1. this time last year, it was the sale of Bass Chat!
2. I am going to suggest that this thread gets closed as presently, nothing seems to be happening at all with the organisation of a SW Bass Bash. In fact I believe that it is in fact almost detrimental to one ever being organised. I think that the one person who was making definite in roads to possibly organise one, may well have been marginalised by the application of the current poll. For that, I apologise. Hopefully, if another thread does appear on this subject, it will be when therhe is a chance that the bash might happen, which I truly hope it does as it was this thought that prompted me to answer the question in the first place. I hope this is OK with everyone, unless of course you all strongly disagree. Cheers Matt
3. I like the Chorus sound on the tascam, so mine stays on a lot of the time.
4. Have been having a go at Dont stop believing - Journey since it got mentioned here!
5.
I think I've seen this before, it's like a smugness contest.
The bloke playing the bass is a midget no?
6. Lowly stuff from me here; Is there any point upgrading the PSNDJ p/u's on my GSR 180. I dont have the cash to buy a new bass just yet and am wondering if this is an ok upgrade. I know some Ib's have the MEC p/u's which look the same size. will they fit? Thoughts & responses welcome. Cheers Matt
7. Next question. I have not been to a 'bash' and am not sure what the score is, and neither do I have access to what I think should be a good enough venue. Has anyone been from the SW ever been involved in organising one and does anyone have a venue but can't organise? Its time to get this show on the road.
8.
im sure a few of you have seen me waffle on here so far as a newbie. i am now looking for a solid bodied bass. i have see a ibanez gsr 190 bass starter pack advertised for£237 pound including the bass guitar you get a 15 watt practice amp, strap, tuner and a few other accessories. are these starter packs worth paying for as they are aimed at the beginner. or should i stay well clear, i must admit it seems too good a bargain to miss, or maybe i am just naive.
I have an Ibanez GSR 180, which is the same model as that which comes with the starter pack I think. I paid £130 for the 180, and there are a few practice amps on this site for sale for not much cash. Alternatively you can certainly get a decent combo and still save money. You can do a lot better than the £237! The GSR is a pretty good starting point. Its worth looking at the set up tho. there was a fantastic article in Januarys BGM which I followed for the first time, and its great now! Neck is great, I like it. A bit wider than a P or J but pretty good nonetheless! It has a decent tone and the sustain aint bad for the money. There's plenty of playing left in this bass before I start thinking of upgrading. Strap from Reverb £5 Cable £10 Tuner £15 This is the way I chose to go. It gave me a lot more choice. I hope this helps cheers Matt
9. I think that is entirely reasonable that a location is put in. It really would save some people a bit of GAS related heartache. not EVERYTHING is in Bristol tho, I wish it was! cheers Matt
10. Chepstow was just an option. I was going to put down Nempnett Thrubwell but that would only have been for comedy value and also difficult to find!
11. Thats actually a really nice looking bass. Shame I aint got the cash. Sorry! Bump!
12. Thank you very much everyone. There's tons in here. I must admit thta I have rather neglected scales and the like, but I like the arpeggio thoughts. I also liked the thought of the singing bass lines, it is in fact something that I do, but find difficult to 'transpose' and 'articulate'to my bass. I am alos going to have to reread someof the posts again. In answer to the 'L' plate. it was something that felt I needed to do when I joined up to this site. I am getting better, but still not confident enough of my own abilities to play with other people so the 'L' stands! one day! cheers Matt
13. Hi Ive started to work on improvisation with my tutor. Great teacher, very patient. Also, very kindly, he records tracks for me to work with which I find really useful. The idea being that I go away and come back with my own bass lines. However, it does seem to take me ages to get a good bass line going and even when I do i seem to 'run out of ideas' quite quickly. I am trying not to run before I can walk but I do find this frustrating. Is this normal? Would appreciate some thoughts. Cheers Matt
14.
At a gig a couple of years ago I'd finished setting up - LMII, Ampeg 410, Fender Precision, TU2, Punch Factory - when a guy wanders over and says 'Is that your gear?', I say 'Yes', and he says 'I bet you're one of those people who buys Bass Guitar Magazine'.
Thats very funny! But TRUE!
15. Now with new ammended poll. Finally got the damn thing working so that you can all vote again! Matt Multiple votes for everyone this time!
16.
No problem! - I think they are great basses which make a good P Bass type sound even with the stock pickups, they just get a bit muddy with the treble rolled off. Good basis for building a great bass on the cheap. I used mine on a lot of my bands recordings even before I fitted the EMG's. Go for it!
cheers
17.
That looks like one of the better early Indian built ones with the solid ash body, looks like the one I've got (the special edition they did in a kind of pearlescent white). I've changed the pickups to EMG's & it sounds fantastic!! Sooo heavy though, my back aches after a long gig. I bought mine new around 1992/93.
Pmd by mistake , apologies
18. is this still available, im also in Bristol cheers matt
19.
The little Line 6 110 amp looks good for bedroom practice. Small, loud'ish if required as a back up amp with DI out and headphones out which is important. Some amp modelling as well if that's your thing.
+1
20.
How many watts is this @ 8 ohms?
I think it's about 180W. If I remember rightly there is some info on the GK website.
21. Cheaper! Im fairly sure it does the same thing, but not certain. Ive sort of explored this route but not seriously yet. Some people say that the RC 20 is a better buy as the extra foot swith makes things easier. I hope this isnt misleading Cheers Matt
22. Fair enough. Seems like a bloody silly thing to try after the 'missing bass' situation last year. Good call to Ban tho, this is a great site, we dont need idiots trashing it. Cheers Matt
23.
madedude Edit: bollocks.... late agin! And I wee'd on me shoes!!
LOL!
