1. Yeah, the black one is a domestic model. The '55' sticker denotes the price in yen - it's one of the lower priced ones, hence the non-period correct tuners and bridge. The US parts thing is a bit of a myth - the few parts that did come from the US were mostly restricted to early Strats. There's tons of info on the 21frets site - it's ridiculously difficult to navigate (most of the pages don't have menus) so if you want to visit this page is the place to start.
 2. Something like a Zoom B3 might do the trick, with the combination of amp sims and EQ. The downside is that you might have to spend ages trying out all the combinations.
 3.
There is (was?) a Hartke LH500 in the for sales for £180. Bargain and great tone.
That is a great suggestion. Hits the spot for the tones the OP is looking for.
 4. My guitarist has a Musicmaster in Sonic Blue refinished in Olympic White - it looks the dogs nads with a bit of natural wear to the top layer, showing the blue underneath.
 5. Personally I thought Josh Stone very vanilla, Paloma Faith a belter (woud loved to have seen her with the Penetrators), Wilko pure r'n'r, guitar going out and all (though agree about the vocals), Paulo Nutini disappointing and Roni Spector better than expected considering her age. On a bass related note, I thought Norman sold his shoreline gold Jazz last year? More than one of them perhaps.
 6. The Able Bassmaker did exactly what you want, but unfortunately they're no longer in production and are as rare as hen's teeth. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/7603-silly-pedal-question/
 7.
It actually looks good to me and it doesn't sound like it would really affect posts from bands talking about their coming gigs etc.
Facebook changes often sound really innocuous and a huge boon for the user. This announcement sounds quite good all round but the reality was a mahoosive drop in the reach of posts to the news feed (as Molan pointed out) and this doesn't really help if you'd actually like to know about gig announcements from certain bands. And this most definitely is going to affect bands as Facebook considers them commercial users - there's a reason they offer analytics on bands' pages, and it's not just to stoke the band's ego.
 8. Not something you see too often, so I've saved a snap of this German Hoyer for posterity.
 9. I couldn't help but notice this one listed below the auction for the project. 25 1/4" scale, which is shorter than a strat. No mention of the intonation on that one either! Aside from that I kind of like the look, in a steampunk sort of way.
 10.
I'd love a web site and am looking into it but everything we do seems to cost us at the moment.
A way round contacting fans via Facebook's news feed would be to collect email addresses and manage your own mail list. MailChimp is free (yippee!) and has a signup form that can be integrated into Facebook, as well as a bunch of other stuff that's quite useful. Seems a bit strange to think that mail lists seem a bit old school now, as so many people forego email for a lot of stuff in favour of social networking sites, but it's still effective.
 11.
Not forgetting, of course, that we reserve the right to remove adverts that are illegal or fraudulent.
And I'm glad that you do Ian.
 12.
My personal opinion added to this is putting Fender on Chinese made instruments has lowered the brand to budget instrument from what once was Kudos instrument status.
I don't think having Fender on the headstock has been any guarantee of quality well before they started manufacture in other regions.
 13.
Quite a few guys on a certain Facebook page have used them. Expect to change out hardware as a minimum. Some of them, you will not get the same as the purdy pictures! Also, as I understand it, with these COUNTERFEIT goods, you are allowed to buy them as an individual, but NOT TO SELL THEM ON!! There was a Chibson (counterfeit Chinese Gibson) for sale on here a couple of weeks back, and as I understand it, under the law, it should not have been for sale. I didn't point it out to the Mods, I get in enough trouble without trying
You're not allowed to sell them on if you're benefiting commercially but this doesn't apply to a normal private sale. If the seller misrepresents the the item, for instance by failing to point out that a guitar marked 'Gibson' isn't what it says on the headstock then that would fall foul of the law. It's very different for business sellers - even if it's run as a little sideline money earner - but then the 'for sale' forums aren't supposed to be for any using them for that purpose.
 14.
Affinity is the entry level, then Vintage Modified and the Deluxe Actives are in the middle. Top is the Classic Vibe range. The prices reflect this I think.
I thought you'd missed the Standard range, but then I visited the site and they seem to have disappeared. Wonder when that happened?
 15. Runoffgroove's Flipster or Ginger might hit the spot if you're looking for that kind of sound from a pedal. The Flipster is recreation of the preamp from the SB12 (the amp Jamerson used) and the Ginger is an update to closer replicate the sound of the amp. I've got the Flipster and like it very much, but I'll be getting the Ginger at some point as well.
 16.
Another vote here for the soft, damp cloth with a little soap if needed. Using lighter fluid is macho BS and sandpaper on a varnished neck just plain wrong. Happy Christmas
It's not really macho BS though, as in it's neither macho nor BS. Applied to a cloth rather than direct to the neck it evaporates extremely quickly and shifts dirt very effectively.
 17. I use lighter fluid, when I can be bothered. Which isn't often.
 18.
Hmm neither do I, my understanding was that when you share something from a band page it will no longer automatically go to people who have liked your page but that there will be an option to pay to have the information circulated. Hopefully I'm wrong though. There is no charge for having band pages etc, which is good news. I'm not really up on facebook etc. can anyone else clarify?
They haven't automatically gone to people who've liked your page for some years now - perhaps to increase ad revenue but just as likely to cut down on clutter. For people to see more of your posts they need to be interacting with your page a regular basis. Take a look here for more on this. That article seems to to have been written a while ago, as Edgerank has been updated regularly to be far more sophisticated. I'd imagine the new changes are yet another update.
 19. Your band needs to be where your audience is. If that's not Facebook then you need to be concentrating your efforts there, but chances are that most of them do use FB to a greater or lesser extent. You can control most (but not all) of the notifications you get in settings, and you can opt out of tracking here (or use a plugin for your browser like Ghostery). But collecting data on people is what IT companies like Google and Facebook are all about - we're not the customers, we're the product. Deleting your personal account is certainly worthwhile if you have concerns but, as noted above, it's defeating the point to hide your band page.
 20. That's weird - the manual says "Connect a heavy duty speaker cable terminated with a Speakon connector [pin 1+ = “+”, pin 1– = “–”] from the SVT-4 PRO’s Mono Bridge Output jack to the input jack of a speaker cabinet capable of handling the extremely high output power" which is a standard speakon cable. But here it says
Q7) When I use my SVT-4PRO mono-bridged the volume is not what I expected for a 1600 watt amplifier. What's wrong? Check your Speakon plug, it should be wired for +1 (positive) and +2 (negative) on the amp end. The cabinet end should be wired in the standard fashion, which is +1 (positive) and -1 (negative). Be sure to depress the stereo/mono-bridge button
and also
Q14) What kind of speaker cable is required to mono bridge my SVT-IV PRO? The prefered cable is 12 gauge with Speakon to Speakon connectors. Be sure to wire the Speakon on the "amp" end for +1 (positive) and +2 (negative). On the "cabinet" end wire the Speakon for +1 (positive) and -1 (negative). It is a good idea to label each end so there is no confusion on the gig.
I'd assume the manual is wrong, as the FAQ is saying to use the usual wiring for bridged amps. In fact, given the contradiction, I think I'd check this with Ampeg first. But if your cabs have two inputs they'll be wired in parallel so a standard speaker lead should be fine - although with the confusing info Ampeg are supplying I'd like to double check that as well.
 21. If your cabs have two sockets you'll need two cables - one from the bridged output and another to run from the first cab to the second. If you're not running the amp bridged you can run the two cables direct from the amp to each cab. I'm not sure what the score is with the SVT 4 - with the SVT 3 it was a common complaint that it didn't really sound as loud as the wattage would suggest. However 600w in normal mode should be plenty loud enough for anything if you're using two cabs with multiple drivers!
 22. Don't Thomann offer a 3 year warranty? AFAIK the HB supply is identical to the T-Rex Jnr, though doubtless a search on Google will reveal any differences. I'd just get your one replaced and see if the new one fairs better.
 23. Would a simple a/b pedal with a Y-cable to the power amp not do the job?
 24.
I'm sure hes nicked the profile pic too, isnt that Merton's? I am terrible with names, I only know you all by the picture!
That's Merello's. But before that (Crazy)Kiwi used to use it. Now that used to confuse the hell out of me! I'd always assumed it was something off B3ta.
 25.
Short selling.
This. It's quite respectable in some quarters apparently, although they don't operate under quite the same rules.
16.
