Reuel's bass travel plan. (Shipping has now been paid for!)
Shockwave replied to Shockwave's topic in General Discussion
So let me get this straight. The over sensitive, prissy types in this forum got outraged over BBC's somewhat close to the mark posts, and effectively started a campaign to have him banned and succeeded. So now, a member steals a large ammount of money from someone half way across the world, thinking that he can get away with it and then decides to rectify the situation four months later after trying to cover his tracks, only because he had no choice but to do so. The forum response is to forgive him, blame it on his young foolishness, feel sorry for his 'problems' (which you don't even know exist, happy to take his word on that are you?), say that he shouldn't be banned from here, oh and pay the sizeable shipping costs to get the bass to its original owner for him. Right then.
Admittedly, I have to agree with this point. Well played sir. -

A few people have asked me for a TLDR (too long didnt read) version of what happened so here it is! (from my point of view) TLDR version. A guy in the phillipenes bought a warwick off of jakebass 4 months ago and paid for it Via paypal. jake decided to keep the money and the bass. 4 months down the line buyer puts a help thread up on the warwick and BC boards. Turns out i used to talk to Jake alot before this happened. I had his email address and searched for his profilel on myspace, which was private. But it was there. I then searched for "jake brighton band bassist" on google and turned up with an old band of his called icebound which had Jakes profile in the top friends, I put two and two together. I contacted numerous people that were in his old band, they clammed up and didnt tell me anything, I managed to find his phone number and address of his parents, At this point jake was really worried and came onto messenger to help sort out the whole problem, Obviously the pressure got too much for him and decided to send the bass. Anyway, I managed to set up a meeting between steve norris and jake this morning, Where steve would pick up the bass and get it to Gman who is a moderator of the warwick forums, We have setup a fund which has more then enough in it to send the bass to the buyer in the phillipenes, Gman will then mail it to the buyer. Currently Steve Norris has the bass and will be getting it to Gman within the next few days. There are many things missing but thats the gist of it. There has been so much backing and filing on jakes part, I have had to ring many many people, get the police involved (But ultimately not use) call in favours, setup meetings, cajoule and encourage Jake to do the right thing etc. I am not the only person to have done things. Thanks to Gman from the Warwick Forums for doing other behind the scenes stuff involved in tracking down things, Steve Norris For picking the bass up from jake, the burpster for his sound advice. The people who helped donate to get the bass over to the phillipenes and people who invested their time into this. Also a national newspaper has wanted to get involved, However i have declined, I dont want this going public to the nation beyond the boundaries of bassdom, To protect jakes identity and to prevent internet sales media scaremongering. Im f***ing knackered, I just want this situation over! My fingers are falling off from all the typing! -Rob. -

I used to be a Super moderator for Ultimate-guitar.com, We never allowed the average member to decide on bannings and such. I think its up to the mods of BC to decide. They know the story and are probably discussing it.

I dont think i can contribute to this thread as i have mix feelings. If jake intends to reimburse people for the shipping at somepoint then ban him from the sale section. and see what happens.
Let's not forget that Reuel has already paid Jake to ship the bass once already, so claiming poverty is no excuse. I personally think if he was sorry he would have handed over one of his precisions to be auctioned on ebay to pay for this. Just goes to prove he's not sorry at all IMO
It could be possible that hes sorry but seriously has no money. I am not supporting him in this matter, thankyou very much for the donation its really appreciated, Whatever happens with jake concerning shipping money is up to jake to do. -Rob. -
Tenner in from me. Did Steve manage to speak to Jake without punching him in the face? Has Jake contributed to shipping? I expect Jake to pay us back for this - the actual money can go to charity as far as I'm concerned.
Steve felt that he was genuinely sorry (For himself probably but and on the overall situation) and just wanted this over. Steve feels that no action should be taken against jake, And i agree. Jake claims not to have any money, I believe him. Whether he is likely to pay back the shipping i have no idea that is up to him. I dont want anyone harrasing jake publicly anymore, or getting the police involved or phoning his family. This is now about getting the bass to the phillipenes, If you dont want to donate thats fine.
If I sell someone a bass can I have a whip-round for whatever associated costs I don't feel like paying?
This is not helping. I understand your frustrations. -

THE SHIPPING FUND. paypal address is Donate as much as you like, Shipping is likely to cost over 100 quid.
Hi all, Well I'm ecstatic that Reule's bass is now in friendly hands! I'm hoping to arrange with Steve to pick it up asap and get it off to it's rightful owner. So....contributions gladly accepted! Paypal payments to: Any amount will be gratefully received - so please donate however much you feel. I'm guessing the shipping will be well over £100, but I'll know better once I have accurate dimensions and weight. Thanks for your support - bassplayers are the BEST! Very Happy Giles
Donated a tenner myself! All i can spare (Just a poor student ) -

Ok i have been working and typing and phoning on overtime, Arranging all of this so i will keep this short. Tommorow, Steve (BC member) will be picking up the bass from jake in hove at 4PM. Steve will then take it to Ped's (BC admin) at oxford in evening. Then gman (Warwick Board member, Whos only 45 miles down the road in coventry) Will probably pick the bass up from ped and send it on to roeul! I will keep everyone updated. Balls in Jakes court. -Rob. TLDR VERSION OF STORY. (Short version of story.
