No, BIN is still at £399, it won't go until the reserve is met. This is a huge bargain, someone buy it
That's very weird - It was sitting there at 99p (the starting price) with two bids. I could have sworn there wasn't a BIN when I looked. I fact I'm sure there wasn't... I think. I must be losing it or something.
-
Bids have already been placed on it, so the BIN has disappeared. If they really wanted it I don't see how they could reasonably expect that it might sell for less than £399.
I use a Henry uncoiled. Why am I doing wrong oh wise sage? That's not meant to sound sarcastic. I genuinely don't want to fry myself and would like to know the science. Dan
Coils of wire with a current flowing through them create a magnetic field which produces a back EMF. It is effectively a choke which provides resistance to the current, and as a result a build up of heat. Heat adds even more resistance in the circuit which just exacerbates the problem, leading to melt down. Which is why you should always uncoil any mains leads.
You can just about make out the 'Made in Japan' (or possibly crafted in japan) on the body end of the back of the neck. My MIJ '62 resissue is from about 1990 and that is alder, so I'd be surprised if it is basswood with a sunburst finish. Pretty blummin' obvious that the relicing/fcuking-up job was done with tools and it has a much harder finish than thin nitro. My favourite word for today is 'numpty', so consider it used for the line "The tape isn't necessary however I feel it adds more character to the guitar" if nothing else
Yeah you could well be right - I've no idea what they were using for those reissues. I was just going by the apparent lack of grain and slight pinkish tint to the wood.
Does tinfoil actually work for shielding? Ive never heard that.
Yep, works just fine.

Good price on that Thunder 1A there. I still remember turning up to an audition in the early 80's, and the band wouldn't stop going on about the fantastic tone the guy before me was getting out of his Thunder. I was quite put out at the time because they never said a word about my Precision which cost 2 or 3 times as much. Plus it was made by Matsumoku, who weren't in the habit of turning out duff basses. Unlike certain other manufacturers at the time.
-
If you're set on an SX you might want to look at the Jim Deacon brand. The consensus is that the 20 fret versions are the same basses as those branded SX. You don't seem to get the same range of colours though. Aside from that, the Vintage modified and classic vibes are worth keeping an eye out for.
Shield it completly with copper sheilding its a long process, but it should work.
I don't think shielding will work in this case - the problem being that the pickup acts as an aerial for the loop.
-
Turning off the loop when the band are playing would probably be the easiest option. Otherwise noiseless pickups should sort it out. Is there any possibility of re-routing the loop so the band are outside it, or adding a section of loop around the band that is 180 degrees out of phase?
yeh i have considered that but they all seem to be just as expensive as my current bass, i really like zons but they are like 2 grand! andy
The Energy and Groove are both discontinued, but both come up fairly regularly within your price range.
hi guys im looking for a good secong bass that i can get for around 350-500 quid. im looking to backup my modulus fb4, so something that can come close to that would be wicked( but thats a long shot) ive played a few fenders and they were really nice but they were all like a grand! ive looked into fernandes gravity bass trying to find a 4er secondhand, im unsure bout the squiers as ive played a few and been unimpressed, olp mm copies were a big let down as i dn't want to have to mod the bass to much to make it a good sounding bass. the most ill do straight away is probs get a badass 2 bridge put on it, and some dunlop Trujillo sig strings on it. any suggestions? ideally it be nice if it was active. andy
If you like the graphite neck have you considered a Status Energy? Or even a Groove, which was Status' take on Stingray(though that one come with a wood neck).
The XO Microsynth WILL work on a daisy chain, but you have to use a Gigrig Virtual Battery (about £25-30), attach it to a connector on the daisy chain then join the gigrig and the microsynth. The gigrig works as an isolated output and therefore takes away the 'daisy chain' element. I did this using a Johnnyshredfreak power supply and got no hum whatsoever. The Gigrig people are nice guys too so support them!
Never knew about those. Do they work with multiple pedals or do you need one for each pedal? Great condition Big Muff in your avatar btw - the paint flakes like nobody's business on those things. Is it yours?

Looking very good so far.
-
Yeah, this is true about a lot of the newer smaller sized EHX pedals.
Korean maker Dillion used to produce a bass with a similar shape body and three Tri-Sonic pickups. There's someone on TB with one, and there was another for sale on eBay a couple of weeks back that went for just a little bit more than I was prepared to pay...
Sounds like you've just passed that period of bliss between an auction ending and wishing you'd bid just that little bit more.
Another great weekend! The Agincourt is now firmly set in our 'circuit'.... and the Victoria Line closures did nowt to affect our attendance at The Standard! Back o' the net! Great to see MacDaddy at The Standard.... thanks for coming mate!
The line closures did affect your attendance at least a little... four of my mates called off because of it. I had to shoot off during the encores to make my connection or I would have said hi after the gig. Very impressed with the fire breathing btw.
mine's the pedal version...which although i'm very happy with, the bias control would be nice
Yeah. I've got the Tube Driver in pedal form and that's really nice, but has too much distortion on tap for my purposes - I had to keep it at the lower drive settings. The Blue tube is much more flexible with a better bottom end. Just a shame my rack model doesn't get as much use as it should because I can't be bothered to lug it around to gigs. It really is my own personal overdrive nirvana.
I saw a 'Toka' or 'Toca' (not sure what it was, definately wasn't tokai) copy of a rikenbaker 4001. It felt OK, but not what you get for £399. It was in fireglo, my least favourite colour , but it sounded horrid. The bass was very difficult to play with finger and with slap. The Jayro Rickenfaker mentioned above sounds like a bargain to me!
That's another one I've never heard of. Where did you see it?
-
Lovely stuff. Lots of marvellous creamy distortion. Did you get the rack or pedal version? Much as I dislike racks mounted effects, the Blue Tube rack does have a rather fantastic bias control which lets you change the actual character of the distortion. If only they'd bunged it on the pedal version as well
... ii) is Fender a bit hit/miss generally, or only non-USA models?
The Hoppus and Dirnt are both Mexican models aren't they? From what I've read on these forums (I've never played one myself) the MIMs are pretty variable, so If they're what you're looking at you really need to play the one you're going to buy. As for variable build quality, when it comes to Fenders it's not so much the name on the headstock as when and where it was built. Plenty of reports on the Mexican ones and the US ones have had their moments over the years (notably the late 70s/early 80s). Japanese models seem pretty consistent since they started though.
