1. I can't comment on Grade 8, but I had a Grade 6 book a few years back and I would say that most of the tunes were more difficult than any RATM songs (speaking as someone who has at some point learnt every RATM song that is available). They also had sections of improvisation, and I believe that you had to know quite a bit of theory. Like I said, this was a few years ago and it's possible that things have changed. I would advise going into a music shop and finding one of the books and having a look to see whether you think you are up to it.
2. Bump. Great first 5 string without too much financial commitment.
3. I need to check my lottery numbers... EDIT: No good. I've got a good feeling for Friday though!
4. I believe that JMJ uses jazz basses with NIN.
5. I came across Hermes for the first time this week. I ordered some floor mats for the car from Amazon. I went away over the weekend, and obviously Hermes tried to deliver them while I was away. I had a little card thing to say that they had attempted delivery but no indication of what was happening now - it didn't say whether they were attempting redelivery or whether I could collect from a depot or anything. So I called them to find out and they said that because I was the buyer they couldn't give me any information. I had to back through Amazon so that they could ring Hermes and find out where the mats were. It was the most frustrating experience I have had with a delivery company. I have never come across one before that won't talk to the people it is delivering to. It seems like a bizarre system.
6. £90 I've got a nice little 1x12 combo amp for sale. It is a Behringer, which obviously comes with the usual stigma, but this has been reliable, and sounds pretty good. It's got an aluminium speaker cone and comes in a tilt-back format, which is great for monitoring on stage. It has two footswitchable channels which share the 4-band EQ but have seperate volume controls, and the second channel has a sort of one-knob-tone control. I used to use this with a large big band and it used to be able to keep up pretty well, even on the louder tunes. I had it set up so that the second channel was louder and more trebly so that I could use it for solos. I believe that the original footswitch is still in existence, although I'm pretty sure that it is at my parents house so I will have to dig it out. I should be there next week at some point so I will have a look. This is too heavy and low value to be worth a courier, so collection from Leeds would be ideal, or I could deliver within a reasonable distance. Here is the page on the Behringer website: http://www.behringer...cts/BX1200.aspx And it looks just like this:

8. £80 I have something new coming in next week so I need to make space. I have a Vintage (JHS) brand 5 string bass. No idea what the official model number is but I own another bass the same shape which is a V940FL which is a 4 string fretless so maybe this is a V950? It is black, has an active preamp, blue strings and a PJ pickup configuration. I have owned it for approx 10 years and it wasn't new when I bought it, so I don't really have an idea of the age of it, but it plays well enough and doesn't sound horrible. Could be a good starter bass or a nice cheap squeeze for someone to try out a 5er for the first time. Make me an offer I can't refuse. Would prefer pickup from Leeds or I can deliver within a reasonable distance.
9. I bought a bass from BassVentura before Christmas. No problems, and he seemed like a lovely chap as well!
10. Ilian bought a Peavey Preamp from me. Great communications, quick payment. A dream transaction!
11. If this was a 5er I would have bitten your arm off... Beautiful bass.
12. Boss OC-2. Solo the -1ve and play everything up an octave on the bass and you've got instant G-Funk. Equal blends of -1ve and clean through a fuzz and a filter and you've got instant P-Funk.
