Total Watts

1. im sure a few of you have seen me waffle on here so far as a newbie. i am now looking for a solid bodied bass. i have see a ibanez gsr 190 bass starter pack advertised for£237 pound including the bass guitar you get a 15 watt practice amp, strap, tuner and a few other accessories. are these starter packs worth paying for as they are aimed at the beginner. or should i stay well clear, i must admit it seems too good a bargain to miss, or maybe i am just naive.
2. right guys looks like i have made a complete dick of myself over the weekend on this site, harping on about acoustic bass guitars. this is my story, as i said i play in a 3 piece band and we play covers in pubs, and to try and put our own angle on the set just play acousticly. we thought it might be good to add a bass guitar. i as the novice musician in the band said i would like to try the bass, and said i will get my self a reasonable bass for a beginner. then the other guitarist in the band passed a message on to me that i could borrow his bass, to learn on until i got my own. i assumed it was an acoustic bass as we are a acoustic band. so i have been looking for a decent acoustic bass all weekend at a decent price for a beginner and coming on here asking some stupid questions. most of you replied telling me that i should start with a solid bodied bass as a beginner, and acoustic bass would not be heard much on stage. any way this morning i spoke to the main man in our little band, i told him what i had been doing all weekend. he then turned around and said to me, that he agreed that i should learn on a solid body bass, he said the one i was going to be borrowing is a solid bodied bass! and he could not comment on playing acoustic bass as he has never played one on stage! so after all the crap i have been talking all weekend has been for nowt lol. at least now i know nearly everything bad and good about acoustic bass guitars lol!
3. yes this is quite a shock, there are still people out there who are friendly, helpful and not just out for what they can get, and even better they got something in common bass guitars. thanks elom
4. dom i havent got any bass at the moment i am thinking of an ibanez, as it is in my price range as with the others listed. can anyone suggest if which of the ones i have listed are better. we will pe playing through PA
5. so if the acoustic bass and standard acoustic are both amped would it sound ok, or would it still not sound good enough. why is it better to learn on a solid body bass. btw sorry to keep asking what must seem like stupid questions, and repeating my threads a bit, but i am a novice and want to be clear on things. but thanks for putting up with me.
6. i am lending a acoustic bass off someone and they are going to teach me some basics, i wanted a book to help me at home all the time
7. i am in a 3 piece band and we only play acousticly , playing covers. our other guitarist only plays acoustic guitar, we have congas, tamborine, and i play harmonica. we thought it might be nice to add bass guitar. so i said i would like to learn. i thought if i get a electro/acoustic bass it will be good and loud as it would be plugged into amps, enough for were we play, small pubs and clubs. keeps the acoustic thing going. any help or direction i would like to hear the pros and cons thanks. also i was looking for any tips on what acoustic bass to buy for a beginner i am looking to spend about £250.00 on a guitar. so far i have thought about: Michael kelly firefly electro acoustic Tanglewood TAB1-CE electro acoustic IBANEZ AEB8E electro acoustic Epiphone viola bass electro acoustic
8. hi again from the newbie. can anyone recommend a good learner book for beginners. i will be buying an electro/acoustic bass. dont know if it matters what bass book you buy. i was going to buy bass guitar for dummies. but dont know if it would be specific for electric bass only.
9. so now im torn between the viola bass, or a tanglewood TAB1-CE Acoustic bass. bearing in mind i am a beginner on guitar, only experiance on stringed instrument is as a beginner ukulele player. like i said we have an acoustic guitar player that is amped up still with a pick up. any help advice
10. thanks for the advice guys, i know i say we play acoustic but the acoustic guitar player is amped up, would you still advise a tanglewood.
11. im thinking of getting a epiphone viola base. it will be my first guitar and i will be playing bass in my acoustic band. i have read the reviews that say it is ok acousticly and electric. any help or advice welcome
12. mother earth - the people tree album is fantastic, esp. mr freedom. i also like anything by galliano.
13. hi everyone thought i would join this forum as i am about to start playing bass guitar. i am mike in a little band (only 3 of us) just starting out just for a hobbie playing covers in pubs etc.. i am currently the harmonica player in the band, conga and tambourine all the tough stuff! we only play accousticly, trying to put our own mark, for better or worse lol, on popular songs. i have also been messing about with a ukulele learning to play simple tunes and obviously chords. so now me and the band have decided it is time for me to learn bass guitar to add another dimension to our 3 piece. i am really committed to learning bass, and as we are an acoustic band i have decided to save my pennies and buy a epiphone viola bass anyone have any thoughts.
