1. Strange, I used to hold Dunlop in some pretty high regards. Octave pedals should not need a noise gate..
  2.
The pedal is available with a second footswitch to turn the hate on and off if needed too.
Always good to turn the hate off!

    Delay pedals

Ah, delay! My favorite type of effect! Basically, what separates the big ones from the small ones is tap tempo (which is extremely useful). Tap tempo allows you to set your delay time to however fast you tap your foot, allowing you to set a certain time depending on how fast the drummer plays. I would suggest investing in a tap tempo delay. Here are a few: TC Electronic Nova Repeater/Delay/Delay IB Mod Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy/Deluxe Memory Man 550/Deluxe Memory Man 1100/Memory Man w/ Hazarai Akai E2 Headrush My favorite out of these is the Nova Delay IB. It's modded for a better bypassed sound, but still has all the features of the Nova Delay (tap tempo, tape and analog delay imitation, etc.) and is quite versatile.
  4. Wait, you bought a non-tube Markbass? What's the point? The tubes are the best part!
  5.
This makes me want to do a side project with Oli! Amazing live act!!!
I think if you tried that the combined amount of effects would explode the minds of all your audience members.
  6. This makes me want to play in a guitar/bass + drums duo now.. but I don't know any drummers..
  7.
Still awaiting my perspex to make an Al Bling base. Hoping it arrives today. I have though, made some mods & added some Boss/Moog style knobs. Having turned my Ibby into a passive bass with volume, tone & pick up blend knobs, I had a spare hole & thought I'd put it to use. I've put a 100k pot where the EQ switch was & wired it to a stereo jack socket (which is where the audio jack was on the bass) & put a mono socket on the backplate for the audio. Now I can control a moog parameter from the bass. Playing about with LFO rate & Envelope slope on the Bass Murf, & Envelope amount on the LPF. Pics to follow when I get the bling.
That sounds AWESOME. That would make it incredibly easy to change the wobble rate on the fly.. hmm..
  8.
Thanks for that, it's really useful and I think cracked my problem- I'm a lefty playing a righty. The left hand I have no problem with, barre chords I picked up pretty easily- but the right hand is all over the place as it's my weaker hand. I seem to be able to get away with it mucking around with an acoustic but electric really struggle with. Maybe I should just turn it upside down!
Keep playing righty, TRUST ME. There are NO guitars out there for lefties.
  9. For the flanger, you just need a box with two 'ins' and one 'out', or a merger. Just hook the Akai to one input and the flanger's stereo out to the other, and then hook up the regular input of the amp to the output of the merger. Simple.
  10. Before you do anything, change all of your cables, one by one, with a cable that you KNOW doesn't hum. Test the sound each time. If the hum goes away when you use the 'control' cable, that's the one that's causing the problem. If it's not the cables, it's definitely the daisy chain thing you have going on. How does that work exactly?
  11. I'm pretty sure that's natural, I get that same kind of sound from my Bass Big Muff. Right after I play a note, the fuzz goes away somewhat, and then it comes back as I sustain the note. I can't really tell if anything's happening on your samples, sorry..
  12.
My board idea so far: The MT-2 isn't mine, it's just here before it gets whisked off to it's owner (Though i do have one, that's somehow totally dead, and i'm watching one on Ebay). Going to get a board over the weekend and i've got my eye on a Marshall Jackhammer on Ebay as well. Running the MT-2 into the BDI-21 gives me nice, heavily distorted Hysteria (The Muse song) style tone that sounds absolutely beautiful but it's nasty (In a good way). Liam
Can you put up an audio sample of that sound? I've always wanted to hear a good use of an MT-2 on bass..
  13. At school right now, can't really have a good discussion until I get home. I think I'll go ahead and buy a BEF Pro, play around with it, and see how it works out. ..I wish there was a compressor with one knob for the base volume and one for the limiting volume..
  14. After a recent influx of money from selling things, I finally have some to spend on effects. I'm intending to go into dubstep, particularly. Now, I want to know exactly what effects I should be getting. Here's what I've figured out so far: Envelope Filter (I'm going to use the Source Audio BEF Pro w/ Hot Hand) Compressor (This will allow me to use the BEF Pro more effectively; to manipulate the filter I must use my playing hand, so I'll have to play with hammer-ons. The compressor will bring those up to the same level as my normal playing, and not make my normal playing incredibly loud. However, I have no idea what exact pedal to use for this.. any suggestions? I'm thinking about using the Boss CS-2) Octave (Boss OC-2, for sub-bass) Distortion (Probably the WMD Geiger Counter, but I don't know for sure) So two things: 1. Would that work well? 2. Can someone recommend a compressor and a distortion for what I want? Thanks in advance.
  15. Maybe a compressor (don't know any good ones), tube amp (I recommend the Orange Bass Terror), a fuzz (lots of good ones, like the EHX ones and the Wren and Cuff ones) and an overdrive like the Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B that works well with tube amps. Also, a wah pedal could potentially be incredibly awesome. The Vox wah works pretty well imo. Not sure about the quality of fleabasses, but if it works for you..
  16.
Hi all, I am wondering if there is one company out there which you think stands out amongst the huge number of companies making them now, in terms of quality components, built quality and of course tone of their 1590A size effects. I am specifically after a good distortion or overdrive(maybe as an alternative to SFX), and octave down pedal, a bit crusher kind of thing(maybe an alternative to the malekko BIT) , and envelope filter(auto wah) and maybe a chorus. pedals in 1590A format. Feed back would be greatly appreciated.
http://www.danielzink.com/ makes some nice 1590A pedals.
  17. You should be fine as long as the buggers at airport security don't open it up for explosives. Silly Americans..
  18.
The internal trim pot allows you to configure how long (or short) the delay of the effect is.
...Internal trim pot...? Well, looks like I was stupid enough not to open the thing up after all this time..
  19.
Thanks Eskimo, So the way you play doesn't affect the filter at all. Just the pedal?
Yup, it's bypassed until you move the pedal forward. Now, I have one of the 105's myself, and the one thing I don't like about it is that there's a short delay in your signal when you turn it on or off (by moving the pedal just a little forward). It kind of buzzes or hums a little during this transition, instead of going instantly off. Also, it doesn't have a huge effect on bass. For a more noticable effect, I suggest a low pass filter, especially one you can control with an expression pedal. Low pass filters cut off the highs of the signal as you pull the pedal back; it's especially effective after a fuzz, overdrive, distortion, or just a very sharp/mid-heavy bass signal.
  20. Polytune is much easier to use, the display is very clear and bright. Works well in sunlight apparently, haven't really gotten a chance to test.
  21.
Boss oc2 + iron ether oxide. Works well.
this.
  22. And I thought Shep had a lot of gear.. My head hurts now, thaaaanks guys.
  23.
Funny you should say that...
Should be seriously awesome.
  24.
Thanks mate. The response to these has been great... and I've actually be contacted by a couple of guys rather than contacting them. I have another 12 interviews out there being completed and back-and-forthing with people at the mo to publish over the next few months. All good. Real cool of guys like Chris & Ryan etc to take time out to go into detail over what they do...
Epic interview. Now I just want to see one of Taylor Livingston..
