1.
FL Studio (Fruity Loops) is very good for knocking out accompaniments very quickly. The piano roll sequencer is really intuitive. If you don't need audio recording it costs $99 (US), if you do you need the Producer Edition at $199. You can find a lot of free vst instruments and effects around to use in Fruity. www.image-line.com/documents/flstudio.html There are some free sequencers about that would do the same job, but I don't know them, so i can't say how easy they are to use. fatback
Thanks very much Matt
2.
JamStudio is pretty good, and it's online too so no software to install.
Hi many thanks for that. It seems pretty straight forward. perhaps im being a bit slow but can you save the tracks to a different hard drive or disc ? Cheers Matt
3. Hi All. can someone reccomend some really easy music making software for me please. I use PC not mac. I dont play any other instruments other than Bass. I want to be able to create some simple chord progression with some possible drum effects music to jam along with on my bass so that I can help my improvisation. It just needs to be really basic so I can keep up! I hope that made sense. cheers Matt
4. I must admit that Reverb has been indifferent, but sort of Ok after a fashion. Certainly it could do with a boot up the arse. Rickaxxe isnt really worth bothering with. I haven't tried Absolute yet but although i know one Bc'er has had some difficult dealings with them, I'll reserve judgement until I go in there. Drum bank on the Gloucester road is ok if the older chap is in there, the kids dont care much. It must be said that I still see myself as being very new to this. I might not be the best person to comment. However, I used to work in the retail trade and I understand selling and good attitude as opposed to bad or uncaring. Cheers Matt
5. S5S Welcome back. I use this fingering excersize to warm up with. You can start it anywhere, but the key is to do it smoothly and slowly until you have it with no noises buzzes etc. Once you've done this you can play it as fast as you like. So, starting on any fret and any string, but keeping moving around the fret board 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 1 4 3 4 2 4 3 4 1. Im sure there are plenty of other and probably better ideas out there but this works for me. It has a bit of history as it was an exersize started by a famous and very well known guitar player. I hope this helps Matt I notice you've grown a second head while youve been away from Bass chat!
6. How about wearing shades and pointing the neck at the audience? maybe?
7. I went to the LCM, it was absolute bo**ocks. Mind you that was back in the eighties when it was in Great Malborough st. matt
8.
I would have though that help with those choices is what Jon is there to do?
Hi yes indeed, but he has only listed a few types of pick up. I just need some basic info on what they are like or whether, because of the 'bespokeness' of such a hand made bass, would it better to spend some extra cash for something better/ different? Im sure Jon is extremley knowledgable is this area, but i do like to research projects before i commit cash to them cheers Matt
9. Hi All. Cheers for your input Luke I have a few more questions for you, but I'll pm you. I think my main concern, as I'm still fairly new to the Bass, is about pickups, the choices of and which is better for which purpose ie do you need different for passive/active and why etc. Would this be dependant on what sort of style of music you intend to play? Hmm Cheers Matt
10. Time to move on, definitely. if you just walked away, do you think they would even notice? matt
11. Hi Im sure ive seen something like this on the site somewhere, but has anyone actually done the group course. It seems like an incredibly good deal. Im fairly well versed in carpentry so am seriously considering this. Any info would be great. Cheers Matt
12. I Had plenty of fun with this, thanks very much. Matt
13. Is it just me? I cant see any of the pics.
14. I imagine if there are any bassists here without a gig it must be because they don't want one.
Hmm, thats not strictly true or fair! I'm still learning and when I feel confident enough in my playing I'll give it a go, just not yet! SOON!
15. Good to see the BCers have brought about the CORRECT result.
16. + all of the above. I get really bored of headphones some of the time, plus i worry about my hearing. I cant do much loud noise in my flat! Matt

20.
My RIM Custom 5. The joy of a 36" scale thru-neck wenge/ash five with chambered body and outstanding passive electronics. Incomparably HUGE sound and so tonally and dynamically responsive to your playing. Alex
Thats a damn fine looking bass! Blimey. However, i would have to say that my favorite bass is my gsr 180. Its the only bass i know. Otherwise my favorite bass would be a free one! Cheers Matt
21. Hi All. Many thanks for the answers. Alex, i am 6ft 5 so i allways think that headroom is the space i have to get through a door with damaging my head, hence the appropiatition of the term. I think i understand what your saying tho. Cheers Matt
