1. Yeah, that was me! Glad you've enjoyed them.
2. I've posted this on TalkBass, but thought that I'd throw it in here for those who don't frequent both forums. I began a project a little while ago to transcribe every Muse bass part that I could get my hands on. There were two reasons behind this. 1) I personally much prefer real music to tabs. 2) 99% of the tabs on the internet are incorrect and/or incomplete and/or not detailed enough. With this, I am aiming to be as accurate and complete as I can be. So far I have completed two albums. Here are links to all of the pdfs that I have available at the moment. Let me know if you find them useful, or if you spot any mistakes. 3. My band, Charlie Barnes and the Geekks are headlining (AFAIK) at Saki Bar in Manchester on Wednesday night, with Black Market Serotonin, Unconcious Jungle, Johnny Gwynn & Easy Tyger, and Mr Sportsman. Starts at 8pm, £4 on the door or £3 with a flyer. Free copy of Unconcious Jungle's EP on entry (until they run out...). Apparently drinks are pretty cheap as well. Should be a good night, so pop down and say hi!
4. My band have just released an album called Geekk. There's a link to our Myspace in my sig, where you can hear some of the tracks, and there are links from there to purchase the album if you are so inclined. I think it's excellent, and all of the reviews and comments have been very positive so far! Hope some of you enjoy it as well.
5.
Velcro? It's just a rip-off! BB That joke was brought to you by the publishers if this weeks Radio Times (Still only £1.10)
I think I died a little inside.
6.
it took an in human effort to get my Morley Bass Wah off the pedalboard.
My FM-4 broke last weekend, and I wanted to take it off the board to have a go at fixing it. Foolishly, I had covered the entire back of the pedal with velcro, and when I tried to get it off, I couldn't. It honestly took me 5 minutes to pull it off, and in the end the velcro pulled off the back of the pedal and stayed attached to the board, and I ended up with the pedal in my hand. Quite strong stuff. I can pick up my board and then turn it upside down and shake, and everything stays firmly stuck to the board.
7. I use the Velcro brand Heavy Duty Velcro. Cost me about £25 for 5 metres, and works great. The only pedal I had any trouble with getting the Velcro to stick was with my Digitech Bass Synth Wah, but I pulled off the rubber backing and stuck it straight onto the metal and it is fine now.
8.
My intention was to replace my 410 and keep my rack amp. Would possibly look at installing side handles if I had to.
Turn the cab on its side?
9. Is this the rackmountable version, or is it the head version that has been built into a rack case?
10. I badly wish that I had a spare £200. Or any spare money at all, in fact...
11. Added album artwork (see avatar/Myspace link in sig) to the outside of my board case. It isn't perfect yet - needs some touching up, but it's a good start.
12. 2003 Corvette Standard Ash in Burgundy Red.
13.
EDIT: Forgot to say, just noticed you're the live Bassist for Charlie Barnes! Good times, I've seen him support Amplifier at the Manchester Academy twice now, it'd be good to see him with a bigger band, great guy, great music.
Yeah, his music is pretty awesome. It's easy being in his band because he writes pretty much everything. I've thrown in a few suggestions here and there, and written a couple of little bits myself, but mostly it's him, although I came up with all of the sounds that I'm using. It means that all I have to worry about is whether I can keep up with him vocally (I'm doing backing vox, and a lot of it is right near the top of my range) and whether I'm hitting the right pedals at the right time!
I ran out of patch cables, I think the power cables may have ethnically cleansed them because I'm missing like 10 (someone please sell me some)
Did you check the bottom right of the photo? Looks like there's some down there...
14.
Happynoj, how do you rate the FM-4? I've read a few reviews but I'm still umming and ahhing about taking the plunge.
Personally, I love it. I bought it totally on a whim. I'd been in the recording studio for 7 hours helping my friend track some drums for his album and I went out for a bit of a walk and ended up at a music shop. They had that in as 'B-Stock'. I asked about it, and it turned out that it had been ordered from their website and the guy tried it out once, didn't like it and returned it in perfect condition, but they weren't allowed to sell it as new so I got a bit of a bargain. I played with it a bit when I got it home and thought that it was OK but nothing special. However, since setting up my board and working out what sounds I'm going to use with the band it has really come into it's own. I've got the first preset set up to be a really phat synthy octave down, the second is the weird swampy sound that Chris Wolstenholme uses on the live version of Sunburn, the third makes a really good basis for dubstep sounds, and the fourth is this crazy down sweeping synth/filter that almost hurts it's so intense. I'm using it in a lot more places than I originally thought I would, since our live sound is much bigger and louder and dirtier than our recorded sound, so originally I wasn't quite sure whether it would fit in. It's also got a ton of sounds that I'm not using. Tracking isn't too bad, although it depends on which patch you're using. It's not great on the low notes, but speed-wise it's fine as long as your playing is clean and precise - probably comparable with the OC-2. I can't think of other things to say right now, but if there are things that I didn't cover then point them out to me and I'll address them as best I can.
15. First PYPB post! At the moment the wiring is very messy but this is basically a test setup. I intend to tidy it all up before it sees any real use with the band. I know it's not all boutique-ey like some of the boards on here, but it does what I need it to at the moment. I'm already thinking about switching out some pedals though, especially the Muff. Signal Chain: Bass > NS-2 > Tuner > Amp [NS-2 Send] > LS-2 > [NS-2 Return] [LS-2 Send A] > BSW > FM-4 > DS-1 > BF-2 > Pulsar > Time Machine > SMMwH Left > [LS-2 Return A] [LS-2 Send B] > OC-2 > LBM > Q-Tron > PH-3 > SMMwH Right > [LS-2 Return B] LS-2 is set to Mix A+B, so the two loops run in parallel for blending different sounds together. Night Shot:
16. Check out a band called Miloopa. Their bass player makes some sick sounds. Check out this track from around 3 mins in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4UDjMpzhJo
17. Good luck on getting a reply. I sent them a similar message a couple of months ago and never heard anything back.
to be honest.. why Akai dont make them anymore is unknown But what is also unknown, is why another company dont make similar sounding one?! I mean come on.. if you cant beat them join them, so idk why another company hasnt made a 'clone' or a very similar sounding one without breaching copyright.
I suspect that no one has made a clone because it's a digital pedal, so all of the information is on the chip and difficult to get to.
18. Please leave feedback here! Cheers Happynoj
19. Bought an Electro Harmonix Pulsar from Vince (Chenzo). I paid, he posted it within 12 hours, it arrived the next day! He also answered all of my questions helpfully and promptly. This is how all private sales should go down!
20. Is the Pulsar the XO version or the massive old version?
21. Bought a Peavey Max Bass Preamp from TGEvans last week. Answered all my questions quickly and helpfully, preamp arrived well packaged and in great condition as described. Thanks!
