I always wanted a BassChat logo'd polo shirt with 'STAFF' on the back, like the kinda thing you see at venues.
Following the London Bass Guitar show earlier, wearing my Bsschat polo and now donning my free lanyard with 'Jellyfish' written on it. I then travelled to Westfield (to let the girlfriend do some shopping as payment for putting up with me playing all kins of basses!) We then went to Nandos for lunch and the lady behind the till took one look at me and asked 'Are you working in Westfield today?' and apparently if you work there you get a pretty nice discount! Anyway, back on topic... I don't mind wearing tshirts related o bass, but none of those corny tag lines. Something discreet and tasteful, much like all of the tshirts on the Basschat shop.

I feel like the scratch plate is a bit too 'stylish' for a bass that is designed after something that's rather old.

My first custom build by Alpher Instruments = Complete!
Jellyfish replied to Jellyfish's topic in Build Diaries
Cheers man, we're both equally excited about how the final product is going to look. They pick out some absolutely stunning pieces of wood that I've never seen anything like before! Not much excitement to add yet, but I've kindly been sent (taunted with) a picture of the 2-band John East preamp. -
Depends on the neck size of the Squier. The necks on G&Ls are chunky, but if he can get on with that, an L2500 tribute easily trumps a Musicman in terms of versatility. Although the Musicman arguably sounds great in almost all genres of music so it really comes down to what he wants.

Lovely top you've got there. What's the finish going to be?

My vote would be for Dingwall and their fanned fret goodness.

Cheers Stephen, you really need to update your avatar to show everyone how good the final product is. -
Why do you want to know what gear your heroes use?

I'm just a gear geek when it comes to a lot of gear, so it only makes sense that I want to find out what my idols use! -

Thanks, and hopefully Chris won't mind me linking the top here too.. -

The Musicman sweet spot methinks! The Bongo is one of my absolute favourite sounding basses so I really said 'Can you make me something that sounds similar?' and of course they said Yes. -
Hi guys. I've recently decided on a lovely custom spec 5-string bass to be built by the guys at Alpher Instruments. They've only recently started building, but their work is absolutely stunning. I'd urge you to go and visit their Basschat topic in the affiliates section here. The specifications are fairly basic, with a couple of oddments:

Body: 1-piece Claro Walnut with Tru Oil finish
Top wood: Spalted/Spider Burl Maple
Mid Veneer: Wenge
Neck: 1-pieces Wenge, quartersawn
Fingerboard: Madagascan Rosewood
Tuners: Hipshot Lightweight
Bridge: Hipshot Single String bridges with 15.3mm string spacing
Nut: 1.75" graphtech
Pickups: 2 large-pole piece Humbuckers
Preamp: 2-band John East Preamp
Most of this stuff was only decided after having a good talk with Chris at Alpher Instruments as he continued to bombard me with pictures of beautiful woods and presented me with options I didn't think possible. Originally, I wanted a lightweight 5-string bass with tight string spacing. After a quick discussion regarding available bridges, it was decided that single string Hipshot's would give me a crazily tight string spacing of 15.3mm! The rest of it is fairly regular, apart from the lovely and exotic looking woods they have available. A nice picture of the Claro Walnut that will be used as the body wood: And the neck wood that I fell for after being shown it! Updates will hopefully be coming thick and fast over the coming weeks as they get to work on my dream bass.

The typical 'Fenderites' that use this forum probably won't approve... As for me... Nice! They all seem like extremely high quality 3D prints, which is impressive and justifies the price in my eyes. I'm also assuming that all design flaws that would normally come with having a non-standard body have been addressed. I would love to hear a sound demo too.

Can't go wrong with OBBM, I use them myself. But I'm keen on the Planet Waves American series. Quality cables and lifetime warranty, what more could you want?
-
Easy.

Well I didn't realise how cheap they were, seems like a mad price for something so good.

People who randomly ask about your Basses!! (annoyed)
Jellyfish replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
Never been asked, but you have far more interesting gear than me. -
What made you choose Esh? Curious. :-)

Animals as Leaders are the only metal band I've heard that have really gotten away with not needing a bassist. Saying bass doesn't go with metal is like saying guitars don't go with bass. It's a bit silly really.

Unfortunately, because you bought from the shop in person, the doesn't have to accept the return as it is a non-faulty item. You're right, from a customer service perspective it doesn't seem right, but it's allowed. The best thing to do would have been to ask them what their policy or terms and conditions were as they have to stick to them. If their terms and conditions are no refunds on non-faulty items then so be it. But I can see that it was easy to get caught out, really unfortunate. The only thing you can really do is be as nice as possible (as I'm sure you have been already) and give them a ring or perhaps visit them and hope that they offer to take it back as a good will gesture.

I've been enjoying the forums for a while now and I don't feel like much has changed, but then I guess I haven't really been here long compared to some other members. I have to be honest, I never donated anything from the few sales that I've made but am much happier now that there is a fee that I have to pay because it feels warranted. I've also frequented many an Internet forum and have seen appalling moderation in terms of either favouritism or power trips, but the quality of the moderator team on here is top notch. The issues that have arisen from specific topics in 'Off Topic' have resulted in the responsible members just making fools of themselves which is quite funny to me.
Guitar Guitar in Epsom had a few, I'd give them a call to check http://www.guitargui...=12040516440349
Unfortunately for the OP, that's the 4500, not the 4005! If you can get somewhere to try out any other Prestige, there isn't going to be a huge difference. Especially if you're just wanting one for the looks. And even if you can only try a Premium one out, I'd urge you to! The Prestige is going to be just that bit better.
That's a good point to, but fairly obvious, wouldn't you think?
To many people, yes. But then there's many sides to the argument, supported by the fact that most professionals use expensive instruments!

I thought this was going to be a thread about how 'better' gear really doesn't make you any better. But you have a point as well...

Function band gigs, time to upgrade the rig?
Jellyfish replied to Jellyfish's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for all the advice. I won't know the ins and outs until next month but even if going D.I. into the PA is possible, I've posted a wanted ad' for another Focus 112 cab and hopefully that should see me right.
