  1. ## SOLD ## Selling this 'air head' Trace Elliot cab. It was a series 6 Trace Combo but as you can see the head has been removed. The cab can be used as a stand alone cab. It has the original 15 inch trace elliot (Celestion) driver that handles 200w at 8ohms. As with all vintage Trace Elliot gear, this is a really conservative figure, this is without doubt a very loud and powerful cab.You could very easily re-attach a trace elliot amp using the screw holes in the side of the cab, and restore it as a combo (screws included) . You could also use any 19' amp head if you first added the rack mount frame /rails. They cost less than £10 and would make this compatible with any 19inch 2u rack item.It is on castors, but the weight is very manageable. It also comes with a roqsolid cover which on its own would cost about £50. Pics are here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1Vxs__yP2SppfMf7kWbo75km-Lp7eU9Js Courier... I'm sure it'd be do-able. PM me if interested in a postal sale.
  2. ##on hold### Hi all, after much to-ing and fro-ing of amps, preamps and pedals the FunkyDoug household I'm now selling this lovely pedal. I bought on BC only a few weeks ago but after trying out lots of combinations I've decided to stick with Trace Elliot SMX amp / preamp that includes a very good compression section, so I have no need for this now. It is in absolutely perfect condition and looks as if it has never been used. Comes in the box with a power supply. Pics to follow. I'm asking what I paid for it which is £120 plus postage. Cheers folks, Doug.
  3. Nice amp. This must be one of the later era ones, and it's cool to see the design evolving, kind of blurring into what became the Ashdown amps. Good luck with the sale (have a bump).
  4. Writing the ad made me realise what a great amp this is. Gonna hold onto the amp and might move the airhead combo on at a later date. Glad I saw sense before it went! ======= Hi, Selling this fab and savagely loud Trace Elliot combo. It is a Series 6 1x15 combo that has been retrofitted with a BEAST of a head, the GP12 SMX 250. The head could be removed again and used independently if you wanted, and the remaining 'air head' cab could then be used as a regular 1x15 cab. The dimensions are nice, it's about as wide a rack unit (19 - 20 inches). To me that means it's easy to get through doors and stairs, which is unusual with powerful combos. Pics to follow. Very clean condition, it represents an absolute bargain. Don't be put off by the 250watt rating, this is brutally loud. It also sounds amazing, especially with the valve preamp engaged. I suspect a lot of people think trace gear sounds dated, but that's a misconception, this sounds like anything you want it to and more. Truly a beast of an amp. Castors and side handles make the significant weight very manageable. It comes with a Roqsolid cover. I'm asking what I paid on BC when I bought it recently. Only selling as I've now got the rack mount SMX preamp and want to use it with a different amp/cab combinations for different occasions. Happy to deliver within an hour of Newcastle if you cover the fuel cost or to use a courier at the buyers expense and risk, although it may be too heavy for most courier deals. This is the thread I bought it from, for reference:
  5. Hi, selling a lovely Trace compressor that is an 18v pedal version of the compressor found in the legendary SMX preamps / amps. It is in very good condition and is still in the original box with polystyrene inserts etc. It is powered either by two 9v batteries or an 18v power supply (not included, but they're easy to come by). They have a tilt EQ which is a very useful thing. Pics are here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=16UYBqyoxS-AxYURU_HS6nZi5SIbCL_cH Ovnilab review is here: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/tesmx.shtml Only selling as I managed to pick up a full SMX preamp that has one of these built-in. For those not familiar with these - a quick google search will reveal that they are generally highly regarded and are the bigger brother of the current ashdown dual band comp (which is only 9V). £80 posted to your door
  6. Hear Hear! great work and it is so refreshing to be involved (albeit in a tiny way as a member) in a community that is so well run. Thanks very much

    NoirBass

Bought the Trace SMX preamp from Chris. Perfect transaction and really well packaged unit. Thanks
  8. Seriously, don't disregard the behri bd121 or the Dr J Sparrow... unless less spending a good amount of money is a box you actually want to tick. Yes they have weaknesses, but they have serious sounds too. Try 'em out before you rule 'em out

    Bass Attack 2

not tried one but I read that manual and noticed something, would be good to get input from others on this. The red stripe section is a mid cut / boost that goes from 200 - 800hz. It can cut deeper than it can boost. That's useful. The surprising part ... The bass and treble knobs on the right are shelving knobs that cut or boost at 30hz and 20khz respectively. Those are, to my mind, extreme frequencies. Is the intention that the they are used more or less as low and high pass filters?? That would seem to be the most useful thing to do with those frequencies. I guess it depends the on the Q / curve. It would leave the rest of the pedal 'flat' with no useful bass / treble control other than the ability to indirectly affect bass and treble via the active mid cut / boost. Any thoughts???
  10. Ok - thanks for clarifying that. Much appreciated
  11. yes, sorry everyone! getting my spark pedals mixed up. There's the 2 by TC and one by Tone City (called All Spark). Is the TC mini a totally clean boost then? no added magic?
  12. hope you don't mind me hijacking this... what does the tone spark sound like? There's nowhere that says it is a tube preamp emulator, but that is my guess ... or is there something else going on? Cheers, Doug
  13. Another vote for the SMX 250. Awesome. @DeeDee got me hooked! It sounds fantastic, very very flexible and as DeeDee says, there is so much power there. Don't be put off by the Watts figure , these are hugely loud amps. The cabs also sound amazing but are heavy. There's an SMX head or two for sale on BC at the moment. Moving them around the country with couriers is a hassle but not impossible!
  14. Hiya Mick, So do you mean that the SMX sound can't be remade by assembling pedals chosen for the job? Not the news I was hoping for, ha! I wonder whether the power stage is the bit that is hard to recreate?? In the meantime I've got hold of an SMX compression pedal so the first part of the jigsaw is there... Cheers, Doug
  15. Cheers Danny, That does look like it could ignite some GAS! However, I'm still wondering about the SMX sound... Is this this thing faithful to that sound?? I think a few of us would agree that the SMX was a really special amp... Do any techs who have worked on them have a view of them based on their experience?? Quite likely to get the Transit B thing anyway though as it ticks a lot of boxes. Cheers, I think
  16. I'm in love with the sound of my Trace SMX12 amp. I'm also aware that it is about 25yr old. Would it be possible to recreate the sound using modern gear?? I'm thinking you'd need; dual band comp (ashdown or EBS), tube preamp that stays clean (Eden do a pedal one I think) and a graphic/ flexible EQ pedal. All of it quiet and lossless. So, I suppose my question is... Is the SMX sound the sum of these parts or is there something else in there that is not on the front panel??? Cheers, Doug. PS. Yes I could just buy a second one as a backup plan, it that would be too easy!
  17. It's used but in good condition. It's a nice gig bag for 2 basses but they come with a built in weakness in that the metal clips that hold the shoulder straps on are made of cheese. I've replaced these with carabiners... Call it an upgrade! Pics added
