People may have paid money to see you. Make a bit of an effort to entertain them. Many years ago a fellow band member had been building a fireplace and came straight to the gig without changing. Imagine the love child of Compo and Selwyn Frogget on guitar and you'll get the idea, Not good,
4. Do people know it? Can they dance to it? Two yesses and it's in.
5. Thank you.
6. Any Monday or Tuesday live music venues in Birmingham? No car so needs to be city centre. 16 17 October.
7. We use a pair of Mackie active tops. Space in cars and houses is limited. Would one sub be enough to make a difference?
8. Whistlebinkies. Live music 7 nights a week. Just round the corner from the Radisson hotel on the royal mile.
9. If I don't see a music stand on the stage I turn round and walk out. oops. Too excited.
10. If I don't see a music stand on the stage I turn round and walk out.
11. Thanks. I'll try a set then.
12. Anyone tried them? I've been offered a good discount.
13. You have a very positive wife there Big Yin - keep your gear and keep working at your playing when you feel like it.
14. London, Manchester, Bristol and Leeds is not a UK tour. It's some dates in England.
15. Friday night was a bar/diner in Glasgow. Manager stuck his fingers in his ears during rhythm guitar soundcheck. We feigned interest and turned down. Set volume to normal level when punters were in and had no further complaint. Saturday was Whistlebinkies in Edinburgh which is always a good one for us.
16. Point to your own ear and say "Sorry I can't hear you"
17. Larry Taylor from Canned Heat Jack Bruce in his Cream era and the mighty Jim Lea on Slade albums. So I suppose late 60s early 70s era blues rock.
18. Any BC peeps playing this festival? I'll be there with Used Blues on Saturday afternoon. Be good to say hello.
19. Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I only got it to increase high frequencies slightly coz I live in a house with three women. I'll take the HA out at gigs and keep using both plugs.
20. I've joined the hearing aid club and need some advice please. I wear the HA in one ear. I also always wear ear plugs when gigging. What do you do? Take the HA out and continue as normal or what?
21.
Yeah, there's only the two bands playing. It's a home crowd for us but several comments here have confirmed my views about death by support band !!😁 The main band is Rhino's Revenge and we are a Quo tribute, so hoping it will be a great night!
Excellent. We're doing the very same gig in Glasgow and are playing for an hour. You're a Quo band at a Rhino gig. You can't lose.
22. I agree with Lowdown. You original post is confusing.
23. To the OP. If you're a tribute band and initiated the gig play for an hour but get on within 30 mins of the doors opening. With only two bands an hour of you and 90 mins of the headliner is plenty. I assume the venue will also appreciate a 30 mins break between acts to encourage punters to the bar.
