  1. Hi folks, Selling my Battalion, you probably know what it is. I think it sounds great but a change of amp means I no longer need it. Pics to follow but for now, https://www.ehx.com/products/battalion It is in very clean condition, has only had studio use, and comes with the power supply and original box. The box is a bit tatty (northern vernacular for 'road worn' or 'reliced') but the pedal is very clean. £80 posted to mainland UK.
  2. On the theme of simple, driving bass playing that makes the song work: this belter! Award winning but long-winded cinematic short rambles on but the song starts at 1:25. One of my favourite mini 'bass solo's' kicks in just after 3:15 Listen as loud as you can! Apologies that this is contributing to thread sliding from 'sparse' to 'simple'. There is an important difference I know. Just couldn't resist this one!
  3. loving this thread. When anyone asks about my favourite bassists, or at least the one that got me started, Lenny Kravitz always comes to mind but I'm often to embarrassed to say so. The usual bass 'legends' aren't what got me started, or what I listen to. Lenny K is a great shout here @johnny wishbone
  4. Tickets are limited and marked up 25%
  5. I hadn't realised the bass doc had been ill, so I'm happy to report news of his apparent bass deal activity. Great casting skank. Coen brothers would hit the mark as directors. That fine line between farce and 'friller is so BC
  6. Thought I'd share this little moment with you... Earlier today I pulled into a car park and spotted a large estate car parked awkwardly on the side of the entrance with its hazard warning lights flashing. Does this person need assistance I thought? A guy was leaning against it scanning the carpark for who knows what... Meanwhile another man was walking toward him with intent. Both nodded as if to say, yes, I'm your contact. Was this a drug deal, undercover cops, secret services???? Just as I checked in my rear view mirror I realised, I know this guy. He was half hiding inside the collar of his jacket but there was no mistaking it, it was @thebassdoc!! I knew that face from the good old days of the bass place, but hadn't seen this revered figure for a good 20 years. My mind raced at what was in the boot of that estate, a quiver of expertly set-up basses most likely!! As my car rolled into the first available bay and I scrambled to get my basschat autograph book out, I looked back and he was gone. Disappeared back into the bass underworld. Ha ha, the whole thing felt very cinematic in a non-stalkery, not geeky-at-all kind of way!! Liam Neeson or Matt Damon would be good casting shouts for the badass bassdoc. This opening scene could then lead to a groovy theme tune, like a bond film, but better Apologies to @Thebassdoctorifthisisabitcreepy
  7. This is the Red Sub (Gear4Music house brand) limiter / enhancer that has clearly been inspired by a well known turquoise pedal of a similar name. It is completely unused and in the original box. Its the BLM-2: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-BLM-2-Bass-Limiter-Enhancer-Pedal/H4V Literally unused, and now discontinued. £25 shipped to Mainland UK Cheers, Doug.
  8. Cheers mrtcat. It is a steal of a price indeed, but I thought in only right n proper to resist the temptation to cash in, having bought it from Discreet himself at this price.
  9. Ha ha cheers buddy , I was thinking of getting a second one to make a pair of them, but in the end just gonna let this one go.
  10. as others have said ... a Promethean, but I think it would have to be a mk1, such as the one currently for sale on BC marketplace! The new ones aren't separable AFAIK.
  11. Hi folks, Selling this having bought it recently from Basschat royalty, @Discreet, who built it and created the very informative (and entertaining) build diary linked to below. It is not getting much use with me after all and, as ever, I'm hoping to free up the cash and space. It is in the same condition it came to me in and I'm asking the same great price; £160 plus postage. Essentials: 8ohm, 400watt Neo loaded (Eminence 3012HO kappalite). No horn / tweeter. The cab is made to the highest standard from Bill's plans and is 45cm tall, 55cm wide and 45cm deep. It weighs 18kg and is finished in black Tuf-Cab paint and chrome corners. For those who've not seen them before, these are cabs designed by Bill Fitzmaurice that are extremely efficient and hence very, very loud indeed. This one doesn't have the tweeters / horns that some Jack12 cabs do. It is loaded with an Eminence Neo Kappalite driver that is suggested in the design plans as the best speaker you can put in these cabs. I can add pics of it in my possession if that's helpful, but Discreet's post shows the cab in its current condition and also links to the build diary. The only difference is that the courier who brought it to me managed to dislodge the mesh guard. It was velcro attached at the angled sides and the velcro had come away. I've used velcro tape to re-attach it in a slightly different way but you can either leave it as it is or just take the velcro off and do whatever you want to do with it! The cab has been gigged (not by me) and does have a few marks that a quick touch up with the TuffCab paint would sort out. It is an easy lift, and fits nicely in the boot with plenty room to spare. Happy to arrange a courier, but the cost will be added to the £160 asking price. @discreet has the first shout here - he may just want to buy it back - but if not it's anyones! Cheers, Doug
  12. In case anyone is still interested in HPFs after about a week off ... the Broughton I bought got held up at customs who, together with Royal Mail, added a lovely charge of about £18, taking the cost of the pedal to about £118 all in. The Thumpinator or another home-made options would have avoided this!

  14. https://www.zoom.co.jp/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_B3n_FX-list_0.pdf page 5. It has a blue star ... does that mean it comes with firmware update???
  15. Maybe relevant to others reading this, the Zoom B3n does have an adjustable HPF, in the Low-Eq module. It is adjustable HPF from 20hz to 640hz.
  16. my reading is a bit different to @CameronJ - I think @Al Krow is saying all his cabs rattle with that bass plugged in. I would think it is very unlikely that all your affected cabs have the same resonant frequency (or close enough) or sensitivity to sub-bass so that they all rattle in the same way when a certain bass gets plugged in. Could it be that the rattle / fault is on the bass itself and is being amplified whatever it gets plugged into? Hard to say without hearing it. I mean ... is the problem really sub-bass, or just a rattle on the bass or in the 'tronics?
  17. I know how this kind of thinking works and it leads, step by step, to you parting with more cash than you may actually need to! It sounds like you either need to use (not own) a notch filter to find the problem frequency or use a variable HPF to eliminate the deep bass / inaudible stuff. Q strip seems like something you want more than need!! I 've been there too For what its worth I've bought the Broughton HPF (not the HPF+LPF) and shipped to the UK its was under £100. Not got it yet. If you don't need a LPF (doesn't seem you need one) then the Broughton solution isn't as close to Q strip money as you might think, and the HPF is variable. Also worth noting that Josh (Broughton) does make a smaller, cheaper, non-variable HPF too. As for Q strip HPF frequency, I don't know but the paradriver v2 has one too (Rumble Filter), and Tech21 chipped in to this thread about where it kicks in (100hz he thinks). Of course, Q Strip may be different, FWIW:
  18. Just chipping in with visual proof of how easy it is to go to a bike shop and ask for the very tough stuff that'll keep your gear safe in transit. Great thread
  19. ABM 500 / 600 / Neo etc definitely don't have one as standard. The ABM 1000 does though (and maybe the 1200?), they made a decision to protect speakers from peaks of 2kW. Got a great email from Ashdown today about it.
  20. Yeah This was what I used to do with the trusty red slider. My ABM doesn't really do it. I've ended up going for a Broughton. I get the feeling it'll become more and more common on new amp and pedal designs but for now the options are relatively limited. Cheers, Doug
  21. Thanks everyone for the advice. Seems there's a pretty compelling case for an HPF, which is where I was leaning but it's very good of you all to share you're experiences. Thanks, Doug
