Yes, wide spacing at the bridge (but still adjustable, as with all Warwicks) and normal spacing at the nut. To be honest, the bridge spacing just feels "fender" anyway. Its a 5 string so the neck is wide, but not a "bassball bat" profile - very pleasant to play. I've never seen a "bassball" Warwick, but this is only my third.... And before you ask, I'm not planning to ship this - I'm hoping to hand it over in person (its only got a gig bag).

I was going to ask you where the neck came from....but I've just decided not too!

The 15 years was a guess...I really don't want to work it out! But I do recall (despite the beer) that it had turned into an Irish theme pub, and not just for the night.

The Bristol Bridge..that makes me feel old! My last gig there must've been St Patrick's night about 15 years ago...it wasn't the Bridge anymore.

I was thinking what good taste your previous basses displayed....time for a re-think. Enjoy!

I'm guessing that came from Josh???

See, we all think the same way....its already started, as I posted a box of bits to a well known luthier this very morning! It looks like a Jaco tribute bass, but really its more of a "People who copied Jaco" tribute! I remember players from the late 70'/early 80's who used hacked up fenders or copies and sounded great - Dill Katz, Alan Thomson, Dave "Taef" Ball....I'm sure there were lots of others...if they didn't play a Wal it was often a fender with DiMarzios.

Hi Chris, Its gooood, in a ssllllidddeyyy Thomastik way! The bass actually set itself up really, I just screwed it together, left it overnight, off it went. The only issue is the bridge is set higher than I would like, but its soo easy I don't want to mess around anymore.

I used to play fretless a lot, always enjoyed it but gradually got out the habit when I started playing EUB. Recently, I started putting this together, using a few accumulated parts and a few more recently found on BassChat. This is the bass I wanted about 25 years ago, but ended up with a modded Pbass instead (now with our very own Beedster). It breaks down as Bravewood body (from Walbassist) '73 Fender neck (from Beedster) and used DiMarzios (from Pearl Jammin) plus other bits and pieces. Nice bass, in good condition - but I'm in need of funds and it sounds too modern for a lot of what I'm currently playing. Very comfortable and not very heavy, this is the widespaced "broadneck" version. Flamed maple, with wenge fingerboard, usual MEC humbuckers and active 3 band eq. Two minor issues - nut has been changed to latest just-a-nut III, but it isn't tight up against the fingerboard. I didn't fancy filing some old glue away so its just tacked in place with a drop of glue. Not hard to sort, but the intonation seems fine as is, so I haven't done it yet. Jack socket is a bit worn and noisy (cuts out sometimes) a replacement Warwick jack will be included with the bass (as will a set of Dunlop recessed strap locks - if you fancy changing from the current 'wick ones). Also comes in a Warwick gig bag - good condition, but not up to shipping. Not looking for trades...but I often can't resist, so try me? BB

Good to see some praise posted. I've always been impressed by Overwater's service on the stuff they import - and they don't ask straight away if you bought it from them.

I'll try and get there.....will confirm nearer the time

I've trie a few in the past, and generally not liked them - partly because they can sound dull/aggessive and partly because my Pbasses have always had a J added and it just makes a bad balance worse! Having said that I really liked the old DiMarzio, has a nice mid edge to it, and really liked the Seymour Duncan trad version. Its also worth noting that stock Fender pickups can vary a lot...so overwinding isn't such a new idea. As the good Doc says, the after market sellers need to show an improvement..however slight..over the original.

Nickel rounds (DR sunbeams are my favourite) will do less damage than steel...but will still cause damage fairly quickly. But the amount depends on two variables - the hardness of the rosewood (there are many woods called rosewood) and the way you play. The big thing really is the sound you want. "Jaco" is best achieved with rounds, but I like Thomastik flats - they last a long long time and only leave minor scratches. However, the floppy tension is an acquired taste

These have been used a bit on an Alembic Epic, but should fit ok on any "2 over 2" headstock (Warwick etc) bass. Purple silks are a bit straggly, but the strings should be fine for a good long while yet. If you want to try out old fashioned "dead but musical" flats without spending a lot..here's a chance. £15 posted (paypal probably easiest)

I've got a small bodied Martin - could be persuaded to part with it (or rather, my car is in a bad way..I can see a large bill in my near future). PM me if you're interested?
I think that's very harsh on Paul.
I couldn't agree more - Paul was working at Wal for a long time before Pete had to pack it in. He's also established a fine reputation as a maker/repairer in his own right. There is no one alive more qualified to take it on and produce instruments equal or probably better than earlier examples. Pete himself used to say that his current instruments were the best they'd made. What that does to percieved secondhand values is another issue, of course. I don't normally get involved in "for sale discussions" but I'll make an exception here.

Best thing to clean a maple Stingray neck
BassBod replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Sorry if my wording wasn't clear - I don't put wax on the fretboard! I only use the Birchwood "gunstock" wax on the back as a final sealer (but only a tiny amount, wiped clean again in a few mins). Good point about the Warwick finisher/wax - unlike many others that doea a good job on the back of the neck without leaving any stickiness and also doesn't have any of the health warnings you see on the Birchwood products -
I'm a supporter of this project, and would consider buying one. Never owned an Overwater but I've always been impressed when I've played them. I've got one silly gripe though - those photos look like Peavey basses to me? I'd better go hide now before everyone tells what a fantastic and innovative company Peavey etc etc etc and have I ever played a T40 etc etc years ahead of their time...apparantly.
