1. Welcome Kay. I would advise against getting a starter pack as they tend to compromise to reach a price-point. 2nd hand is always a better bet as you get more for your money and they tend to hold their resale value more for when you do upgrade. They are also more playable and therefore more enjoyable. Maybe check your local guitar shop or the classifieds here for a bass & combo to get you started... We're a nice bunch really...!
 2.
I just went googling for the Banksy version of Nighthawks only to find that this was it Oh dear .........
3.
Over the last few years I've gone from an active bass with 3-band EQ with switchable mids into a rack preamp with 'aural enhancer' and 4-band EQ with dual semi-parametric mids, to a passive bass into a rack preamp with no EQ other than a handful of presets. It was a slightly scary couple of leaps but I love where I've landed! Join me!
Interesting. I've gone from passive basses and twiddling endlessly and uselessly with the EQ to active bass & treble and switch the amp EQ off and just use the MicroBass for dirt and room EQ. I am a much happier man for it. If I had a U5 and a gert chunky bifton QSC though...
Huummmmmmmm Do'nuts
On that theme...
 4.
greater maximum output - stupidly loud
 5.
Wasn't it the first 5 Metallica albums?! Alex
I'm sure you're right, but I can't comment on the Newstead era, not my cup of English Breakfast. And far be it from me to comment on things I no nothing about.
 6.
You can't ever escape the collective after you've been assimilated...
Just ask Beedster & Homer!
 7. Hetfield - bassist. Hammet played no rhythm guitar on the first 3 Metallica albums, all Hetfield layered up.
 8.
...he used his orange Spector on 90% of the stuff he's recorded.
And now I understand why.
 9.

Could you move your left hand please, I need to park the Focus.
 10. Dan, I hope that wheelie wasn't on a public road young man.
 11.
Or is it a problem up my end?
Oo-er! Nope, me too.
 12.
Haha! Lovely to see you and a pleasure to do business with you John! Aye, I was sad to see said Spector leave the nest, but she is being replaced by another within days.... Hope you found your way home ok and didn't let Google Maps take you to the wrong home address
Piece of piss getting home mate, I just followed the signs like I used to do before some twat invented computer mapping. And 48 google minutes is longer than 54 google minutes by the way.
 13. EDIT: f*** me, there's loads of 'em. I'm getting a camo for me KSD I reckon.
 14.
I just got the Marvel straplocks - they are superb! Really nice and solid and the connection between the bass and the strap is really 'positive', and they allow much smoother circular motion than the schaller design, which could get a bit squeaky! Cheers ped
Ped, do these little fellas fit on the Schaller do-dahs you screw onto the bass itself? Cheers, John.
 15. I have just had to undertake the arduous task of relieving our Gary of a Spector Euro 4 LX [yes, believe it!] that was the wrong colour. He even guided me to his address over the phone when I went to the wrong road of the same name and risked life and limb running across a main road [don't try this at home, kids] to save me parking charges. A thouroughly nice chap and a pleasure to deal with, but mind those stairs on the way out! Note to self - don't trust Google Maps and leave longer for talking sh*te & drinking tea next time. Cheers mate!

 17. ABC, 123, it's as easy as KSD. Nice collection.

 19.
Tung oil gets good words on the warwick.de forum. I'm gonna try it on mine shortly.
And Sir's thoughts?
 20.
It's NOT the stuff that comes in a yellow plastic lemon that you squirt on your fish....
Oh no, what have I done!
 21. Hanson Brothers - 'It's A Living'. Storming live CD including all the faves. Except 'Stay Home' which they never play.
 22. I remember lusting after one of these, but being put off by the graphic on the body. Then I bought an Aria Pro II.
 23.
Better than either, I used to have Joey DeMaio's pick. I've never been the same since I lost it. Maybe it was the true Pick of Destiny.
No no no, everybody knows that Scott Ian's pick he gave me at the 100 Club in 1987 was the one. It was hand crafted on the thighs of Betelgeusian virgins from a single Higgs boson. I wonder which of the many sofas I have lounged upon has it now.
 24.
That'll explain why my gigs are empty
My gigs are empty 'cos we're sh*t. Of course, everybody knows that throwing a bunch of money at basses and backline will make me oh so much better.
