The distortion on the Boss pedal sounds pretty good, actually. I haven't played with it in awhile though because the knobs don't do anything for some reason..

I swear [i]at[/i] my bass! On a more serious note (no pun intended) my favorite basses have been Squiers. Not too expensive, but once in awhile you find a really sharp sounding one, and if it's set up and [i]stays[/i] set up you know it's a good one.
