1. Hey guys. Up for sale is my 5 String Jazz bass parts bass. The Bass body is a Solid 2 Peice Spalt/flame maple body. Made by Basschats very own Chopthebass. Its a gorgeous Piece of wood. Really nicely shaped and not very heavy at all! I have installed a Twin Battery compartment which leads to the spacious control cavity. Inside the Cavity is an expensive and Rare Schack three band Pre-amp (Note these are not made anymore) The pre-amp has three sets of mini switches on the circuit board for even more tonal range. These are the pre-amps that are put in high end Fodera basses. It is currently running on 18volts however the pre-amp is also designed to handle up to 24volts if you so wished. -Bass (100-300Hz via dip switches) ±15dB -Middle (500-1500Hz via dip switches) ±15dB -Treble (2000-8000Hz via dip switches) ±18dB -Adjustable pickup input gain http://www.thebassgallery.com/schackelecy.html The pickups are some nice Bartolini Jazz bass pups. They have a very piano like tone. Roll the bridge off and it sounds like a hot Jaco bass. Add the neck and you have a thundering sound. Also installed is an Active/Passive Switch AND a Kill Switch. The controls are as follows. Balance, Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble. The Control plate is a strat style plate which is securely mounted on the back of the control plate. It is angled so that you can easily thread the lead through your strap pins without stretching your cable unneccesarily. Currently The Balance pot is just a normal Linear pot, This means that there are only three positions Bridge solo, Neck solo and both pickups full on. This can be replaced with a Proper Balance pot (About 3 quid) to acheive full balance controls. The control knobs also need a bit of a clean and i am missing a matching one (I have placed a mismatched one on in the pictures to show what the bass could look like.) The neck is a high quality Mighty Mite 5 string P bass neck, Maple with rosewood board. 4/1 headstock (This style of headstock is no longer made by MightyMite). The original truss rod was not man enough for the job and had the 4mm rod taken out and a 6mm rod inserted and is far far better. The frets have been filed and dressed. The neck is straight and true. Connecting the neck is counter sunk neck bolts. And the heel is contoured for extra comfort. The bridge is a high quality/mass Schaller 5 string bass bridge. And Schaller lightweight tuners. All in stunning black. The string tree is also black and of high quality. Dunlop Straplocks have also been installed. The bass comes with a quality Kinsman Hardcase. I will also through in a nice leatherette strap with the dunlop pins installed. And the pictures. Its taken me a long time and heartache to get this bass sorted out. It took forever to setup but now is perfect to play. Apart from mismatched control pots and the balance pot it is brilliant. The pre-amp/pickup combo is top notch. I received the parts in a part ex and I have spent £245 overall on repairs/setup and installation. This is a Fantastic bass, Built from premium parts and with a low action. Not a mark on her, Has not been played for more then a few hours. As such there is no wear to this bass. The bass was assembled by Tom Waghorn of Waghorn guitars in Bristol. http://www.waghornguitars.co.uk I would recommend this bass for any Funk/Rockstars. The slap tones to die for! I would like £600 Collected + 20 quid with postage, I am willing to haggle. Trades welcome I am interested in most things pm me with any offers. Anyone who lives close to Bristol is welcome to try it out at any time. Cheers guys. Rob.
2. My '85 Buzzes all over the place. Have tried twisting the trust rod but it just gets worse!
3. Anyone got any hanging around? Will obviously pay for postage and maybe a little for the games. Might be a long shot but nice to try Rob.
4. Coming from an ex guitarist, I would keep one bass and sell the rest. However this depends on how attached you are to the basses. In the end, they are tools in my eyes, If you dont have the tools you like to play with guitarwise and wont miss the basses, I would sell the basses and buy the guitars you want. And if you were ever asked to play bass again, At least you have one left over.
5. If the item is a feeler remember that when you inquire about it it might be withdrawn, so dont get emotionally attached to that one thing. No deal is complete until cash and bass are transferred.
6. Bump reduced to 120. or 140 Shipped. Need this sold guys! This is an absolute bargain for a Quality Japanese bass with Gotoh/Dimarzio hardware!
7. I really go for it on stage, I dont move alot but i do make sure i look like i am having a good time with hair flailing around everywhere. Temporary blindness from the hair doesant really effect me unless i switching from Fingerstyle to tapping. In which case i need help! Generally the audience does not notice the bass even if accuracy is off. For example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm3yc9kgVeE...feature=related Due to contraints on the stage i cant move around a huge amount, in this song i tend to look at the neck, But i do sing on the chorus's and look like i am having fun. And in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhME5uazSOs We do a sort of Rock/Goth Tango. Where i toss the hair around alot, Dont look at the fingerboard, Sort of Dance/groove to the music. Very hard to do the tango. Either way, Even if you stand on the spot you can allways try and look interesting.
8. Arrrgh, I want this one even more! No money til end of september
9. Arrrgh This would go great with my current 5ver. I wont have the money til late september though
10.
Sorry to hear you encountered problems with the bass. I'm not sure I agree with you about the bridge being in the wrong position. I've got numerous close-up pics of the bass before Shaggy bought it. The countersunk neck ferrules are meant to come out. You don't need to glue or force them in. They were a perfect fit (got pics of the originals!). I can't comment why the neck started to play up. It was a stock Might Mite neck that just got a lacquering. It all adjusted ok when it was assembled. Nice looking bass though! Chop
This is what it looked like before the alteration. As you can see the bridge didnt align with the pickups and was at a slight angle. I know the neck furrels are meant to be like that. Anyway, It cost me about 200 quid to put the parts together and to repair. The controls on the bass are. Treble/Mid/bass/Volume/Balance/Active'Passive/Kill Switch. The Schack pre-amp can be had for about £120 from the gallery and is the only place i can find online that sells it. Rob.
11.
Mr.Shockwave, that looks great! Loads of very expensive hardware has gone into that bass. I certainly hope it sounds great! You'd pay about £1500+ if a luthier was making a bass of that quality for you!
True the bits are quite valuable.
Very, very nice indeed - well done! And there we were thinking you'd gone mad selling all your other basses... Now we can see why.
Well it was half for this project and half to get a musicman stingray 5. Something else may be added to the stable in the next couple of months, but for now i need to get this project sorted out and get some debts out the way!
12. Hey guys. I got this 5 String project in a part ex with Shaggy. It consisted of a body made by Chop the bass with a slight spalt maple figure and flame maple mix. Two solid pieces. A mighty mite 4/1 P bass neck, Maple/Rosewood. Schaller hardware, Bartolini J pickups and an uninstalled Schack Pre-amp. There has been a time put into the project. First of all the bridge had to be relocated as it was out of line with the pickups and the neck. Neck bolts were then installed counter sunk into the body which i felt came out very well. The Schack Pre-amp was really hard to get wiring instructions for and had to get it mapped out before installation. However the pre-amp is world famous for its brilliance. There is a problem with the balance pot only because it is not a balance pot at all, but a standard linear pot! The Jack socket was installed into the back plate, A standard strat plate was used and angled up to the strap pin so i can wrap the lead around it easily. The main problem with the project came when the neck was strung up with strings. The neck already had a bow, but when strings we're put on the bow became alot worse and the nut on the rod was already tight and stripped. The neck had to dissasembled and drilled into from the top and the bottom to get the truss rod out. A new one had to be installed, My luthier made one but turned out to not be man enough for the job. So instead of a 4 MM rod we had to order a 6 MM one. Neck adjustments came easy after that. The string tree was installed and a rough Truss rod cover. So whats left to be done is. Get a matching black Knob for the Treble pot. Install a decent balance pot. Here she is!
13. Oh god. I would love this.
14. I dont suppose you would want to trade for a USA BC Rich Ironbird ?
15. Wait, How come i have not recieved my student loan yet?

17.
Excuse the pun but it sounds like you've cracked it. The bridge (parallel) setting is always slightly quieter and deeper than the series (neck). Single coil should sound a bit like a jazz bridge pick-up soloed. Because you have half the number of coils it will be quieter.
Ok thanks very much! I will have to order a 5.3 when i have the money, At least i can gig with it on Wednesday! Cheers! Rob.
18. Ok well i wired it up one way. The Bridge sound is perfect MM humbucking parrelel sound, The middle position sound is quiet and dark single coil sound. The Neck position is very bright and loud humbucking sound. Is this right?. Cheers.
19.
OK Rob try this NS Red to pre-amp Red NS Green to pre-amp Green NS White to pre-amp White NS Black to pre-amp Shield If it doesn't sound right then swap over the white and black and see if its better that way.
Ok will do! Will be trying this tommorow. Cheers. Rob.
