1.
Lock function - really good idea! I wonder if that can be retro-fitted to EVERY guitar pedal to stop the tweaking inbetween songs?
That's impossible, you know guitarists have to tweak.. Very interesting pedal though. To me it sounds a little like the WMD Fatman, but I'm guessing you can probably change all the parameters of it to make it sound completely different. Definitely a contender for the envelope filter market alongside the Fatman, the Moog, and the Xero. The only problem I have with it is that it's a bit hard to hear the actual note coming through, so you'd probably have to clean-bend it for practical bass use.
  2. Found a thread on talkbass that says he uses this thing: http://www.dbxpro.com/120A/specs.php However, I'm not sure how reliable the info is, and I have no idea how that thing would sound on bass..
  3.
Don't worry about that! That said... I have one interview in the pipeline with someone who's set up at least doubles Justin's!?!?
This I need to see..
  4.
Well the plan isn't to interview bigger and bigger artists. It's to interview artists with interesting and complex effects set ups. I have some awesome stuff in the pipeline at the mo, some of which folks will never of heard of - but mega interesting all the same. I will keep trying to track down Justin Chancellor though
If you get Mr. Chancellor, just remember to ask him to explain all of his signal chain..

    Digitech Whammy 5

I've played it through a guitar once.. unfortunately I wasn't really paying much attention to how it responded. I find it doesn't sound as 'glitchy' as the Whammy 1 on the monophonic mode, but it tracks really well on chords on poly. I didn't notice any delay between what I was playing and what came out of the amp, so in that respect it has something over my XP-100. Overall I'd say it sounded pretty natural.
  6.
AAAAAAND a whole lot more than that.
Anything involving harmony is useful for tons of things, of course.
  7.
It all came out on TalkBass - seemed like the initial pedals had a number of issues with noise and simply weren't being built to the high standard expected (like cheap noisy power sections etc.). Now I do not know this from first hand experience so take it with a pinch of salt (especially as I've played with a FayeSing myself and loved everything about it), but it may be worth looking around on TB first for reviews before you dump a shedload of cash on one. That said, it looks incredible and if my actual experience is anything to go by it's going to be incredible!
Ah, well you know what they say about Talkbass.. I think it'd be great for thickening up a bassline during guitar solos, if you don't have a rhythm player.
  8.
Does look amazing. Fingers crossed it isn't plagued with the same issues which the Second Voice suffered from.
What kind of... issues?
  9. http://www.infanem.com/harmonysynthesizer/ Anyone here heard of this? Looks amazing. "Expect its return in 2012 with CV capabilities and many other improvements." Hopefully soon..

    Uprising effect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UofS3bfyFeU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcbbtewVog0 This series shows it pretty well. He explains his gear in the first vid and demos Uprising in the second I believe.
  11.
This is slightly out of our vocalists comfort spot haha! I played him some deftones to prove that metal wasn't all just white noise and he nearly fell off his chair!
Now that you mention Deftones.. you could do some stuff from White Pony and the new album, as long as you don't mind tuning to "drop-whatever".. I suggest Change, Beauty School, Sextape, 976-EVIL, and This Place is Death. Probably not exactly the 'ballad' you're looking for though.. On the same 'not-exactly-ballad' note, here's a few more.. alternative choices: (songs separated by commas) Little Black Submarines - Black Keys El Mañana, Every Planet We Reach is Dead, Melancholy Hill - Gorillaz Dani California, Snow, Stadium Arcadium, Strip My Mind, Wet Sand - RHCP You Only Live Once, Under Cover of Darkness - The Strokes Headlights - Morning Parade Sweet Disposition, Fader - Temper Trap The High Road, The Ghost Inside - Broken Bells Chop Suey!, Aerials - SOAD Stinkfist, H., The Patient, Vicarious, The Pot - Tool Hope this helps.. I apologize for my less 'classic' music taste!
  12.
How about a chat with Talkbass's very own Proton Lenny? I give you, Zach Rizer... Shep on Bass - Interview: Zachary Rizer Zach Rizer is the bass player for Mouth - The synthy, funky, bass-tastic party band from Kansas City, USA. Awesome technique, awesome gear, awesome sounds... basically makes for an awesome interview!
Incredible! I absolutely must know what was used at the end of the "Theme from the End of the World" video.. at about 10:30. Sounds massive.
  13.
Ha.... The Xero was built to spec to replace the Moog. I tested a regular Xero out to ensure the tone would fit (in places I kinda prefer the Moog tone, but the Xero works great for the music) but importantly the IE pedal is totally noise free. Silent as a mouse. The Moog unfortunately rapes my noise floor having all those pedals before it and I need to use noise gates and make some compromise to get tr best from it. The custom Xero needs to go back for more tweaking soon (it was the 1st Taylor had made like this with 3 CV controls so some tweaking was expected) but I'm very happy with it. Freight would be mad, though NC would be amazing (Moog, Roscoe & Krispy Kreme!!). Aberdeen would rock as well. Hook us up with a promoter that will pay enough to cover travel and make a few quid an we'll happily visit either!
Ah.. I think I personally shall be starting off with a Moog. More traditional. Moog, Roscoe, Krispy Kreme, some of the best BBQ you've ever eaten, Pepsi.. Promoters are the hard part! Fortunately, I actually know one, so I might just get lucky..
  14.
It's a sign. Come to [s]Aberdeen[/s] Central N.C. first
15. Can't believe no one's mentioned this yet: http://www.silvermac...de/en/quake.htm They're pretty rare, but pretty awesome from what I've heard. Musician's Friend link: http://www.musicians...board-wah-pedal Aaaaaand here's the official website: http://www.silvermachine.de/en/merlin.htm Appears to have an address at the bottom: "Musician Sound Design, Lindenstr. 32, 50674 Köln, Deutschland." 16.
Sometimes. The loops mixer swaps between A and B with one switch and enables both in parallel with the other. I often play a line with the noise channel and then kick in the 'sub' underneath it when it builds up.
Sounds awesome. I see you've gotten rid of the Moog LPF in favor of the Iron Ether.. is it that good?! You guys have to come to the US sometime.. play some shows.
  17.
Referencing the accents and the stereotypes. I've lived in Raleigh and Myrtle Beach. I've never met friendlier people than the people in the Carolinas. Sincerely.
Yup, friendly right up until you mention politics or religion... sigh We do have some great BBQ over here, though.
  18.
Due to have a number of changes recently I thought I'd write this up for those interested in the exact workings of my board... Shep on Bass - My Signal Chain Explained I think that just about covers it all!! Pics taken at a music video shoot yesterday:
One question.. do you run both the sub and noise loops at the same time?
  19.
You'll save a ton by buying the bits 2nd hand. Stuff like Powerstations crop up all the time for cheap. If you need and straight George L's let me know as I have loads spare if you want a few cheap (pending on postage costs to your side of the world of course!).
Got it, to Ebay and BC classifieds it is!
Sounds like a good start mate! You may find a Diago alternative a little cheaper in the states though - might I suggest you start scouring for pedals on the TB classifieds. SHUUUSH DON'T LET THE SECRET OUT! There's a cheap powerstation on here at the moment actually... might have already gone though, wouldn't surprise me at the price it was listed It wasn't Diago, it was changing European regulations that put a stop to it. Apparently they're tweaking the design to fall in compliance with the rules and then their going to start production again... well that's what I heard a few months ago anyway.
Johnnyshredfreak.. got it. Can't seem to find on Ebay/google, but I'll keep an eye out on here for pedals, PSU's, etc. Let's do this!
  20.
what is that weird blue pedal Eskimo?
I believe it's a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. In other, more personal news, I have finally decided to start on a pedalboard with most likely a Polytune, a Phat Phuk B, a BB Bass Preamp, an OC-2, and most likely an Oxide, on a Diago board with a Powerstation and hooked up with George L's. Now that I've said it on here, I can't change my mind again! I hope. ...just added it up and it's $1095 altogether. Wish me luck!

  22.
The new board in action last Thursday (snapped by a friend in the audience...)
Flashing lights, the most important part of any setup. I remember when it was fashionable on this thread to do 'night shots'.. always loved those.
  23.
I can now see tuning on stage This really wasn't worth a thread.
Pretty lights though. I'll admit though, I don't know scratch about areas of England..

  25.
Box on the left is a Human Gear Animato clone. Seems to sound pretty like the real one (I believe). Loops are a) OC2 - Animato b)Oxide - BEF - Xenograph. Just to allow me to get the sounds in my head. The Xenograph has missing knobs? As far as i know everythings on it! (it's just the std one - not deluxe). Feels weird not having a board which weighs more than me!
Ahh, standard, makes sense now. I've gotta look up this clone, don't want to pay a crazy amount for the real one..
