1. Well, well, well ... came across this thread again yesterday, and now look what I've spotted on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200458151195
 2.
double soundpost almost kills the Bass acoustically but has even more of an effect on reducing feedback
If the bass becomes that accoutically dead ... would there be a detectable difference between that and an EUB ?
 3.
Check out my band:
If you weren't so far away I might just do that ... nice work
 4.
I couldn't do it to the duck, I took Bassman2790's advice instead, the bass has now been turned into firewood. As you can see the wife is very happy about it.
On the assumption that was a joke .... give it to a school or something. Or put it on your local freecycle ... http://groups.freecycle.org/SuffolkFreecycle/posts/all . Last time I looked at freecycle, cheeky barstewards saying "Wanted: Bass Guitar" were not that uncommon, so it should go quick.
 5. Verrry nice ... but 30 watts ? There's one tiny venue I go to where I take a 90 watt amp ... but I can't imagine using anything as low as 30. What's the context ? Big Band lineup ? Acoustic guitars ? Andy
 6.
His playing is immense on the album and I know you say that he used a different bass for the recording but it's still a thrill to see this one listed!
Yeah ... bass is a nice proposition on it's own, but with the history .... that is possibly the best of Eryka Badu's albums, and he's a very tasteful player. Shame I don't have the requisite dosh. Andy
 7. Thanks ... I had no idea such a thing as a 'temperature-controlled solder station' existed Andy
 8. Who was after a Deep 5 ? There's a very nice and reasonably priced on on ebay right now -- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250601957732 It's on Buy It Now (no auction) so don't hang about. (I've no connection with the seller, just obsessed with RA's if you can't tell) Andy
 9.
I believe one way Lakland do stop people making a Skyline look like a US is that US necks don't fit Skyline bodies.
Seriously ? Andy
 10. Well I think that's done .... the center tag on the pot seemed loose ... and I re-soldered both tags anyway. Don't think I did a quality job, though, due to the feeble soldering iron I have. Any recommendations on soldering irons ... particular the wattage suitable for this kind of repair ? Andy
 11. Surprised at this given the comments above:
£1,550.00 - Reserve not met
12.
Ok, does 19mm sound right? Did it with a tape measure, hard to find centre of 2 strings exactly. Cheers John
I think there's a page on the status website that defines the standard spacing for 5-strings as 18mm. So, it's possible you have a non-standard one (perhaps all groove 5's were 19mm ?) but I think it's marginally more likely you mis-measured a bit and it's actually 18mm. ( Found the page http://web.archive.org/web/20050226164511/...te/basstech.htm -- obviously (from the archive.org url) since deleted from the status site itself ... the page may be contemporary with your groove or not, I don't know) Andy
 13. Unbeatable looks (IMHO) for a fretless precision. If only it had 5 strings <* dreams *> ... good luck with the sale.
 14.
i use this one... http://www.normans.co.uk/p-439-stentor-156...WELAID=98315418 even on gigs, no accidents yet
That's the one I've got, and I'm happy with it. (Though it's not exactly 'compact' for gigs ... goes with the territory, I guess) Andy
 15.
I love a bit of Deep 5. I would LOVE a Deep 5. If you ever go to a bass bash with it will you let me know? I would love to try one.
Will do. When is the next bass bash in the South East anyway ? Andy
 16. Re: raising action Does your EUB have neck-tilt feature ? Suspect it's unlikely, it looks like the neck is solidly built in. Truss rod adjustment ? ...no, forget that, probably not going to help at the dusty end of the fingerboard. Is the bridge fixed to the body ? If not you could try raising the height with shims maybe ?
 17. Nice 4-string Rob Allen MB-2 on eBay right now for anyone interested -- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270546949433 (I have no connection with the seller) Andy
 18. Just noticed Sandarc and Martyn Bailey must be within a few miles of each other. Coincidence ? Or is there a relationship ? Looks like a nice day out to visit both anyway
 19.
It looks realy elegant next to the clunky Fender.
I really like the fender too ... in fact that's just about my perfect fretless 'P'. Andy
 20.
OK - Here's some pics of the Gedo Musik 4/4 solid wood bass ...
That's a lovely looking bass
 21.
I think it could be that it's a rock/blues bass with a jazzers neck, so it's going to appeal to a smaller market. I know this is a crude generalisation, but Precisions are great for straight up no nonsense bass playing and fretless necks require high levels of technical ability, and that may be the problem.
This doesn't disprove your point or anything, but a counter-example to that is Boz Burrell in Bad Company, using (I'm pretty sure) a fretless precision alongside an Ampeg. Andy
 22. What's the string spacing at the bridge on this ? Andy
 23.
that's the one from the fret less thread.
There's a fretless thread in the porn section ? I couldn't find it. Link ? Andy
 24.
The electronics are mind boggling! It's a John East U-Retro that has been customised. Starting from the stacked knob by the bridge pickup, the controls are: Master volume (top) Magnetic/piezo balance (bottom) Treble cut/boost w/bright switch (top) Bass boost (bottom) Mid cut/boost (top) Mid frequency (bottom) Piezo Magnetic balance Passive tone w/active / passive switch Needless to say it's very flexible tonal and i'm sure I haven't come close to experiencing all the options it has.
No coil tap or series/parallel option ? You were short-changed there.
 25.
This has just reminded me of an idea I had to try and cure overly trebly response, finger noise and too long sustain all in one (thinking of my EUB here) Will drop into the hardware shop later and let you know if the idea works.
See separate thread HERE Andy
