1. I sold my VMTD a while back has I really wanted one with a brighter grainier sound and these new ones looked like just the ticket. But then I got a Pike Vulcan and it's a keeper! I'd still be interested to compare it to the new Vintage but I'm in no rush to buy one.
2. Is the copper shielding connected to ground? If touching it makes it go away, connecting that shielding to your common ground should also make it go away when you touch the strings.
3. I've always fancied giving this a go but only ever had electric guitars (and currently have nothing but basses), so just ordered this el cheapo from Thomann: http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_classica_flamenco_1f.htm I don't suppose anyone has seen or tried one of these? No reviews for it, but there are plenty of good reviews for the other classical guitars they make, so it should be great for mucking about on. Something about the right hand gymnastics and percussive nature of this playing style has some parallels with slap bass, which is perhaps why it appeals so much, that and the fact my old man was always playing The Gypsy Kings when I was young! Only problem I can foresee is I could do with letting my nails grow a bit but that would get in the way of playing bass...

5.
Yeah, interesting, that goes way more distorted than the standard vintage right? Si
Or that could just be Excane, he plays a hot bass into an amp on the edge of preamp tube breakup so everything sounds a bit gainier than you might expect!
6. Just got word that Bass Direct's stock was held up in customs and should be with them tomorrow...
7. With the pickups professionally lowered flush into the body by a professional luthier... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301974189963
8. I was looking around at Jazz pups whilst waiting for my CV Jazz to turn up, and really liked the sound of the Fender Custom Shop 60s out of the various comparisons on YouTube etc. But when the bass turned up I was perfectly happy with it stock! The bridge pickup is weedy by itself yes, but they always are to me, it's a sound I never use.
9. Ah, I didn't realise the Specials were slimmer than the Standards. The main reason I prefer J necks is more about the width though rather than the depth. I'm also after a P with a J neck, interested to see what this new Fender mod shop brings, but I also have a CV P body and CV J neck here that will be bolted together soon!
10. Awesome! Nice grind from that Traben, you using plugins for that?
11.
For the past 4 or 5 years I've had with a Lakland JO neck or my Squier CV Jazz neck on any 4 sting bass I've played live. I just really like Jazz necks. Now I have found a P neck that feels just as comfortable, but I still have my CV Jazz neck on my CV P body as a back up.
What's your current P then, a US Standard?
12. Tried it yet then?
13. Source Audio programmable EQ can be useful for this if you need multiple presets. Or how about a simple boost pedal, so you only need one preset, i.e. on or off? There is an EHX Signal Pad pedal which does the opposite and reduces the volume too.
14. Just saw a pic in a TB thread about the new MIM PJ, a replacement for the seafoam green one in sunburst. This could fit the bill! https://www.talkbass.com/attachments/deluxepj-png.880585/
15. This chap is thinking of going in the opposite direction, if you are considering the J-Retro, buy his! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/286122-east-j-retro-opinions/
16. Best YouTube comment:
Must be carving a penis to match his giant balls.
17. After seeing some of the injuries from other suggested videos with pieces of wood the size of a melon, I'm amazed this guy is still alive, especially as there is a massive death crack running down the side of that trunk!
18. Any idea if those Rays can be ordered with the SLO neck?
19. Just cancel your order then, you're fully within your rights to do so!
20. I think the J-Retro is so compact the battery can go under the control plate, so no need to route a hole for a battery compartment. Not sure if many other preamps can do the same, so worth bearing in mind if you want to be able to revert it back to stock unharmed!
21. How about a John East J-Retro preamp rather than a new set of pickups?
22. I've bought a few from various places, I'll say to avoid the EBS ones as they don't seem very roadworthy - I bought 10 and 2 were faulty on arrival and another one has become iffy since. The best ones I've tried personally are the Sommer Spirit XS ones from here: http://www.thomann.d...sw=patch+cables (plenty of cheap options in here too)
23. Not sure but I assume there is no problem since Mr Wooten has about a dozen knobs on his bass which is therefore probably active!
24.
OK, thanks to Google answered my own question: http://www.gear4musi...-Headphones/O69
Yup, make sure you get the red ones for bass though, not the AC30.
25.
So, has anybody here got their hands on an Aftershock yet? I pre ordered mine six weeks ago but I'm still waiting for it. I just checked online and Thomann and DV247 are showing them in stock at the moment.
Nope, I last asked Bass Direct a couple of weeks ago and they said "any day now!". Pretty poor show. If Thomann/DV247 were the same price I would have cancelled and re-ordered by now - Gear4Music has it for £120 but they say not until the 9th of June.
