1. Nickel rounds (DR sunbeams are my favourite) will do less damage than steel...but will still cause damage fairly quickly. But the amount depends on two variables - the hardness of the rosewood (there are many woods called rosewood) and the way you play. The big thing really is the sound you want. "Jaco" is best achieved with rounds, but I like Thomastik flats - they last a long long time and only leave minor scratches. However, the floppy tension is an acquired taste
2. That just scares me.
3. These have been used a bit on an Alembic Epic, but should fit ok on any "2 over 2" headstock (Warwick etc) bass. Purple silks are a bit straggly, but the strings should be fine for a good long while yet. If you want to try out old fashioned "dead but musical" flats without spending a lot..here's a chance. £15 posted (paypal probably easiest)
4. I've got a small bodied Martin - could be persuaded to part with it (or rather, my car is in a bad way..I can see a large bill in my near future). PM me if you're interested?
5.
I think that's very harsh on Paul.
I couldn't agree more - Paul was working at Wal for a long time before Pete had to pack it in. He's also established a fine reputation as a maker/repairer in his own right. There is no one alive more qualified to take it on and produce instruments equal or probably better than earlier examples. Pete himself used to say that his current instruments were the best they'd made. What that does to percieved secondhand values is another issue, of course. I don't normally get involved in "for sale discussions" but I'll make an exception here.
6. Sorry if my wording wasn't clear - I don't put wax on the fretboard! I only use the Birchwood "gunstock" wax on the back as a final sealer (but only a tiny amount, wiped clean again in a few mins). Good point about the Warwick finisher/wax - unlike many others that doea a good job on the back of the neck without leaving any stickiness and also doesn't have any of the health warnings you see on the Birchwood products
7. I'm a supporter of this project, and would consider buying one. Never owned an Overwater but I've always been impressed when I've played them. I've got one silly gripe though - those photos look like Peavey basses to me? I'd better go hide now before everyone tells what a fantastic and innovative company Peavey etc etc etc and have I ever played a T40 etc etc years ahead of their time...apparantly.
8. It had a Quarter Pounder on it when I got it (from first owner, Lukeward) but I didn't like the sound. I had a DiMarzio left over from another project so tried it and loved it...Ben put another QP in. We've all got our own ears....
9. Here's a pic from its earlier life, with DiMarzio and tort.....nice bass!
10. Yes - I'll email later....
11. Sorry, Thumb gone..but it was a bit heavy anyway. Got a nice light PJ Sadowsky though...
12. Had two..still got one. I'll pm when I've had some sleep...
13. Still plotting.......

I used to own this one Fantastic bass, with the thinnest neck I've ever seen. Hugh Manson's designs are a bit of an acquired taste but very high quality construction. His late 70's to mid 80's stuff has a lovely "brit bass" vibe. Totally worthless compared to a Wal from the same era (probably much less than Jaydee or Status) but lovely basses all the same.
15. I've always liked EMG's in a Pbass too - punchy and warm, but with added bite if you want it..but most people will pay a lot more for the originals.
16. I'm sure someone here will have a useful comparison, but the market is not good, its not from one of Fender's "finest moments" and its got EMG's and its a heavy one...I'd retire it for a while, rather than sell, if possible. I'm assuming you're using a w-i-d-e leather strap (or comfort strap) etc to help with the weight?

Nice very British basses...but people try to make ££ on the JPJ assosciation. Buy them for what they are, not who plays them
18. I'd love to see a double midget photo...that sounds well dodgy, but you know what I mean
19. I think its best to only use "lemon oil" on the fretboard - lemon oil (or tung/danish) on the back, followed by the gunstock wax (small amount) as a sealer. I cleaned one up recently, it works well but is hard work if the fingerboard has got very dirty. I like oiled necks, but I would think about a thin satin nitro coat on the fingerboard - they get dirty very easily.
20. Your workshop looks very tidy..... Can't wait to see some spray-gun action!
21. Sold the Doc some Emg's for a build...very easy to deal with, just wished I lived a bit closer so he could fix up my basses.....
22. Thanks for sharing - a good reminder to us all how things can happen. A friend of mine had major heart surgery a few years ago and mentioned his will and leaving me his bass if things didn't go well. That's a feeling you don't ever forget....I really hope I'm never having a conversation like that again. On a lighter note - your Bravewoods look fantastic. What is the secret of getting JE to actually build you somethng??!! PM me, please...
