1. I think one of the problems with the Stoke pub scene is that the same dozen bands are doing all the pubs in a kind of rotation...and they are the same bands(or variations of bands) that have been doing it for the last 10 years or more, for the same money. There have been a few landlords who have moved pubs recently and started putting music on in their new venue-but they usually take their regular clientele with them, and book the same bands.
 2. I've got Bartolinis in both my Roscoe and Tobias and they sound great. If the guy from Modulus recommends the Bartolinis,I'd be very inclined to listen to him-he knows his basses better than anyone else. If you like the Sadowsky pickups, ask Modulus about the possibility Dimarzio pickups. Sadowsky uses a custom version of the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz Pickup.
 3.
IIRC that Anthony Jackson was used for the single of Fishbone's version on Freddie's Dead.
It was actually Randy Jackson........Yes the American Idol guy. Whilst there are a bunch of album where the the bands bassist doesn't play on the album it happens far more with drummers. In a studio situation the drummer is usually the first player to be replaced.
 4. I seem to remember reading an old interview with Zender where he said something like although JK tries to treat it as a band,it is actually just him. Bearing in mind that the first single was JK and a bunch of session guys-including Andrew Levy on Bass. Edit...... In the Feb '98 issue of Bassist,it says that when Jay Kay recorded 'When You Gonna Learn' he didn't have a band-just a roster of 'help out' musicians. He actually put the 'band' together after that first single. So,as far as I see it,Jay Kay is Jamiroquai and can basically hire and fire a he sees fit.
 5. Jay Kay is Jamuroquai. He's the one who signed the contract. The band came later.
 6.
Depends what you mean by "nice" - by her own admission, she sh*t on her boyfriend's cornflakes. Jon.
Did he just eat around it?
 7.
Granted, Roger is not the greatest bass player in the world (not the best bass player in the band) but, as a thinker, music arranger and song writer, the guys a genious.
In that case, maybe he should have had a signature pen rather than a bass?
 8.
If the chronology wasn't all wrong, I'd be wondering if was a Dan Armstrong plug-in effects box. A Jamerson expert may be along shortly.
I think I remember reading that it was an early wireless system? I might be mistaken though
 9.
And we have the luxury of most of our gigs being fly aways to the Med for a Fri/Sat show, so we get a weekend away with the lads with someone else footing the bill and come back with more cash than we left with - could you do that with a covers band?
Yes!
Not as much fun as playing originals to 1000 diehard fans though, believe me!!
Which,to me isn't as much fun as sitting onstage in front of 2-3000 people and sight reading the charts first time...and nailing it. It's all relative. I work with a lot of original artists, but right now I don't feel the need to write music. I can express myself very well if I'm coming up with complementary lines for someone else's music or if I'm on a Jazz gig where I'm blowing over the changes. If I'm doing a covers gig,I can express myself by the way I perform,be it some crazy dance move(!) or by playing some little thing that,at that moment, feels right.
 10.
So who plays bass for the money? I know I don't. I do get paid but that's not my motivation.
Sometimes I do-I have bills to pay after all. I play both originals and covers-mostly covers. I regularly play to large audiences and have toured all around Europe and America. Plus,I don't need to have a day job,and I love every second of it.
 11.
...never had a bad Yamaha anything, that's about as scientific as I get!
I agree. Yamaha make quality products....it's what they do.
 12. I think it's all a matter of preference really. Both companies make great instruments at all price points. It's all a matter of which you like best-either way, you'll be getting a good instrument
 13. Adam Clayton is the best bass player in U2. I'm not a fan of his or the band, but they do what they do well, within their own niche. Whether you think he's a good player or not depends on your own definition of who is good and bad.
 14. The greatest hits came out a couple of years ago
 15.
Actually more seriously not knowing every note on the fretboard - there's really no excuse for it and it limits your note choice or forces you to overstretch
Which is one of the big reasons why you see poorer players only playing root notes in the exact same position as the guitarists barre chords.
 16.
Off subject. But why tablature disapproval. Its one of the oldest forms of written music. Its like disapproving of latin. Ain't saying this cos can't read music, oh yeah and not being arsey, just curious!
Because in the real world of gigs tablature doesn't exist. I don't want to turn this thread into another tab thing, but I'll happily talk via PM if you want.
 17. Let's say a player is chugging along on root note quavers for the whole night. Are they doing it because it is the best thing for that gig/band,or is it because they are unbelievably limited and cannot do any more than that? I'm not saying everyone has to be super-technical monster players, but a good player will play what is best for the situation, whereas a poor one will, and can, only play within their very narrow confines.
 18.
One thing I do want to do is to enhance my solo-ing ability - to maybe develop a party piece or two, just for fun.
Just to pick up on this quote for a minute...If you want to improve your soloing ability you are going to be better off studying music rather than technique. Having a solid knowledge of things like arpeggios and transcribing the 'greats' will make a bigger difference to your soloing than churning out slap licks. I love slap bass, but listen to the best players and they all have something to say in the instrument. Remember, slapping is just another way of making the note sound. It is not a style unto itself.
 19.
Couldn't make out what he was playing either, was it an AC?
I believe it was a Fender Jazz. I thought that Jamiroquai were pretty bland to be honest. In fact I thought the whole show was pretty lame...as usual.
 20.
Im currently trying to transcribe joydrop - beutiful but im struggling to hell with it, so if anyone can help me out with some tabs etc i would appreciate it
Thus defeating the whole purpose of transcribing. The whole point of transcribing is to listen to something and then notate what you hear. Persevere with it,without tabs, and you'll get it eventually.
 21. Barenaked Ladies -'Gordon'
 22. The HA4000 is a good head. It's Solid State with a parametric EQ and 400 watts @ 4 ohms(although with the the 4.5 cab it'll put out 220). I've had one for years and never had any problems.
 23.
Jazz Standards?? I didn't know that. What a lazy swinehunt. That's rendered my review far too complimentary and demonstrates that he is one of those "artists" who takes other people's beautifully made boozy fruitcakes and covers it in crap icing from Netto and draws stupid faces on it with cheap glittery things.
Not really, because the things that you liked about it are still good whether they are standards or originals. Anyway..... Here is some classic Jeff Berlin
 24. Music Radar have had a best bassist of all time poll. I don't feel the need to say anymore http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the...9007/25#content
 25. I'll just say that I think that Jeff Berlin is one of the finest electric bass players....ever. He swings like mad,has brilliant chops both technically and harmonically and I do actually like his music. Also, when I met him he couldn't have been nicer.
