  1. Hiya, No prob. Jono Bolton is looking for a cab locally and I am ready to let this go, so pulled it up for him to look at, thanks for asking. G.
  2. Many of us have a reaction to nickel which turns our fingers black - some even have an extreme reaction and end up with lesions. Never had this before? G.
  3. I owned the unmarked fretless version of this - how many of those do you think there are? - and it was a proper excellent bass in every way. Fit & finish were superb and once you'd sussed the controls it was really flexible. One of the switches turned both pups from series to parallel, another put them out of phase and somewhere you could switch it fro active to passive with a passive tone control. One of the ones I am sorry to have had to sell. G.
  4. Just to top off this thread, I received an email a few days later telling me the bass had been repaired and when would I like it back? Gave my preference and when I got home after the weekend it was waiting for me on my front door (inside secure entrance - neighbour let it in). Seems to ba at least a different mids unit as I marked the original, although it may ne a full pre replacement. Whatever. It now works great. Thanks Andertons. G.
  5. They were ALL aubergine at one time .. I remember looking down at a motorway trafficjam running through the centre of Glasgow and at least 9 out of 10 cars were aubergine. G.
  6. Now.....if you did this in a 5er.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! G.
  7. I bought a Sire Marcus Miller M7 in February. Most impressed. It has replaced my TRB5 completely. However, playing an open mic last night & turned the Frequency part of the stacked knob round to high end & turned up the Tone volume. Did number fine, then was turning back to flat when I experienced a big CRUNCH from the pot. Since I use this setting for several numbers I was concerned. Indeed by the end of the night this had progressed to several crunches quite close together. After I got home I stuck on my headphones and examined the problem. There were about 3 places quite close together crunching and if you got the setting right on top of one you got feedback overpowering everything. If you switched to passive mode you could still hear it. Not good. I changed the batteries to no avail as I know some preamps give this kind of signal when battery is low. Phoned Andertons this morning & was passed to their bassman, Dave, who asked all the right questions and after a a few minutes agreed it sounded like a faulty pot and would get the item collected and repaired. I've arranged for it to be collected week today. No probs. How it should be. Thanks Andertons. And I'm going to mark the circuit board so I know if it has been replaced or if they've just used a blast of pot cleaner. OK, I'm paranoid. Anyway it was much less painful than I expected. G.

  9. I had a truss rod prob with my Perception & drove it down from Glasgow to Carlisle where Chris fettled it personally. Top bloke. G.
  10. Thinking of buying a set of chrome Ultralites in 4x1 format to replace the full sized cloverleaf type. Could someone advise me which model I need & maybe a good place to buy them? Ta. G.
  11. I believe they may have been Picato strings which has now gone out of business. I may stand corrected. Seemingly Strings & Things have 'em: https://www.guitarstringsandthings.co.uk/21_picato G.
  12. Easiest way is to use an outboard pre. I have an MXR MX80+. Works great. As mentioned above an EQ pedal would also work as most have a volume boost. The real answer is to splash the cash and fit a John East J-Retro Pre. That'll fix it. G.

  15. Fair 'nuff. Any other cut-off sockets? Headphone socket faulty? G.
  16. Have you looped the Effects In/Effects Out if there is one? G.

  18. I had this kind of thing a while back. It turned out the young owner had taken a string from an acoustic bass & put it on his electric. Put a standard electric string on and all worked fine. G.
  19. I have a B-206FM as above and agree with the comments above about the pickups & pre. However, I put some firm foam under the pickups and moved them much nearer the strings. While not an absolute cure - I think replacing the pre is necessary, it has improved the tone substantially - enouch to gig it anyway. G.
