1.
Couldn't make out the bassist but it looked like the guy from Medeski Martin and Wood !
THAT made me look again (being a huge Chris Wood fan). But I don't think it's him - wrong visual style. Could be wrong. Funnilly enough this review references Chris Wood as a composer http://is.gd/4Ww5F but I think that's Chris Wood the folkie, not Chris Wood the bass player ( http://www.last.fm/music/Chris+Wood/+wiki ) And, yes, I have taken into consideration than Chris Wood (the bassist) plays a Czech-Ease. Andy
 2. Here's one example of a percussion table. http://is.gd/4UOin
 3. No specific help here, but there must be some options around. Reggie Watts (who does a one-man-band act with just his voice and a looper) uses one. From memory that was half a mic-stand with a platform on top. A guy I used to play with had a platform that attached halfway up a mic stand that he used for capo, slide and the like. When I wanted my Bass Pod high up I bought their (bass-pod specific) stand which works both for amp top and for mic-stand. ALSO do a search for percussion stands (maybe they're called tables) ... percussionists/drummers use them to lay down the Guiros/Tambourines/Maracas they're not using. Padded top. I definitely found those for sale online at one of the usual places (gear4music possibly). Considered one of those when I was looking for a gigging solution for my Bass Pod Andy
 4.
Damn, I really want this, I have a fretless natural mahogany version.
I get all nostalgic when I see these basses. When my first (proper) bass (p-bass) was nicked in 1980 or thereabouts I spent AGES in shops figuring out what I wanted to spend the insurance money on. The two main contenders were a particular Guild B-302 and some kind of precision. The precision won out in the end (still have that), but I spent so much time on the Guild it's almost like I owned one. Given my current taste in basses (fretless and five-stringed) the one that's for sale isn't for me ... but I'd still like to hear/play a fretless one. Maybe at a bass bash somewhere ? Anyway ... after that irrelevant ramble ... have a bump on me. Andy
 5. I like the sound ... and the tune ... the video is a nice find. Anyone want to hazard a guess at the kind of strings she uses ? That mellow sound is definitely what I'm aiming for ... sounds a bit different to the spiro weichs I'm used to (but I guess it could also be pickup, recording techinique, her technique ... the bass too ...) Andy
 6. What's the pickguard on that stealth p-bass ? And what's the finish come to that ... looks kind of matt ? Andy
Looked a twat if you ask me.

At no time did I refer to Mr Sumner as a "twat".
For the record I do about 5 times a day.
Don't hit me with no negative vibes, baby!
 8.
I'd like to put a good word in for D'Addario Chromes. If I've ever needed replacements for my usual 1st choice of La Bellas, the 45-105 Chromes have provided a very close match (and would seem to be readily available).
Thanks for that. Andy
 9. Thanks for the tip ... I may experiment with GHS sometime, sounds like they might be my kind of string. Andy
 10. No idea about the player, but I'm pretty certain the bass is a Czech-Ease -- http://www.czech-ease.com/ Andy
 11.
I think we have had so many of these threads, I think the general conclusion is.
Time for the mods to make this a sticky topic then ? Andy
 12. Stringbusters wrote:
Hello Andy, We have an order in with La Bella at the moment which we were hoping to get later this month, but we aren't likely to see it this side of Christmas now (they shut down their factory every December). The stock we get in does generally last around three months but we sold out a bit faster this time around. We do buy direct from La Bella and have done for the last six or seven years; but in order to get the best prices we have to have a minimum order, plus they actually make the stock fresh for each order, rather than keep it sitting around in warehouses - those are the two factors that lead to some of the La Bella range being out of stock for a long time. We will keep a note that you're after some and as soon as they land we'll let you know, but if you need them urgently you might have to consider ordering them wherever possible in the meantime. Kind regards, Adam @ Stringbusters
13. There's plenty of pictures on google images ... http://is.gd/4Qp2C ... that should give you something till the owner posts his own.
 14. Covering all bases now ... my wanted ad is up and I've mailed stringbusters asking when they'll be back in stock and referencing this thread ... it'll be interesting to see what they say. Andy

 16. Levy's leathers make a suede strap that excellent for this. May not cure severe imbalance but certainly helped with one recent bass I bought that had neck dive tendencies. You can get them online too ... my last one was from soundslive.co.uk, though google shopping may turn up other possibilities. Andy
 17.
I bought some LaBellas from US recently - I posted about this on BC a couple of weeks back in angry old git mode as good old HM Excise charged me VAT and a disproportionate processing fee which took a £30 eBay order up to something like £45 all-in
If I do order from the US I'm going to make it a few sets ...that way I hope postage and processing fees will be less significant ... though I know it will make no difference to the 40%-odd (VAT+excise) that will get wacked on top of US price and postage combined. Andy
 18. Beedster, your knowledge of what goes on here is encyclopaedic ... Thanks 2 PMs sent Andy
 19. Can't go wrong with the boss stomp, the white one ... TU-2 I think
 20. @wot - import charges: already noted. Last time I looked at importing labella tape-wounds, the postage alone looked set to double the cost. Okay .... is there any flat that comes close to labellas .... e.g. fender, picato, pyramid, GHS .... whatever ? Andy
 21.
You may need to try them both to see what you like better, although I'd say either would work. I much prefer the TIs which are nickel and looser tension wise. The La Bellas are steel (I think) and much tenser. It's a while since I played any La Bellas but IIRC the TI's have a more middy sound. You might also want to consider Pyramid Golds.
Can anyone compare Pyramid Golds and Labellas for me ? Andy
 22. Thanks Chris, very helpful. Looks like I might be ordering Labellas from the U.S. then. Andy
 23.
The current La Bella shortage is driving me insane. Bass Doc has helped me out for the moment, thankfully...
So what's happening ... is the importer not bringing them in ? Is the answer to order from the US ? Or is the shortage related to Labella's output ? And can anyone suggest alternatives ? Like, are rotosound flats pretty close in sound ? (I've never tried both brands on the same bass) Andy
 24.
I'm thinking of going flats myself and couldn't find these in the UK - try thomann -
Thanks, should have thought of that ... but unfortunately no luck there either.
