1.
I am really pleased that the BB5000 is working out for you Rob. It needs to be played. Peter
Me too! Its pretty kick ass. The low B really grinds!
Lovely looking collection, Rob! Especially that sea foam green Attitude (I changed my first post due to asking where the Attitude pics were about 5 secs before you put them up!) Rich.
The attitude is actually brand new, The guy bought it and its one of the first of the new ones in the country. Its never been played and still had the original tags and scratchplate protective plastic.
They look very good together Rob! Also agree that you need a Jazz in that collection to finish it off
Yeah it'll take a long while til it happens though!
nice collection, you seem to have turned it totally inside out within a few months! i love that black sparkle ray, and that yamaha BB is one of the only BB series basses i've ever found attractive (black + gold = timeless classic), very nice
Yeah i am getting sick of changing all the time tbh!
 2. So after a brief flirtation with Musicmans i have kept my fave and sold the others. Heres an updated pic after my latest spending spree! Musicman Stingray 4 string with piezo pickup. Black sparkle finish, matching headstock. Bought this off of Gafbass02 Bloody lovely sound! Not classic Stingray but with alot more bite, The piezo is fantastic in a solo situation. Yamaha BB5000, 5 String old school neck thru, Japanese made. 18Volt electronics. Bought this off of Greeneking, Was the last of his 5 strings, and for good reason! Plays smooth as butter and is now my main gigging bass. Lovely Jazz/precision balance, Probably the most versatile out of all my basses. In the past day i have had two new basses come in, Although its still honeymoon period, they are looking damn good Fender 51\' Precision Reissue, Two Tone sunburst. Jap made. Got it from Floyd Pepper, Completely stock bass, Has a tremondous amount of thump (Until i put my weak man strings on) Now it zings around, Just waiting til they calm down to get a more thumpy tone, The neck is very very me. Love it Lightest out of all the basses. Yamaha Attitude II LTD (Billy Sheehan model), Jap model, Dimarzio pickups throughout, some of most complicated switching from three knobs i have ever heard (Trying to puzzle them out) However the bass just sounds like sheehan, Amazing growl, near chorus like sounds. Really really solid construction. Very well made throughout, Love the colour! This one feels real special. And all of them together. I think i have a nice balance of basses! Just need a jazz now!
 3. Great guy! Came all the way to Bristol to drop off a lovely lovely 51' precision reissue. Wish you could stay longer and chat about stuff, Sorry about the mess! -rob
 4. Nothing wrong with live pics! Non more metal! Playing whitby goth weekend. "Couples" Photoshoot, that didnt turn out that coupley!
 5. Thats an awesome peice of furniture there squire! I am glad you decided you liked 4 strings. I am loving your old BB5000 to peices
 6.
Wow, that was a big u-turn, Rob! Was the Vigier not floating your boat in the end? Really hope you enjoy the Attitude, though. Never been anything wrong with a good quality Yamaha!. Still love my TRB-6 even after two years. Continues to surpass even my high expectations! Rich.
I was very very tempted by the Vigier, However i felt the sound was very close to my musicman. Not quite but close enough that i realised i would have to sell one or the other. Also i came to realise i wanted two basses and some computer hardware, which i couldnt do if i bought the vigier. The Attitude came along and i had wanted one for a long long time, and would compliment my bb5000 well. In my short years of playing i have never ever come across a duff yammy! The 51 Reissue i have wanted for a long long time. It was unbelievable when it came up for sale at a price i couldnt refuse! I would have gone for a sting sig but i couldnt stand the inlay! Trust me, the two basses i bought i have wanted for a long time. Now all i need is a jazz bass and i have one very very well rounded out collection of basses one Humbucker, one P-J, One P-Humbucker, one Single coil p. Now all i need is a jazz and i am complete!
 7. So i used all the money now I bought a Yamaha Attitude Billy sheehan model off of ebay. 550 quids worth of computer upgrades. and a Fender 51' reissue in two tone sunburst from our very own Floyd Pepper :
 8. See you tommorow Jim! that was fast even for me! 6 minute sell
 9.
I thought you were after a bc rich custom shop, or was that Lorne?
Nope, I had one before but no more! turns out the SR4 was a 78, So i decided not to go for it. I just bought a bunch of new computer hardware. And i am sure i will going for a Yamaha Attitude billy sheehan model and maybe a gary willis fretless. Cheers guys
 10. Oh this is lovely. Very tempted, Can you see how much the neck is bowed? I only like to play with paper thin action would you say it has a low action? I am terrible at guessing prices. Do you have a ballpark figure we can work from? Cheers. Rob.
 11. Ok well, I just got off the phone. The guy has claimed that although the serial number seems like its a 77' he has had the neck off the body and confirms that it said 76 on both parts. However i will check into this if i decide i want to offer the money. I havent been able to get down to the shop today, However i will be going down on monday. The money has just gotten into my account so i am primed ready with readies!
 12.
Does it play and feel £900 better and could your existing ray benefit from a good set up for £100 and leave you with a few quid in your pocket? As I said before, if its an appreciating asset, then great, but thats not the reason to buy it. Its not a logical decision, its one that is answered from the heart [or the gut] 99.999% of people, players or audience wont tell the difference, but you will.
hehe i know all of this. The current ray has a great setup already. I know i would love this bass if i bought it. But as i mention before is near perfection worth 2000 quid?
 13.
When you say 'nicer' I'm thinking you might mean a different thing to what most people have in mind when they say 'nicer'.
Pink!
 14.
It sounds like your not overly happy with your existing Ray. So why not sell that and buy the vintage one and the Vigier.
Not at all! The current Ray is fantastic. Or at least it was before i played an older ray! As beedster says its a different animal. The neck feels more solid, The fretwire seems flatter and wider. The bass is lighter. It feels different. My current SR4 is a fantastic bass i am very happy with it. I doubt i could afford both the vigier and the old sr4. PS. As a weird aside, I dont actually like the look of stringrays, But the neck shape and the sound really ticks everybox for me. I just wish it looked nicer! Ha!
 15.
Does the old ray play as well or better than the new ray you currently own? Answer that and you've answered your question.
Yes its better in nearly everyway. The older ray has a flat battery in it and still sounded better in my ears, tommorow i will playing it with a new battery. The only way it might not be better is the looks (My current one is a lovely black sparkle with matching headstock.) And the piezo pickup (Which although useless in a band situation is pretty awesome alone) The problem is. A modern ray can cost as little as 550-600, Whereas this is more then three times the amount. Is the price of near perfection worth it -Rob.
 16. This is the thing, my current ray plays great, But this older ray plays Better and whilst my current Ray sounds like a ray, The older Ray SOUNDS like a Ray. Its hard to put my finger on it. The older ray is far lighter then my current ray. TBH the older ray is far far better then an already great bass, I am just not sure if its worth the money to get something that i kinda already have. To put it more simply, A big influence of mine is Bernard Edwards. He used a very early Ray, When i play the older Ray i feel and sound more like his lines then i do when playing the new one. I guess it just has that mojo. Plus the fret size appears different a the neck finish. Anyway, as i mentioned before i will go back tommorow and A/B it against my current Ray and way up the advantage/disadvantage. Although i know the market can go up down, i have a feeling if i miss out on this oppurtunity it might not come around again. This is alot of money and its unlikely i will come across this amount to spend on a bass again. -Rob.
 17.
What are they asking for a first year stingray? I had a '79 and loved it, but got into Sandbergs, so it went
I dont really want to say the exact price because i am not sure. I know its lower then most vintage rays have been advertised on here for.
 18. Hey guys. As many of you know i have a bit of money to push around. Heres the scoop, I could buy two very very good modern style basses, That covers the bases that the other two basses i have that doesant. For example. The vigier on the forums and the yamaha attitude on ebay. However, I may possibly have a bead on a ORIGINAL FIRST YEAR musicman Stingray. Its in pretty good nick and plays bueatifully. The value would only increase and i know i love the musicman sound. I could sell the current SR4 i have and get something else with the money as well. I dont know what to do. I love my current ray very much, But it doesant sound anywhere near as good as the older ray. This is alot of money to play around with. I am unsure of what to do, i will be going back to play the ray tommorow. -Rob.
 19. Arrgh this is too gorgeous! I think someone may win my money Pmed.
 20.
And white guard! Here we are
I'll take 'er!
 21. Wrong! Should be with a maple neck
 22.
That used to be mine, then it went to Peter(greenking)i had the fender EQ installed,it's done many great jazz gig's with me!!look after it,it's a honey!!
Its a great little bass. Any idea where the pre-amp came from? I am pretty sure the treble pot is not working correctly. Doesant really change much of the sound.
