1. I've been looking at all available options recently as to what I can hook up to my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB and of course there are a lot of monitors out there. But i've also been looking at spending around £100 on a decent pair of professional headphones and am wondering if that's really an acceptable alternative to monitors. I'm hoping someone has experience of trying out both and can guide me!

5. I can hear 18k at an audible volume (without smacking up the volume).
6.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy playing Opeth songs on bass. Saying that, some of the guitar work on their stuff is really beautiful. Bleak/Drapery Falls and the Lines in my hand are the ones I enjoy playing most on bass though. What about you?
I gotta agree man, some of their guitar work is beautiful. Especially their acoustic guitar parts. As far as playing Opeth, I love the bass parts in Bleak and The Devil's Orchard. I don't know if it's a trend, but a lot of newer albums from various metal bands (that I listen to) have really given the bass a boost. It's great.
7. Funny. It was bands like Opeth that made me want to pick up the bass.
8. I've been looking for a new audio interface, and specifically looking at the Focusrite Saffire USB 6. However, I noticed that this could also be used as an interface. Is that right? And if so, would you guys recommend it instead of the Focusrite?
9. Ohhh.. So that's why the sockets on the front look so weird, huh? Thank you for the site as well, looks awesome and exactly what I needed.
10. I'm completely new to recording and in my attempts to start recording, i've had my eye on the Focusrite Saffire USB 6. It looks like a tidy piece of kit but I have a few queries that i'm hoping someone will be able to answer! Firstly, the only inputs on the thing are XLR's. Previously, i've just had to use a jack to jack between my bass and an interface so I was wondering if the signal somehow needs converting. And lastly (or secondly ) my Ashdown Mag 300 Evo ll has a DI socket on the front. I am new to the whole DI thing (I know they are used, but no idea what for) so I was wondering if an XLR from that into the interface would work. And as a bonus, what is a DI? And are there any good online resources for recording noobs?
11. Bought some Shuker Straplocks and they came fast and well packaged.
12. Thanks for all the nice comments. Was a bit worried at first as i'd ordered it (and essentially paid for it) without having laid a finger on a G&L before. But am well happy.
13. Long story short (although I know you're all here for the pictures) I had a 5 string Ibanez that went away for replacement at the start of August 2011. A claim was put through because damage had been done by the courier which took longer than expected (5 months longer...) and so after struggles on their end (the shop I got it from) I finally was given a refund and a choice of a new bass. I opted for the G&L because it was recommended to me and i'm certainly not disappointed. It cost me £580 brand new, which I think is a good price, and after a re-string with something a little more 'smooth' i'll be as happy as Larry! (Whoever that is) So.. Without further adieu, I present to you the result of 6 months waiting time. It's a brand new G&L L2500 bass! 14. Well, there is a Wanted forum further down. Or try searching for it in the for sale section.
15.
Nowhere near £50 - this is double that and that's before you add the optional backrest. http://www.thomann.d...hilfe_14045.htm On the other hand, it's bloody comfortable, has a foot rest too, is completely adjustable, and you can even play double bass while sitting on it. If that's your fancy. I'm very happy with mine.
Cheers for the suggestion. In fact, I was having a look at this http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_stehhilfe.htm and it looked great really. My only concern is that i'm not sure if my bass would sit comfortable on my knees as I have never played on a stool before (that was high enough that my feet weren't on the ground) and also I do have rather short legs. However, a stool with an adjustable foot rest looks great so again, thank you for the suggestion. How long have you played bass on it before getting uncomfortable?
16. I was in a similar situation, as i'm sure many others on here might have been at some point. I would 100% recommend that you look for a teacher who actually plays the bass as his main instrument. My old teacher was a guitar player, and not a bad one at that. But I wasn't getting what I wanted from the lessons. In fact, I wasn't even taught correct technique properly and my playing wasn't much better for having had those lessons. Although you seem to be experienced with bass (from looking at your gear list ), there's nothing that really compares to having another bass player to bounce ideas off and ask questions, or at least that was the case for me. I found a bass teacher here off Basschat and couldn't be happier.
17. I guess the general opinion is that anything worth sitting in for that long needs to cost a bit more 'ey? Cheers for all the input although i'm still a bit skeptical about the whole thing. There are some pretty cheap armless office chairs for the sub £50 mark and would probably suffice. Also, my only concern about a stool is that it's not something i'd be used to playing on, however Thomann do what appears to be a great one for around £80. Maybe i'll have to see if anyone owns one.
18. There was a topic a while back made for the purpose of finding a decent chair to sit down and play bass in. There were a few suggestions but most were over £100 and I can't see myself stretching to that sort of money just for a chair. So does anyone have any good budget suggestions for something comfortable but that can also be sat in for 8+ hours if needed? Cheers.
19. I liked that Parker Maxx Bass until my eyes reached the headstock. But at 6lb's i'd be more worried about it floating away!
20. See, this is why I need to learn music theory! So I can understand jokes!
21. I have a feeling that this is supposed to be in the Affiliates Forum.
