1. Bought an MXR bass envelope filter from Andrew. Product exactly as described, arrived promptly and in bombproof packaging. Andrew is a very friendly and helpful guy - buy or sell with 100% confidence, folks! Thanks a lot, Andrew - looking forward to seeing 1000 Mexicans live some time soon!
2. The only 4-string bass that I have serious GAS for - and what fabulous upgrades! If you ever decide to sell ...
3. Rats! To avoid further disappointment, please follow forum guidelines and edit the title to indicate that the item has sold. Thanks!
4. I agree with Dannybuoy, for all the reasons he suggests. And I like the serendipity of looking through a random jumble of brands - it broadens the mind, I find. (It also makes you GAS for even more stuff, however, which may not be such a good thing!)
5.
Cheese just doesn`t pay like it used to.
Mind you, he's still as quick witted as ever. Highlight of the show for me was when Jools Holland was interviewing Blur and showed them a clip of them playing 'The Universal' on Later 20 years ago. JH asked them something like "Looking back, what advice would you give to your younger selves now, 20 years on?" Quick as a flash, Alex J replies: "Drink more, shag more, and don't go to bed so early."
6. The Tech21 is amazing, but overkill for my needs - I prefer the simplicity (and the smaller footprint!) of the Corona. But good to hear you made the right choice for you!
7. Another happy Corona user here.
8.
I checked out MTD, and their US built models are WAY out of my price range, but I could perhaps stretch to one of their Kingston models (Which are still quite expensive!). I assume the bass I tried would have been a US one, but will be happy to be proved wrong!
I very much doubt that TC would have a USA MTD as their punters' knockabout bass at the London Bass Show - far too expensive for that! Sadly I wasn't there but would be interested to know the answer as well.
9. MTD Kingstons are brilliant basses - I have an AG5 and it is exactly as you describe: delightful, really low action, straight neck and light as a feather. It also sounds huge, and has an amazingly wide range of tones on tap (Bartolini soapbars, 3-band eq, active/passive switching) - despite its gospel/R&B/funk pedigree it can do anything and everything from old-school thump to super hi-fi and the grindiest metal. And to cap it all the asymmetrical neck is incredibly easy to play - keeps your thumb really nicely on the back of the neck, where it should be, without you even having to think about 'correct' finger positioning. And at a fraction of the price of the USA range, the quality of these basses is astonishing. Laklands are very nice, to be sure, but MTDs are the real deal if you are hankering for a proper modern bass!
10. Ah, perhaps that explains it - makes me even more glad I decided to buy the X2! Having separate loop on and off switches is great, to be sure - essential for a slow-witted klutz like me.
11.
I switched from the Ditto to the DigiTech, because when you clear a stopped loop on the Ditto there's a slight delay before it clears in which it plays a little bit of the start of the loop.
Are you talking about the Ditto or the Ditto X2 here? I have a X2 and have never noticed this problem.
12. Oh, and +1 for Husker Du's version of 'Eight Miles High'.
13. Flying Saucer Attack's cover of Wire's 'Outdoor Miner' for me.
14. Just bought a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes pedal from Dougie. Super-prompt and friendly communications; pedal arrived on date requested and precisely as described, and in bombproof packaging. Great seller, trade with 100% confidence! Cheers, Dougie!
15. You can also load/change/edit toneprints by USB connection to a computer if you don't have a smartphone.
16. Also top notch, and the toneprint thing really works - it's not just a gimmick. And if you just want sth simple that does a nice long reverb, then it could be ideal - just set HOF mini on 'Cathedral' and you're done!
17. TC Electronics Hall of Fame - amazing VFM.
18. The ash-bodied Jazz Vs are generally up to 1kg heavier than the alder-bodied ones. The wood depends on the colour/finish you opt for.
19. PS Any composer who names a piece after a Lithuanian racing cyclist who got banned for doping has got to be worth a listen!
