1. I would certainly imagine you'd be providing your rig for other bass players to use. Generally, the form is you play a couple of numbers with your band and then they start rotating the other players who have come along. You may do the last couple of numbers too. I have done it in the past and enjoyed the experience. I haven't ever had my gear thrashed (but then it's capable of being far louder than it's ever used) and it's actually quite good to hear your rig being used by other players.
2. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/finally-an-edible-electric-guitar-made-from-a-giant-tortilla-chip-a6710266.html What happens after its sell by date?
3. You are welcome to borrow one of my Compacts and give it a go (I could come along to a gig if that's easier). I have gone down the 2 x Compacts as opposed to my Boogie 2x15. The sound is very compatible.
4. Another vote for change the pick-up and keep the original. Best of all worlds in that you retain a great playing bass and it has the tone you want. If I had one of those you'd have to prise it out of my dead, cold hands.
5. Maybe Sting thought he'd miss it THAT much and bought it himself. :-)
6. Hi. Another question (I am so sorely tempted to get this and flog my two Gen 2 Compacts). Is it cloth or grille?
7.
I put Kent Armstrong Vintage Hot P Alnico pickups on my bitsa. Sounds great to me, without breaking the bank.
Excellent pick ups and a (near) secret weapon. Great pick ups at a very reasonable price.
8.
What really pisses me off. . . . is. . . . . Must be under 30!!!!!
Think of it as an IQ requirement.
9. Hardly a dilemma, you have sent the parcel to the address he provided at the time he wanted you to send it. Any problem is entirely of his making and you shouldn't worry about any aspect of the delivery (hard not to, I accept).
10.
Maybe I should have just made this a poll after all...
Gets my vote.
11. Yes, wonderful news. Lay off the Weetabix though.
12. I freely admit that I am but maybe I should be more specific and say a particular speaker size in a ported enclosure. I do like the sounds that other players get with other speaker sizes but just find I have a preference that probably colours my judgement in relation to choosing cabs.
13. Hi Gareth Looks a good buy for the money. 10" active monitor for vox only - does Paul have backline or is he needing a monitor? I have a stereo DI he can have if you want to feed your mixer via the mic channels (with a pair of link cables if needed).
14. Quentin joins an orchestra as a violinist and sits next to Sebastian during a run of concerts. Night after night they sit there, in their black suits, and play the pieces. During a long rest in one of them Sebastian turns to Quentin and say "do you know what? I am so fed up of sitting in this uncomfortable suit with my black bow tie, black socks and black shoes. Tomorrow night I'm jolly well going to do something about it". Quentin says "good heavens, old chap, what on earth can you mean? What are you going to do?". "Just wait until tomorrow night", says Sebastian, "I'll bally well show them". The next night comes and there's Sebastian in his black suit, white shirt an bow tie. When they get to that same long rest, Quentin asks "what happened to your resolve, old fellow?" With that, Sebastian lifts the leg of his trousers to reveal a yellow stripe on his socks. "Great scot, what have you done" says Quentin. Sebastian turns to Quentin and says "f**k 'em".
15. Thank god we can put all that to bed once and for all.
16.
They moved production to Switzerland for a little while...
Oh, very good. :-)
17. I have owned a decent number of very nice pre-CBS Precisions and now consider myself to be past the snobbery of those basses. My favourite period for them is 1966 to 1973/4 because you get a nice light bass which is every bit as good as a pre-CBS bass without the price tag. So, as an investment - yes. As an instrument to be played - no.
18. Agreed. I spent a few of my formative years playing in a big band - just watch out for the Sammy Nestico arrangements! That said, the sheer power of having a full band all around you is awesome.
19. If the Greco is with Mark at Classic and Cool then you can buy with confidence as he is an excellent guy to deal with. He will have other stuff you can try too.
20. I used to play with old drummers (from the days when gigs at certain venues would end with the National Anthem) who told me they'd finish the anthem on just bass and hi-hat and would pack the rest as they played the anthem.
21. Absolutely. Far better to mine the resource rather than tell him where he was going wrong.
