I've been eying these up too. Nice to see the burst had a bit of red/yellow to it, it looked a bit dull and brown in the official pics. I don't get why these are priced lower than the US Standards though when they are supposed to be at the same level?

They'd sell a lot more basses if they did limited runs of special colours and changed the colour say every 3 months. Right now your options for a US Standard are black, white, or sunburst. BORING. A lot of people would jump at the chance if there were limited runs of capri orange, shell pink, sienna burst, etc.

On my mobile at least, it just redirects to the UK site which does not feature the mod shop. If I use a free VPN like hidemyass.com I can browse it fine. Is it just me or you no longer able to select a P with a J neck like you used to be able to in the ADE? That was one of the best things about it.

Sounds like you are describing DiMarzio Model J's! They have two coils side by side, kinda like a P pickup rammed into a Jazz housing.

I've read mineral oil to be recommended in the past, the same stuff that aromatherapists use so easily bought from ebay etc.

I set mine as narrow as possible, as per the second pic.

I have a John East stingray pre I'd sell you, but it's the 4 knob version so you'd have to fit a side jack!

Not all cheap ones come with foil - I have only ever bought 2 from eBay, both from different sellers, and neither had any shielding. Most cheap ones should fit well but of course some won't, so it's a gamble. But you can always send it back if it doesn't fit. If you are getting tort it's worth spending the extra. The proper stuff that's made from swirled up liquid plastics has a certain depth to it that you don't get from a printed replica.

I sold my VMTD a while back has I really wanted one with a brighter grainier sound and these new ones looked like just the ticket. But then I got a Pike Vulcan and it's a keeper! I'd still be interested to compare it to the new Vintage but I'm in no rush to buy one.

Is the copper shielding connected to ground? If touching it makes it go away, connecting that shielding to your common ground should also make it go away when you touch the strings.

I've always fancied giving this a go but only ever had electric guitars (and currently have nothing but basses), so just ordered this el cheapo from Thomann: http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_classica_flamenco_1f.htm I don't suppose anyone has seen or tried one of these? No reviews for it, but there are plenty of good reviews for the other classical guitars they make, so it should be great for mucking about on. Something about the right hand gymnastics and percussive nature of this playing style has some parallels with slap bass, which is perhaps why it appeals so much, that and the fact my old man was always playing The Gypsy Kings when I was young! Only problem I can foresee is I could do with letting my nails grow a bit but that would get in the way of playing bass...

I was looking around at Jazz pups whilst waiting for my CV Jazz to turn up, and really liked the sound of the Fender Custom Shop 60s out of the various comparisons on YouTube etc. But when the bass turned up I was perfectly happy with it stock! The bridge pickup is weedy by itself yes, but they always are to me, it's a sound I never use.

Ah, I didn't realise the Specials were slimmer than the Standards. The main reason I prefer J necks is more about the width though rather than the depth. I'm also after a P with a J neck, interested to see what this new Fender mod shop brings, but I also have a CV P body and CV J neck here that will be bolted together soon!

Source Audio programmable EQ can be useful for this if you need multiple presets. Or how about a simple boost pedal, so you only need one preset, i.e. on or off? There is an EHX Signal Pad pedal which does the opposite and reduces the volume too.
