  1. Now THAT'S a worship bass prayer!
  2. Will do - and remember, it's unlikely any mistakes will be noticed by the band, and *really* unlikely they will be noticed by the congregation. A bit like improv jazz...
  3. My old Toyota Auris/Corolla would take a 2x15, bass, head, pedal bag with the seats folded down. My Yaris takes a 2x10, head, bass, pedals. In both cases keeping the passenger seat free/useable. I suspect you can't go wrong if the vehicle name matches the bass: or even
  4. Dave bought a Sean Hurley P bass from me - excellent communications, fast payment and a top chap all round. Highly recommended buyer
  5. Thanks for all the recommendations! I've made a YouTube playlist with all the tracks so far: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2nhCmYKWmUJ47nYau5y81fRD6IOrQ_Ze
  6. For sale only: Fender Custom Shop Sean Hurley '61 Precision (2019), £2750 This is my second Fender Custom Shop Sean Hurley signature ’61 precision - I had sold my first one (in charcoal frost) to the mighty @Old Man Riva , who had prophetically wondered if I was sure - as I would miss it! Indeed Mick was right, and so when this one appeared secondhand at Bass Direct I snapped it up. Specs and condition It has a slab rosewood board, 1.75” nut width, 7.25” radius. Weight is 3.98kg. Full specs in the 'floorwalker' photo below. Relic-ing is on the back of the neck only, meaning it’s beautifully smooth and fast. The nitro finish on the body has some level faint ‘crackle’ lines but is otherwise un-reliced. Strangely when it arrived from Bass Direct the rocker mute was on the wrong way around (!), which has left a faint mark I’ve tried to capture in the photo - not noticeable unless you look closely. The rocker mute is a nice feature to toggle between muted/unmuted quickly, and is adjustable in terms of pressure applied to the strings. Personally I’ve left it ‘firmly on mute’ recently as I’ve been practicing Jamerson lines. I love the playability with the stock La Bella light flats, and it pairs beautifully with my Noble pre. Case has a couple of scuffs (see pics), but otherwise in excellent condition with keys and case candy including unworn Fender strap. A splendid bass, but having picked up a gorgeous Marleaux sixer for solo playing, and not gigging, it must make way! And yes, I will miss it Courier delivery (UK only) @£15, or come and test in Kent (approx, 20 min from J5 M25, near to Tonbridge/Maidstone). Payment by BACS or PayPal (buyer pays fees) My feedback thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235157-kevsy71/ Pics Some demos of this general model - they sound very simlar to mine (except the playing!) A nice 'unmuted test': The man himself (with mute) …and without And a comprehensive test from Bruno Tauzin’s excellent “Bruno Bass” You Tube channel:
  7. @fretmeister sorry this is the best I can do for now, the glossy snap that Thomann kindly included! Will take some more for the (late) NBD post...
  8. Oh yes - thanks for the reminder, will do a NBD thread tomorrow. A beauty to look at and play!
  9. Just to add I had a good experience buying a Marleaux 6 string from Thomann last month: no hidden fees, so one-payment to them and all duties/fees taken care of. Also they were very helpful when I phoned in panic when I realised that had my old address on file! Their courier (DHL) are not the best with tracking though, at least at the moment - I had that same problem on another recent purchase - but Thomann had TRIPLE-boxed the bass for safe delivery!
  10. Many thanks! Great tip about singing the intervals - although those in earshot may not be as appreciative
  11. Thanks for taking the time to post that, very useful and I'll certainly put the tips into practice!
  12. I've just acquired a lovely Marleaux Consat 6 for chords, higher-register melodies, soloing, and other fun: I'd appreciate any thoughts from the 6-string players here on learning / practice drills. As it's my first 6, I've been concentrating on learning the fretboard first: major chord tones in the circle of 4ths, starting each on the B string frets 1-12, then starting on the B between 12 and 24, then repeat for each string: calling out each note as I play it. Next I intend to do the same but performing the circle with minor chord tones, dominant 7ths, 7b5's. Then major and minor pentatonics. Does that sound sensible? I'm not sure how or when to approach chords or if there is any reference or guide available. Any tips or links would be very welcome: so far I've been following Johnny Cox's excellent guides at https://johnnycoxmusic.com/tag/6-string/ Many thanks!
  13. Very well-played Phil! Also enjoyed your 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' that's linked at the end - amazing I've just acquired a 6-string so have been plotting my favourite route around the fretboard for the Prelude...I'm almost fluent up to bar 11 but only if I slow down in parts (I prefer that over the fixed tempo, with apologies to Mr Bach!)
  14. "gelatinous slime.....plasmodial zycogastria" is surely a Carcass song title in waiting.
  15. Exactly my experience Stu - huge fan of the first 3 albums, Cliff's playing on Ride the Lightning got me into bass (Arbiter Ricky copy in fireglo!), I had massive expectations for AJFA but I just found most of it overlong, overdone and frankly boring. Re-listening today, I love Blackened and Harvester of Sorrow, and enjoy Eye of the Beholder and To LIve is to Die (naturally) but the rest does nothing for me. Whereas I still listen to Ride the LIghtning and Master of Puppets regularly.
  16. I've just started learning Bach's Cello Suite No 1 in G major - Prelude, and assumed it would require more than 4 strings and 21 frets. Until I saw this: I love this playing from Fabian Wendt, and his use of articial harmonics for the notes above 21st fret (Eb) led me to this excellent explanation from Johnny Cox: https://johnnycoxmusic.com/artificial-harmonics-bass/ It'll be a while until I get to those bars though, still trying to nail bar 7
  17. Just spotted that you can import PDF in the free 'Muse Score' notation application, may be worth a go.
  18. Anything by Scientist, especially: Heavyweight Dub Champion (1980) Big Showdown at King Tubby's (1980) – with Prince Jammy Scientist Meets the Space Invaders (1981) Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires (1981)
  19. I have fun attempting these with a pick : Highway Star - Deep Purple Nancy Boy - Placebo Riding Bikes - Shellac Pump It Up - Elvis Costello & The Attractions Dancing in the Moonlight - Thin Lizzy
  20. Practice is the cure for GAS

    1. lownote

      lownote

You mean practice as in regularly buying equipment, of course?

    2. Cat Burrito

      Cat Burrito

The musicians I admired all regularly practiced and I am embarrassed to say it took me almost 3 decades to work out why they were better! I do at least an hour a day these days and my playing has skyrocketed. I'm not sure it has fixed my desire for new gear though...

  21. As the original owner it's one of the few basses I regret having to sell...hope you're enjoying it as much as I did!
  22. Recently posted on YouTube: tight band with a tasty bass solo on a vintage BT 5
  23. I'd consider it at £14,500 if it immediately made me nail every Jamerson line*. But then I'd miss the decades of fun practicing them! * and if I actually had £14,500 in the first place
