  1. I'm guessing you've heard Sunn O))'s Dømkirke - immense sound on the record, but must have been incredible to hear it live. Our church like many others has lots of glass instead of stone, soft coverings on seats rather than wooden pews etc., so not in the same league acoustically - however it does resonate at A, which has resulted in some bass shocks to those sitting near the back!
  2. HI Caz, I've been using this video tutorial: ...which links to this notation chart: https://www.talkingbass.net/the-coolest-bass-line-in-the-world-ever/ The page also has a breakdown of each part and drum backing. Enjoy!
  3. The biggest surprise was the Xotic XJ-1T 5, so easy to play for a 4-stringer like me. The ones in italics I've sold to Basschatters, having bought several from Basschatters too. I let you guess when I joined Basschat
  4. I've just changed my YOB by Deed Poll just so this can be a YOB bass...
  5. I can strongly recommend the Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Profile, both with its stock roundwounds or La Bella flats. Superb playability and pickup! http://www.basscentre.com/british-bass-masters/bruce-thomas-profile.html
  6. The Members have no original Members...
  7. Yeah just been watching it too! Cracking band Did you recognise the bassist's second bass? Very nice looking 5-string J with maple board but I couldn't work out the logo...
  8. And SOLD. Thanks for all the interest!
  9. For sale only: Yamaha TRB II 5 string. 35" scale for a mighty B string, and an active B/M/T pre with volume/blend. Purchased from Brother Jones of this parish but now need to make space for impending house move... 43mm nut 4.6 kg 19mm spacing at bridge Condition: Cosmetically as per photos, one small dent on front shown. Fully working order and a lovely player. All controls work well, although the centre detentes don't 'bite' as much as they maybe should. But the pots hold their position and I've never had a problem. Comes with gig bag, of which the pocket zip doesn't work but the main bag zip does. Will ship for free in UK by Parcelforce 48 My feedback: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235157-kevsy71/ Cheers! Kev
  10. Great news Mick! I can't imagine how good your Sean Hurley sounds through it
  11. Still here bump
  12. A ludicrous bargain from a top seller! If I got on with Jazz necks I'd be on this like a shot. Sadly my chunky hamfists can only go cope with 41mm or more... GLWTS Stew
  13. Sold Phil a power amp - fast communications, smooth transaction and an all-round pleasure to deal with! Thanks Phil
  14. Sold Tim a greenboy cab - excellent communication throughout, a smooth transaction and a friendly chap! Deal with confidence
  15. Hi there MWP, certainly no harm in starting on a 5 - many discussions here on the benefits of being able to extend the scale patterns by one more string, meaning you can 'park' your fretting hand in one position and minimise shifts up and down the neck. Pay attention to muting as you have one more string to keep quiet when it's not being played though! I found this video useful: ...albeit I was coming from 4 string. The Sire sounds a great choice, or keep an eye on the Basschat markerplace. Good luck!
  16. I can well believe that - to my ears, the '85 olive ash Wal I all too briefly owned direct to desk via XLR was both my favourite tone and one with zero noise - amazing electronics!
  17. Brilliant Trevor! Our tech guy is a legend, he thinks my Bruce Thomas Profile through a SansAmp VT 'SVT' setting is the best bass tone he's had in the worship room and cranks it up. You almost don't need a monitor!
  18. I'd absolutely love to do gospel sets - for one thing I'd have a stone-cold excuse to get a Ken Smith 5 again! I suspect gospel players are never told 'sit this out until the chorus, and don't go North of the 5th fret'
  19. 'Overplay' in Worship bass can mean 'more than one note per bar' or even 'any note per verse'! Just have to enjoy the song and from a technique perspective, think of it as good timing and sustain practice.
  20. Stage setup is (something like) bass->DI->desk mic preamp->mixer->foldback/IEMs. Assuming a digital mixer then it is likely to have a decent DAC, and the mixer may be sending you a bass-heavy monitor mix which differs from the front of house mix (and/or you may have your bass amp as an additional monitor). So that contributes to a fine venue sound. As @Richard R says above, YouTube compresses heavily and audio degrades with reduced video quality. Also the DAC and headphone amp of the average computer are pretty basic which further affects the audio. Unfortunately most parishioners won't have a Focusrite or similar DAW with a decent set of cans :( Certainly worth checking with the sound team and seeing what they can do with EQ to help you in the mix :) On another note, had my first recorded session (four songs) at church last night - look forward to hearing the results. Due to some last minute key changes I was delving lower on the 5-string than normal and that typically does not come through well on the livestream. And having practiced all the songs in faster/upbeat mode they were performed as slow/quiet...still, good to challenge the timings and note feel. And when asked to sit out for the first two verses I simply play them but with the tuner mute on to keep in the game!
