1.
Well known fact that LBs don't work on string through bridges (several posts on this forum and I think a statement on the string packaging).
This. The regular ones are not for thru body. They do a different version of their flatwounds specifically for thru body stringing.
 2.
Absolutely no idea, but I was intrigued by your gear list... "6 delay pedals???" thinks I... "I've got to hear this!" I really like this:
Wow - that's fantastic. Right up my street! Thanks to dlloyd for posting and thebassist for putting his bass & 6 delay pedals to such creative use...top stuff
 3.
Hi can some kind soul tell me if the Special is worth the extra ? 2013 model. Cant see a lot of difference in the specs. I thought graphite rods were nornal in American standards these days along with custom shop pickups ? thanks
The Special is actually *cheaper* than the Standard - differences I think are 'Greasebucket' tone in Special vs regular treble-reducing tone in Std, Std is string thru body or top load, hardware espy tuners on Special are cheaper, whereas Standard has Hipshot low weight tuners. Std has USA CS pickup. Have never actually played a Special so cant comment on whether these differences amount to much. I do know that my 2012 Std is superbly well built and plays beautifully. hth
 4.
id love a bright orange one with black lettering
This!!
 5. What cabs were you using it with? Have read reports that LM's are sensitive when using certain cabs at 4ohms (think it was SWRs?). If the actual impedence of the cabs is slightly under 4Ohms - apparantly some are - the heads would cut out. Either way, as its new return it for a replacement. HTH
 6. FWIW another +1 for the Focusrite 2i2. Using it with a Macbook it's superb, very low latency & makes recording a breeze. Don't have much experience with other interfaces / zoom etc so can't really help with that.
 7.
I didn't read that post. I just saw that he said American and saw the open cavity, which is not American -- not until 2013 apparently.
I have a 2011 US standard Jazz (bought 2nd hand) and a 2012 US standard P (bought new) and they're both routed as per the OP, including the CNC-locator hold / stash receptacle. It does seem like this could be easily improved on by Fender to give people the option; though personally I think the Jaco sans-guard thing looks crap so I can live with it.
 8.
Whereabouts do you live Hank? If you can get to Chelmsford we will happily get the amp sorted for you while you wait
Great to see this kind of customer service from a UK company. Good luck with getting it sorted, OP.
 9. Great thread. thanks to all, esp Mr Foxen & Dan for all the advice re valves...priceless info. Have taken delivery of an LB30 last week and am absolutely gobsmacked with how great it sounds with my Pbass & Jazz. With the P & flats, its just chocolatey rich & smooth; with the J & rounds its bright, edgy and deep. Love this amp! Just one Q - haven't checked but am sure mine has Ruby branded EL84s in the power section (Chinese amp). They sound lovely to me, but is there any point in me swapping them out for something fancier? I'm gonna buy a set of spares anyway so any advice on what to get for this specific amp greatly appreciated.
 10.
Tried a LB30 in PMT Bristol yesterday, through a massive Orange 1x15 cab (OBC115 I think). Disappointingly quiet I have to say. This was with a meaty passive bass (Yamaha BB714BS), gain at 3 o'clock, master at 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock. I assume there was some sort of problem, or maybe the cab was not very efficient.
I thought the LB had just a single vol control ie not a separate gain & master vol?
 11. Another vote for Drew at the Manchester Bass Lounge. Great lineup of basses and a comfortable, pressure-free environment to try them out in.
 12. Cool - I saw Intraverse at the Gazastock festival a year ago - great band, loadsa energy. Will try and make it to the Forum shows. Cheers for posting!
 13.
One of those rare times when a cover version is better than the original.
Top tune, tho much as I love ACR, the original is storming!! Amazing bassline...
 14.
SGD Lutherie makes sidewinder pickups.
OP - You might need to be prepared to wait for a long time if you go this route, according to this thread on TB...caveat emptor
 15.
Well I DO want to know the science behind it, because my experience is that the glossiness of the finish is not directly related to how sticky it feels. More then ever from reading this I am convinced that while some finishes are less sticky than others but it isn't related to how shiny they are but what the finish is made of. The rest of it seems to me to be entirely psychological.
I think that because you haven't experienced this directly, then no explanation will satisfy you. A number of posters (including the OP) have all reported that they have experienced this, have given a solution (lightly sanding the neck to take the gloss down) and have even attempted to explain the physics of this (sanding reduces the surface area in contact between skin and neck). TBH the physics of it is not a great mystery - see stiction and coefficients of friction and how these are reduced with an irregular surface vs a smooth one. Even if you haven't experienced it on a guitar neck, you must have experienced it when running a finger across a damp, smooth surface eg a glass window. The sticking-then-releasing sensation is caused by stiction and is the same phenomenon. If you ran yr finger down a non-smooth surface eg a piece of frosted glass the stiction would not occur.
 16.
Had this problem with a poly-finish neck and solved it by removing some (not all) of the finish with a Scotchbrite pad wrapped around a sanding block. Lovely and smooth now, and no sweaty neck hampering (SNH).
This. I use one of those yellow washing up sponges with the green scourer-type pad on one side. Scrub round in circles all over the neck & it takes the gloss off. Easy to repolish back to glossy if you ever feel the need to.
 17.
The new Gordon Smith Gryphons are great basses, really good pickups.
Agreed. Drew at the Manchester Bass Lounge is selling these, along with a good selection of Overwaters. Definitely worth the trip if you're wanting to try either of these brands out. he also does great coffee
 18.
Yes... I think the squared off covers (60s) were rounded off in the seventies sometime... documentation is hard to find on this though. I have the rounded covers on my 2002 P bass.
My 1973 precision has the squared off cover, so looks like we're narrowing down the change to mid-late 1970s.
 19. Meh, so the 'total bass cull' actually amounted to the addition of a single string...bloomin' drama queen But seriously, enjoy the new 5er - it looks proper gorgeous!!
 20. Top tune - really enjoyed this when it was on a couple of weeks ago. Cheers for posting!
 21. OP, welcome back If I recall rightly weren't you the lass that posted a few months ago about how you have been through a load of basses in recent years in an attempt to sort out wrist pain / comfort issues? If it is you, then my suggestion would be that, if you havent already, you would be best served by trying to sort out the underlying wrist problem first - having been through something similar I can say that I don't think the fix lies with an endless succession of different basses. Sure, neck profiles are different and are a personal thing, but I think that you'd be better served getting some advice/physio re your wrist first. I don't think your question can really be answered by folks on a forum, as your health issues are specific to you and can't really be answered by others. What suits me will not necessarily suit you etc. Hope you don't mind me talking you down from a possible new purchase, its just that IME the root of the problem lies elsewhere. OTOH, if you just wanna GAS for a new bass, then go right ahead & please post pics !!
 22. Hi Plampers I found the StudyBass site really useful as an introduction. cheers
 23. Cool cheers! Whatever the reality is re the sound differences, they sure look great...am a bit of a sucker for that slab thing. Looks heavy, like an old testament stone slab or summat...
 24.
Good to know a 'clean' example can be built too. But the real question is, does it nail 'that' sound?
I've been checking out the Limelight stuff too, and agree they look nice, esp'y the less heavily reliced ones...but re the Slab - what is that sound...? Are we simply talking Entwistle's sound, or do they sound different to other P's of that era? I've never heard one - either original or a repro - and am curious.
 25.
Didn't you make a post recently where you were listening to one of your own songs and you weren't aware of it? Well, if it wasn't memorable to you, how memorable do you think it would be to others? Something to consider. Art is communication. Art can be entertaining. Excluding all enjoyable aspects from it doesn't make it more artsy. It just makes it less good.
True...as is the reverse, of course. Just because something is entertaining / memorable / has mass appeal doesn't ensure that it's art or has merit beyond simply being popular. It's the old art vs populism debate again, and one is often used to make a case for or against the other, (incorrectly, IMO). This is the same trap our friend Inti kept falling into.
