1.
Aside from the music - can you understand what Jools is saying in between songs? His diction is awful for a TV presenter. Just don't get what he says. While we're at it - same for that Dara O Brien guy. They both eat their words. Or maybe its my hearing...
I'm from Belgium and I can understand him :-)
2. I recently bought a Ken Smith BSR so this one can go...some traces of use but overall in good condition. Comes with a case and can be picked up or shipped (the shipment in Europe is included in the price) Has all the characteristics of a Smith bass from a funky slap to those punchy mids. Controls : volume (push pull between active and passive), balance, bass, treble. Not really looking for trades except a Kingbass.. Feel free me to contact me for further info or pictures and thanks for looking..
3. Bought a Precision '71 here on bass.chat which belonged to Willie Weeks..
4. I remember that Melvin took care of Pastorius when he was in a mental hospital and had to vow that he would do all what was necessary before he could take Jaco home to Melvin's house and mother. The following months Jaco became better because of Brian and his mother and started to get grip of his life again and the mental issues seemed to have gone. Slowly Brian suggested that Jaco would play bass again and a band was formed. To make things less stressful Melvin launched a club tour in France to get Jaco familiar again with audiences etc. The first night as they went on stage Jaco immediately changed as dr Jekyll and Hyde and started insulting people in the audience, even started spitting. Melvin was so surprised that he tried to talk some sense to Jaco on stage to which Jaco said in the mike : "Who's the great musician here on stage, me or Brian ? who do you want to see leave the stage, me or him ?" to which the audience started shouting "Melvin !". Not a nice way to thank your friends
5. Incredible musician..."miss" him too.
6. Some people have asked for some more info..I took a picture of the info on the cavity plate..the weight of the bass is 4,5 kg
7. I'm selling my fretless Wal from 1984 (W2307) which I bought a couple of months ago here on bass.chat. I paid 3900 euros for it and an extra 250 euros to have a luthier put some satin finish on the neck and make the dots and the lines a bit clearer for my eyes... Apart from some buckle rash on the back it is in excellent condition and has all the Wal ingredients you need (comes with a Wal case). Not looking for a profit so I want to have my money back so I'm asking 3425 £ which includes shipment to the UK and a big part of Europe. Collection is also possible but I live near Brussels (Belgium). Not looking for trades, sorry. I hope the former owner doesn't mind that I'm using some of his pictures . For more information one can always contact me. I'll send the bass well packed as soon as the payment has been done (feedback is on bass.chat under "wombatboter") but I don't use paypal.. Not that I have anything to hide since I lost 1800 euros myself years ago on a fake Wal somewhere in Scotland (at a time I was too naieve and had never heard of Western Union) I would say I wasn't really looking for trades but to be honest I'm back in a Level 42-mood so perhaps a nice Status Kingbass of a colourful Jaydee (with a stable neck) and some extra cash could make me change my mind. Thanks for looking..some pictures and a couple of vids I made to give an impression of the potential of this bass.
8. There are still people who think Black Velvet was played on a fretless while that was a Yamaha keyboard, I'm still not convinced...
9. Been listening to it and I get the impression that it's a keyboard instead of a fretless..the notes are too even but I could be mistaken.
10. Loved the ELO set but was all of this live ? It sounded just a bit too perfect..I had the impression that I heard far more voices than there were (and other instruments too). Bit weird because I couldn't see any clicktrack for the drummer. Jeff's voice was also so full as if it was doubled. Great performance though, Turn to stone and Mr Blue Sky, shivers down my spine.. Who was the backing singer ? Had the feeling I had seen him before (reminded me of a character in The League of Gentlemen :-))
11. Sterling Ball, boss of MM : Flea was using the basses and really didnt have any direct connection with us. I invited him to slo to play in a The Mike Krukow Charity Golf Tournament ( former Cal Poly Alumni and Major League pitcher now broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants...has an orange axis) and he accepted. He showed up late barefoot and without a shirt golf clubs or balls. we got on pretty good. From there we supplied him with alot of basses and I hated his bass smashing phase. He left over money. He wanted a Flea signature Stingray and I said that wouldnt be right by Leo, Tony, Louis and all of the other stingray players. He said that his drummer was going to make a 100k from snare drum royalties and he wanted to make a cut on stingrays. I thought I had him calmed down but then I got wind of the Modulous deal and the last conversation was his atorney trying to tell me what I had to do and I said the only thing I really get to do is hang up on you....last contact. I wish that Flea and us could have split under better circumstances. I was right though The funny story about Flea is that I asked him to do an ad for Slinky Bass strings that had just come out. he had the strings claimed to like them and I had a wacky shot of him and it said "Flea's Gone Slinky" The ad came out and Flea said GHS called and was bummed and he didnt know he was doing a string ad.....
12. First single I ever bought around here in Belgium...."Ballroom Blitz" ("Are you ready, Steve ?"). Changed everything for me..
13. Bought a couple things from Bass Direct (like Bergantino cabs) and everything was shipped nicely to Belgium.... Only thing that bothers me is the quality of the videos they offer....this is supposed to make my buy this fretless while the player looks bored and has little knowledge of how you bring out the best in a bass. Watched some other videos too and I have the feeling this player has no idea what a bass player is looking for when he clicks on these videos..mindless slapping, three chords on an expensive Fodera, etc...Pity because the shop's great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiqZMpwSO4k
14. Hadn't heard that before but you have a point...especially the brass section is a copy
15. Although it smells like Another one bites the dust "my" country had the best bass line in the competition ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMZH2w7IfhM
16. Great seller and very trustworthy....great bass too imo for that price.
17. Played one of these recently, excellent value for money....wasn't expecting this sort of quality
18. I keep looking at those pictures (even dowloaded them on my computer :-)) because this is kind of my dream bass..Unfortunately out of my price range but that doesn't change the immense beauty of this instrument, Good luck with the sale !
19. Top transaction...I can only recommend him for his carefullness and dedication, thanks a lot !
