Did you ever try the trick of running the strap over the front of the bass? It totally solves the neckdive, if anything the neck goes up a bit when you let go! Neckfly?!
-
I hear the profile is quite slim front to back... I've had a few 5ers I didn't get on with due to the nut width, with the fretboard digging into the base of my finger when fretting the lowest note.

Here's a great example of the mellower side of these basses: I'm lusting after an NG2 or NG3 at the moment... I'd need to try one first though, fed up of buying basses blind and not getting on with them!

I'm the same height and had a T-Bird Classic Pro. The 1st fret is a bit more of a reach than I'm used to but it wasn't a struggle. Running the strap over the front of the lower bout completely eliminates the neck dive and tilt issues, making it way easier to play. I recommend every T-Bird player try this, it's a revelation - I found it unmanageable on a strap without doing so!

Corrected!

I don't think I've ever seen a media player that can't play a wav file either!

The red might be discontinued now though, I can only find it in image search. Black ones are still for sale though. But it does have a built in handle and the back panel comes off:

I think you got the wrong end of the stick! Not trying to be patronising whatsoever. Just that it's cool that you found a huge sound by stacking pedals so the sum was greater than its parts, and didn't have to spend a fortune to get there. Nothing wrong with cheap pedals at all. Never said the Alpha Omega sounded like a RAT, just that if you like if you like the sounds of a RAT into a Sansamp style pedal, you'd probably like that also.
-
I look forward to sounds clips, I'm a big Om fan! Sounds like you've got your core sound dialed in by stacking some fairly cheap pedals! You'll probably like the Darkglass Alpha Omega if you get the chance to check that out.

Plenty of metal players using P basses out there though! If you ever want growl like this though you might want something different!

P + J pickups (or any 2 pickups really) combined together gives you a more scooped and growly tone. I'd always go for dual pickups for metal as I prefer that sound, but if having to go with just one, I'd have a MusicMan Stingray style humbucker. Maybe a Bigman or Big Blademan: https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/4-string-music-man-bass-pickups But then I just check out those songs you mention and they are not my typical metal sound. I'd choose a Fender P for this:

Sorry, I thought they were tube amps, I stand corrected!

Just noticed Thomann version is silver, probably identical otherwise: https://www.thomann.de/gb/hotone_nano_legacy_thunder_bass.htm

Instruments you'd buy, but wouldn't...

I would've been keen on either of these without the graphics/inlays: -
The Ultralites come in different sizes, could it be that the licensed ones were just a different size to the US ones? Interested as I bought a set of 5 licensed ones for my BB1025X that I never got around to fitting, but will do some day!

I'd love to have a go on a Cristal Baschet - amazing for soundtracks: -

I've been looking at handpans for a while now... I got a Rav Vast in B Onoleo a couple of years ago and play that more than my bass these days! More sustain but not as rich sounding as a handpan. Try their virtual player out if you have a touchscreen! https://ravvast.com/virtualplayer/?drum=18 -
Some good use cases for this... I was considering upgrading my Alpha Omega to the Ultra for the cab sim, this would be more flexible. You could dial in your favourite tone via headphones then use this as your DI box. I hope they got the headphone amp portion right, many units like the Zoom multis are no good at driving higher impedance headphones.

If only someone made a clone of it in a 1590A enclosure... http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/microfuzz/

I believe it does have the same volume drop. If you don't want to change to deal with that via other means, the Octabvre Mini has bags of volume on tap, but of course costs a lot more! I hear the volume drop was also solved in the new MXR one too, but I've never played one.
