1. Every time I browse through this forum, I see this listing and read it as 'Sacha Baron Cohen Bass'.
2. If the studio is part of an industrial unit are there any other businesses that share the building that might have CCTV?
3. Killswitch Engage's version of Holy Diver:
4. Are there any fretless stealth Bongos?
5. "I saw your band earlier. Very..... avante garde." I don't think that Barrow in Furness is ready for post-rock.
6.
I can just imagine a didgeridoo set... "Thank you very much, that was an original tune called 'Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom'. Ok, i'd like to slow it down a bit now, here's one you might recognise, it's called 'Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom'... Two three four..."
I've seen a digeridoo cover of 'Sex on Fire'. It went something like: Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom WOOOOAAAOOOH Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom MY SEX IS ON FIRE Ooma-ooma-oomoomooma-oom
7.
It is true that they are not fashionable nowadays, at least you would get that impression watching tv: old, beat up four string is the required accessory this minute
+1 You don't need a 5 string to be in Mumford & Son.
8. Very nice. If I didn't already have one I would be very interested. I wish that my user kit hadn't gone missing though...
9. I've found Hermes to be awful. I will never use them.
10. "I could care less" really winds me up. The other one that gets me is the constant use of the word 'literally', when people almost always mean 'metaphorically'.
11. What sort of stuff are you already into? Check out the lineups at 2000 Trees and ArcTanGent - should be all British bands. Not all are metal, but some stuff might fit the bill.
12. If only his bloody signature wasn't scrawled all over the headstock! Why can't they put them on the back? I love the way this bass looks but I couldn't play it out in case people thought I liked U2. EDIT: And if I was going to have an Adam Clayton sig model, it would this one...
13. My advice would be to use the studio time to make sure that the drum tracks are good. Drums will be the most difficult element of the band to get a good recording of at home, so use the pro equipment to get them perfect. If they come away from the weekend with usable drum tracks and have to dub everything else on afterwards, it's not the end of the world.
14.
String isn't that easy to obtain nowadays so perhaps blue nylon rope is psychedelic enough?
I've got some that you can borrow if you were thinking of replying to the advert. I'd need it back before conker season though.
15. Has anyone else noticed the seemingly disproportionate number of female bassists and guitarists on YouTube? It seems to have happened in the last couple of years, and every time I search for a bass or guitar cover, there seems to be a 50/50 split of male and female players. Now obviously the world population is 50/50 male/female, but unless all of the female bassists are hiding on a secret island somewhere I'm not sure that it is a proportional representation. I'm presuming that a disproportionate number of female musicians are appearing higher up the YouTube rankings because of all of the blokes who are watching them - I know that personally I find female musicians more attractive than male ones, even if they aren't flaunting their assets.
16.
For some bands image is important. Some musicians think it's ok to look like a sack of sh*t with a string tied around the middle. Clearly the two are not compatible.
Except when the band's image is a sack of sh*t with string tied around the middle...
17. I think it's pretty awful. That riff was a great jam riff, but it's now ruined forever. Whenever I listen to a live track with that jam in, all I'm going to hear is that song. And every time I hear the song, I'm going to wish it was the jam. The swearing seems unnecessary - they always used to manage without it, and now this song is packed full. The drill sergeant bits are cheesy and cheap sounding, the lyrics are rubbish, and the song is too repetitive for it's length. Also, I wish they would stop with the political stuff. Give me some space-opera love songs.
18.
The track sounds a little more "anthem-y" than "post-rock" at the end for me, but overall he (and the band) explore a lot of ideas and package it in a very neatly constructed song.
It's the first single, and hence probably the most radio-friendly track on the album. There's some more progressive stuff in store!
Are you doing anything with any other projects in Leeds? I'll be up that way with my band Waking Aida for StrangeForms Festival 2015.
Currently bandless. I've had too much going on in real life to commit myself to anything else recently. I am planning on moving out of Leeds relatively soon as well, so don't really want to be getting into something that I won't be able to carry on with.
19. My old band has been signed and the album we recorded together is being released later this year. We wrote and recorded the album, but I left the band for personal reasons after the recording. We are still on good terms and they have found someone to fill my (slightly sweaty) size tens, and are forging ahead with the record deal. Please have a listen to the first single, and follow Charlie on Facebook etc if you like it. For fans of Oceansize, Jeff Buckley, post-rock, etc http://www.superball...598&IdCompany=4
20.
not wanting to highjack this thread but does anyone buy CD's anymore I have loads that I want to sell but not sure if the market is there anymore. I guess Ebay is the way to test.
I buy CDs. I do own 3 vinyls, but I don't have a player for them.
21. Sweepy hair with shaved sides, awful shirt buttoned up to the top, large but groomed facial hair, juxaposition of tattoos with relatively smart attire.
