1983 Aria Pro II Black n Gold Fretless - what value, do you think?
Musky replied to Criptonite's topic in Bass Guitars
Wow. You don't see too many of the Black and Golds about, and I've never seen a fretless version. Value-wise I wouldn't know where to start. Cliff Burton played one of these, though of course his was fretted, so that might cause a bit of interest. These were essentially the same as the SB Elite I, so that might give you an idea of the price, but being a fretless might reduce interest somewhat. It really depends how many collectors are about (and there are collectors of Aria SB's). £500 give or take a bit? -
What is it with trying to find a bass that works for me ?
Thanks for that caruso. I am interested in music and have been since I started gigging in 1967.
Interested in music? "As long as there's the sex and drugs I can do without the rock and roll." -
Yeah I just missed a PB62 I fancied .. Seppos?
Yeah I was wondering that too, so I had a google. It's a shortened version of Septic. Edit: there's no way I would have guessed that stingrayfan!

Make sure you try out the Boss ODB-3 before you buy. Opinions about them fall into the 'love 'em or hate 'em' category. I fall into the latter.
an old mate of mines tnt broke...
Without pics it didn't happen. Bankai - I was about to suggest a BDI 21 for your DI needs. Cheap and cheerful and sound great. Good for overdriven type distortion as well.

If you're happy to buy used gear you should consider an SVT 3. Usually go well within your budget and are awesome sounding amps.

It's got to be better than trying vaseline and hoover dust - doesn't work and makes a helluva mess.

I have the opposite problem. I like my strings to sound deader than a very dead thing. I'd use flatwounds, but I don't really get along with the feel of them. Anyone know how to kill off a set of new roundwounds?
-
That sounds like the signal might be bleeding off somewhere, perhaps a stray wire or the leads to the capacitor touching another component. When you take off the scratchplate it's worth inserting a jack plug to see if anything is being shifted about and making a connection it shouldn't be.

Cheers for the post Jon. I must be a sad act because I didn't find that dull at all. If it is Nov 1980 it could fit in with the time span the Cardinals were supposedly produced over, as they were supposed to be available from '81. I've got a bunch of mags from that time, and if I can be arsed to dig them out I might see if I can spot any reports of their release. Christ, I'm sadder than even I had imagined. Purpolaris - that bass is actually a CSB300. I was looking at the neck plate again and noticed the paint isn't original. As I said, there's not a lot of difference between the 300 and 380 - just a better finish in different colours, a couple of less pieces of wood making up the body and gotoh style tuners. That one has the squarer heads used on the 300. They feel slightly less positive in use but actually function just as well as the gotoh types in practice,
Hello folks. I've been lurking for a few weeks, as yet another person hoping to acquire a decent Rick copy at some point. Don't think this little fella has been posted yet. Ending in a couple of days. I live too far away to even have a look at it. Love mapleglo, though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vintage-ibanez-bass-...%3A1%7C294%3A50
Welcome to the forum. That on came up on a previous auction a month ago, at an eye watering £1000 starting price. He's got a bit more realistic now, but £500 is still a lot to open bidding for an Ibby in that kind of condition. I still reckon he's living on another planet, but at least he's in the right solar system this time round.
Spartacus is probably right about the numbering - there was an odd period of Matsumoku using several different serial formats & this type appears to be the same as used by Fujigen, & therefore Ibanez. This is possibly due to the fact that Grecos were being built by Mat & Fujigen simultaneously, & both factories were producing some of the same models, so they kept the serial numbers consistent. Looks like some of the same plates ended up on other brands too. Simple, innit? I couldn't really guess at value but I'd have that for £70, no sweat! Jon.
Any idea when the Grecos were being built by both FujiGen and Mat, Jon? Come to that, do you have any idea when Mat were using their different neck plate (Accurate Bolt On System, Adjustable Steel Neck and the ones saying just Made in Japan)?
The 1st 2 digits on Matsumoku guitars of that time show the year so its probably 1980. If the datings anything like Ibanez then "K" indicates November.
The first one or two digits on Matsumoku made guitars usually indicate the year - my basses begin 20XXXX and 30XXXX, so would indicate 82 and 83 respectively. Some however came out with letters as part of the serial and nobody seems too sure what these stand for.

I've got two of these and you're right, they are superb. Yours is a CSB 380, which is pretty much identical to the CSB 300. They were made between 81 and 85. Value-wise you're looking at £70-£130, depending on condition and which way the wind happens to be blowing at the time - they're not exactly sort after, which does make them a bargain when they do show up. Edited to make some sense!

I played there last year, a few weeks after Clarky by the sound of things. I thought the backline was fairly decent - Marshall/Trace. There was a Marshall stack there as well, though that was playing up apparently. I thought the venue had supplied the gear, but maybe it was the promoter. Not played at 93 Feet East but it must have about 600 capacity and has a nice decent sized stage. From a punters point of view it's a quality place.

A mate bought a Precision a few years back, and after a week the thing is farting away. So rather irate, he returns to the shop. "You've sold me a duff bass mate." "Er, have you changed the battery?" "What battery...?"
-
I can't help you with the value Wayne, but that's a Tech Soundsystems cab rather than Tech 21. I believe they're now called Tec Amp.
-
It's a line out (send) from the pre-amp, and line in (return) to the power amp. You can use it for rack effects or using different pre and power amps. Most people never touch them on combos like that vox. Edit: Beaten to it. And with a better explanation.
does anybody know anywhere other than Ebay (ive seen so many dodgy listings on Ebay) where I can buy a Rick copy ? , theres a Rick copy by Indie near me but its going for £600 which is a little higher than I am willing to pay
You could try this. It's also available in fireglo, and there's a thread that mentions them here (hooky6stringbass bass bought one). Unfortunately it seems the price has jumped up £40 in the past few weeks since I last looked. HWAudio are doing them for the same price.
Hello guys, thinking about this one as live 5 miles from it. Good/bad? Expert advice needed for as muppet.
Well Hondos are pretty much considered the bottom end of the Rickenfaker market - plywood, Korean made and generally not up to the quality of the Japanese stuff in the 70's. That said, it's relatively tidy and if it doesn't go too much beyond the starting price could be worth a punt. The bolt on neck can be a blessing in disguise, as some through neck Rickenfakers can suffer from a high action that can only be solved by some major bodging. If you're thinking about going for it, it's very much worth your while contacting the guy so that you've got a record of his email. Although the listing doesn't contain the 'R' word, if John Hall spots it he'll pull the auction. That way, if it does disappear, you might be able to tempt the guy with a deal outside of ebay. Edit: Just noticed that he's included his email in the listing, so he might angling for an deal off ebay anyway.
