1. I think I may need to change my undercrackers. If I was within 100 miles of Oxford that would be sold.
2. Bought Mark's Ashbory, great communication, fast delivery, exactly as described & fantastic packing. As good as it gets.
3. A bass with my name written all over it.
4. Hi I'm offering my Lakland Shoreline Glaub for sale. This is a a very recent acquisition, I bought it having waited & waited for a used USA Glaub to come up for sale. Needless to say, within week of springing for the Shoreline, a damn USA Glaub came up & I snagged it. As a result I probably need to sell the Shoreline so it's here for £100 less than I paid. Lakland Shoreline basses are made in the ESP Japan factory & according to Mr Lakin they were introduced in 2004 to address 2 basic problems with the existing Lakland basses; due to tariffs USA Laklands were outrageously expensive in Japan and Korean instruments were viewed as inferior by our Japanese cousins. The Shoreline range was meant to offer near USA quality for a domestic instrument price. Now I've read some right old bunkum about the Shorelines, this is not the equal of a USA Lakland - no matter what anyone tells you. Its is a step up from a Skyline though & in terms of quality & appointments sits closer to the USA line of basses. So here's some specs; Alder body (Skylines are ash only) Flat sawn maple neck Twin graphite rods Rosewood 'board Maple fret dots 44mm Bone nut Lakland dual bridge (thru body or normal stringing) Hipshot Lic Ultralights Fralin or Seymour J & P pickups (not sure which on this one - leave that with me) VVT controls The serial number would date the bass to 2005. There is some yellowing of the finish evident and the previous owner used stainless rounds on it so there is some fret wear at the business end. I have pictured the worst of this but the bass plays great & I can't see this requiring any attention for a long, long time. The general condition is excellent, a few tiny marks here & there, too small to photograph though. No missing finish & no cracks, even around the neck pocket. Overall build quality is near faultless, as you would expect. The bass is strung with fresh Chromes & sounds like a great old-school P bass should, fat, round & sweet. The J pickup adds the trademark honk you would expect. If you want an eye opener, follow this link where you'll find the only Shoreline Glaub still made is 400,000 yen - which is £2963. Seriously! Now you'd have to be Radio Rental to pay that for one but it gives you an idea of the standard of these bases. http://www.espguitar...atch/index.html Bass comes with the Shoreline gig bag. Happy to ship at your expense & risk, I will pack it very well. Alternatively you are welcome to come to sunny Teesside & give it a whirl. No trades thanks, if this doesn't sell I won't be heartbroken, just a bit skint. 5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steinberger-XL-5-String-Bass-/371672524871?hash=item568968a847:g:CS8AAOSwEjFXeBUX No-one, but no-one, could think this was a proper Steinberger, the fact it's made of wood should be a big clue.
6. When you say lightly aged is it a closet classic finish, relic or a NOS with a bit of real mojo going on? It is sex in timber form regardless.
7. Interesting, my last post on this thread seems to have been removed.
8. Utter, utter crap instruments with no redeeming features other than proving that some people will buy polished sh*t to be a bit different.
9. So there's eBay, aiding & abetting a fraud. At some point the buyer will realise he's been conned & he will never know that eBay were well aware of it & did nothing to stop it.
10. Which begs the question "why didn't he start the auction at £2500?".
11.
These 'Dan Smith' Fenders are excellent (had several...) Fender brought him in in '83 to sort out producton quality issues... these are the result.
Dan Smith joined Fender from Yamaha in 1981, the 1982 models were the what collectors call the "Dan Smith" guitars, made in small numbers & its rumoured Fender were losing $100 on every guitar made in 1982. By '83 Fender CBS were spiralling towards bankruptcy & trying to increase production whilst cutting production costs - hence the introduction of the 1 piece scratch plate on the Jazz, the top loaded tele & the 2 knob, non routed trem Strat. Still a nice Jazz though & well worth the asking price.
12. Station Music in Germany have some Classics with roasted maple necks (no ebony board tho). http://www.station-music.de/bass/musicman.html £900 more than this beauty though!
13. Almost a perfect replica! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Paul-Mccartney-Wal-Style-5-String-bass-Guitar-/291008623953?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43c1773551
14. I love Dingwalls, the fanned frets make for an incredibly even response, they are super comfortable to play & a doodle to adjust to. Great price, great bass.
15. To be honest Andy, I've seen a few things on here lately that are disappointing. Queue jumping, gazumping, sellers not answering PMs, "buyers" pulling out or just going AWOL. It's almost as if the fact we have to pay to sell means people don't need to bother with common decency anymore.
16. That is astonishing, Dave. Out of my price range but, by god, I'd love it.
17. Not familiar with Raygunrelics but that there is an example of someone who has no clue what an aged guitar looks like. Hideous.
18. Denis Fano makes remarkable, innovate & beautifully crafted instruments. This looks fan(o)tastic.
19. That was a steal, £304 for a BB1200? The world's gone mad.
