1.
You are correct, I spotted the correct one but linked to the wrong bag!
Well spotted anyway! I wonder if any of the UK Sadowsky dealers could order in their version of the bag.
 2.
That bag is the Levys EM8P, from their "economy plus" range.
I think it's the EM8S as it's got the extra pocket on the neck. Weirdly the Sadowsky is almost $15 cheaper.
 3.
Slightly off-topic, but I'll risk this - I was standing on a green patch in Uxbridge in around 1971 when a council-hired jcb went deliberately straight through a row of 16th century cottages and flattened the lot - I could have cried......
Unfortunately that wouldn't surprise me. Kensington Council pulled the same stunt on the old Town Hall until the JCBs revealed the beautifully painted ceilings in the vestibule and passersby physically stopped the demolition. ..
 4.
Seems strange that they would go to the expense of buying an iconic product, then change it, thus making it no longer the iconic product, and incurring yet more expense along the way. Why not just make the bridge they've ended up with and not bother buying the rights to badass? They seem to be putting them on basses from the Chinese made modern player upwards, so it can't be that expensive a bridge either. And still it's not a badass that's on the models that had them on at the start, thus making them different models imo.
I think things are getting a little confused here. Fender haven't bought Badass (the company) nor are they changing bridges bought from Badass. Thet can't get Badass bridges any more, at least in the quantities needed, so they are using their own high mass bridges to their own design. I suppose they could discontinue the models because a rather unremarkable bridge is unavailable, but I would imagine that would make a lot more people unhappy. To my mind there's nothing particularly special about the Badass other than the fact it was the first high mass aftermarket bridge, and the kudos of the brand name. IMHO it's a high mass bridge that is intrinsic to the design rather than specifically a Badass.
 5. It's a bit too early to say - I'm not sure we ever got the Headliner 600 head on this side of the pond.
 6. What makes an expensive bass worth more than a cheaper one? Because it has something that the cheaper one doesn't - people are prepared to pay plenty for that extra 'something'. That may be as simple as the name on the headstock, an indefinable feel or the knowledge that you're getting a reliable bass that is completely fettled to your satisfaction. As with many things in life you may be able to get 90% of the quality for 10% of the price, but people will pay an awful lot for that last 10%.
 7.
This is Rock festivals in Britain and USA though. There are tons of hip hop festivals. And there are plenty in Europe.
Very true, I do wonder how much of music production falls loosely under the umbrella of 'rock' nowadays, and how much might again be loosely described as dance. It wouldn't surprise me at all if far more of it falls into the dance category, and I've got to admit that much of what goes on in that scene is a mystery to me. Rock music is long in the tooth and innovation at premium - perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that rock events struggle more than they used to.
 8. I think festivals are actually a bigger thing now than they were back in 1980, and hence there are loads of them today. And that's Sonisphere's (and other festivals) problem - the competition is huge. In 1980 if you wanted to go to a Rock festival you went to Reading, but now even if you want a specifically Metal festival you have far more choice. And that's just in this country: it is very cheap to travel abroad to see what is available in the rest of Europe now. So more festivals, with very often the same bands playing at plenty of them. Incidentally, I was at Reading in 1980. Although looking at it now it seems like an amazing lineup, it's worth remembering that the likes Of Maiden and Def Leppard were still in the 'up and coming' category and no were near the behemoths they became in later years. In that sense the lineup wasn't so different to the kind of acts you'd see at a festival nowadays.
 9. If you can't get into the jack to inspect the connections just snip off the jack, bin it and fit a new one. I suppose if you're going to take this route you may as well try mole grips on both the shaft and body of the jack - it may well destroy it but if you're prepared to replace it anyway. ..
 10.
I used to use one of these, they're great. http://www.standback.net
I was just about to suggest one of these, with the caveat that it might not work with deeper cabs. I started a thread about them some time ago and somebody mentioned that the centre of gravity on his cab was too far forward for it to rest on the stand properly.
 11. So... who's going to reverse engineer this? Gut shots anyone? I might have a go myself, should be able to knock out a clone for... ooh, say £150. Who's in?
 12. Yeah, Si started a thread on this yesterday but without the link to the demo so thanks for that. I know youtube demos are a pretty ropey way of evaluating gear, but to my ears this is sounding very much like the ODB-3. Which for my purposes isn't a good thing.
 13.
Are you sitting down? http://www.mi-pro.co...s-models/019611 Well, more a reissue than a completely 'new' model but it sounds like our friend Mr Hall is listening to what players have been requesting for years! Imagine that in Mapleglo...
For a few seconds you had me thinking they'd re-issued the 4005.
 14.
http://www.guitarwor...ss-driver-pedal Thoughts? A well needed refresh? Or too little too late from Boss on the Bass Overdrive front? Si
The proof's in the pudding, or rather the sound this thing actually makes. Features-wise it's the same as the ODB-3 with the addition of a direct out, so nothing to set the world alight. Especially as jack out' on a balanced line has always seemed a little pointless to me. Still, to my mind almost anything would be an improvement over their existing bass OD.
 15.
But why is it happening? There is something very wrong.
It's the plastering. It puts a massive amount of water on to the walls, so with the cold weather that's a recipe for condensation.
 16.
What I meant was they will probably survive. Delighted to hear they have! I know, it was a quirky venue with some charm.
No worries Nige. I'm still a bit touchy about the 12 Bar as I loved the old place.
 17.
I watched those towers being built from my office window (just behind Denmark Street) and thought the colours were temporary for a while.
So did I.
It's the UK HQ of Google and just the sort of thing that's good for central London. They could easily have gone for a, much cheaper, location but it feels like a good thing to me to bring a young vibrant business into the centre of the city.
They're moving out!
Where are these places? All I see is smaller venues closing down (played the Buffalo Bar at the end of last year - one of the last gigs that'll ever happen there). Hammersmith Palais - demolished, Marquee - closed, Astoria demolished, Coronet - due for closure. I'm just glad plaes like Corsica are still going.
There are a lot of new places about, although it'll mean a trip to East London! Edit: Or indeed the Holloway Rd, home to the new phase of the 12 Bar Club.
 18.
Edit - beat me to it, Musky!
But you said it so much better Jon.
 19. What it actually is is a 'Strings' bass. Knowing that puts you one step further along the road to knowledge than 90% of 'faker owners, whose basses have usually lost the original truss rod cover. The things with these basses is that many distributors would approach a manufacturer and order the same instrument, with the only difference being the name on the headstock. Sometimes these distributors would be a large company, other times a local shop that could meet the minimum order, but they'd all come badged with their own name on the headstock. So while your bass might have come from the same factory as the Shaftesburys and some CMIs (CMI also used Mat for some of their Rick copies) it's not either of those brand names, because it has it's own! If the factory that made these things was known we could say the Shaftesbury, CMI and Strings basses were a [insert factory name] bass, but sadly we don't. If it were me I'd take the chance on the one pictured simply for the rarity value, but don't make the mistake of thinking all 70's Japanese basses were diamonds. A friend had a Shaftesbury 'faker that had an action much higher than he would have liked, and it couldn't be corrected because of the set neck. I think someone on here bought it off the 'bay and also commented on the action. Incidentally, if the basses you're looking at are advertised online act quickly - Jon Hall has a habit of shutting the sale down very quickly. Contact the seller for a phone number so you can at least get their contact details.
 20. The Rockinbetter has a very different neck to a Rick in that it isn't almost parallel in the way that a Rick is - it's far more Precision like in that respect. As far as genuine Rick profiles go they can vary so much it's difficult to make any generalisations - my 4001S and 4003 have very different profiles, the 4003 being far more chunky. Something with a 70's style P bass profile might be good for you, though they're rounder than I remember the Yams that I've tried have been. Sorry, that's not much use is it. The best idea would be to get yourself down to a shop with a decent amount of stock and try a few out.
 21. Bassasin will doubtless be along before too long, but until he does I can tell you that's not been made by Matsumoku. The Mats had twin truss rods and didn't use those tuners. Off the top of my head I can only remember two Rick copies that used those tuners on UK imported brands, and they were Shaftesbury and Hondo. The Hondos had bolt on necks and didn't have the stripe on the body so it's not a Hondo. It might have come from the same factory as a Shaftesbury - the same instruments could be imported under any number of brand names, of which Shaftesbury was just one amongst many. Unfortunately nobody knows which factory (or even factories) Rose Morris (owner of the Shaftesbury brand) sourced their Rick copies from.
 22.
They'll move somewhere else. It's the brand that matters most for them. All that bollocks about the Bull & Gate closing. No-one gave a f*** about the Bull & Gate until it closed.
They've already moved somewhere else. My band had the pleasure of being the first to play on the new stage last Friday by virtue of sound checking first... but I did love the old venue (as did Barnet, the manager of the 12 Bar - it's not always all about the brand you know Nige).
 23.
What's wrong with being bald? Do tell.
Doubtless Conan will tell you there's nothing at all wrong with being bald. His daughter might well disagree however.
 24. It's been there several months now, but always shut (I go Sunday mornings to pick up some beigals from Brick Lane ). I always wondered why it was called vintage guitars because they only had new ones on display but I hadn't realised they had basement. I'll have to go along later in the day as they clearly open Sundays as there are no shutters on the windows. Either that or they're very trusting. Nice to know there's another decent shop about.
 25. The torn cones sounds like over excursion, which isn't related to the wattage of the cab. Most speakers are doing pretty well if they can handle 50 per cent of the wattage in the lows. It's the combination of power and bass thst causes the damage. Where the volume knob is doesn't tell you how much power the amp is putting out, and it's far from unknown for manufacturers to weight the controls so that they sound louder at low settings. Whether any of your amps do that I wouldn't know, but I've got to say it doesn't sound like you're pushing things too hard.
