1. Errm, back on topic. Warwick, Warwick, Warwick. Corvette, to be precise. 4 and 5. I also play a Fortress 5, but it feels heavy after a while. No problem with my tiny tits while playing any of those basses On the other hand, the acoustic is a pain - literally - and can't be played while sitting. I stand up when I'm playing it. Only problem is a bit of neck dive, cos it's cheap and it's hollow...
2.
Rather than have a self-congratulatory round of (self) back-patting, why don't "we" (BC) have a set of awards for the bass-related industry (industries?) Y'know, categories like: (off the top of my head..) Best customer service Best advice Best rehearsal studio (perhaps by area) Best independent luthier Best set-ups Best new product (bass/amp/other/etc) Best recording studio And a "recommendation" for second and third places as appropriate. The primary aim being to raise the profile of BC in the industry and promote stronger links between the community here and the bass world (See what I did there?) outside...
I think that's a fantastic idea. I haven't sent in any votes for the original awards, as i can only think of a couple of names in one or two categories, and even that at a push - we are such an organic community it's hard to pick individual members who are "the best" or "the most" something or other. Your suggestion would allow us to involve Twitter and Facebook to publicise the winners and get a few retweets and shares, and would also reward good service and good products. Ped? Kiwi? What do you think?
3. Jez, the last I know is that the book is still with Simon (Geek99). I don't know if he follows this thread, maybe you could PM him.
4. They are all excellent. Besides Jerry's bass playing and talks to the audience, we particularly enjoyed Jenson's singing - he's soo good.
5. Might even be an air Warwick fretless, non?
6. LOL LOL LOL Er, sorry...
7. Thank you for that, Twice. I still hope the course will be re-scheduled at some point, and I will keep Bree's email address handy and ask her to keep us posted with any news if I don't receive any updates in the next couple of months.
8. Thanks Rushbo! It was an awesome night and yes, Jerry is a legend, and a totally down-to-earth and unassuming one too.
9. YAY! I'm so tweeting this
10. Slideshow of Jerry playing with Jenson Bloomer and Mondo Carne and talking to the audience last night. http://www.flickr.co...449453065/show/ One from the set:
11. Aaand... we were there. It was a fantastic night. I have lots of photos to sift through, but in the meantime I can post this one of Jerry, Happy Jack and me at last night's meet and greet. More to follow.
12. I'e tweeted this one as well (currently posting on a rather iffy broaband connection in Stourbridge). I hope the guitar gets recovered and the culprit caught.
13. Likewise. Hope they recover it.
14. Exactly.
Dear All Thank you so much for your interest in Danny Thompson's Bass School. Unfortunately we're going to have to postpone the class due to scheduling issues which we can't accommodate in that period. At this point in time, I'm unsure as to when this can go ahead again but you will be the first to know if any new plans do come up. Danny is keen to do this class and we will do our best to make it happen. I apologise again for this but thank you for all your support. All the best for 2013! Kind regards Bree Bree Ishikawa | Paul Crockford Management DANNY THOMPSON
15. Thank you Ray - I've just shared the photo both as myself and as Basschat. I really hope someone can help.
16. Post the link on to Basschat's FB page and I'll share it to our followers.
17. I've just been reliably informed that Warwick are going to have their own stand at the show, which is excellent news after a few years' absence. So, if we can't have our own corner, you bet where I'm going to suggest we meet up Oh, and let's all wear our BC lanyards, of course! \m/ \m/
18. As 3below said. Also on Fortress. I stripped my D'Addario Chrome of its silk and that did the job.
19.
Joe Public can only just recognise an electric guitar at ten paces - they haven't sussed the difference between guitar and bass yet, that's for sure. .
This.
20. Regarding the weakness of the pickups, if the Streamer is like my Rockbasses I imagine that there may be a difference between active and passive versions of the electronics. My two active ones sound powerful enough to me even when plugged directly into the amp, but they're not as good as "Warwicks with a W".
21. LOL way to keep bumping this thread, folks
22. I don't own a Streamer, but I do own three Rockbasses (Corvette and Fortress) and they're good stuff and proper value for money. My models are pre-2010, which means they have the not-very-clever bridge design that prevents you installing a low B string that's thicker than .130. I understand this has been rectified both on Rockbasses and on Warwicks proper, with a new bridge design. The other thing to watch out for, as on all Warwicks I think, is the jack socket on the body, which is notoriously pretty fragile. Try to plug and unplug the lead in a straight line, and avoid pushing or pulling diagonally.
23. Paul, I don't know if my comment looked like it was directed at you, but it wasn't. I've been tweeting the comp like mad every month since I became aware of its existence, and I wasn't implying that you as a winner had been canvassing for votes (I mentioned the photo comp for a reason). I voted for the song I honestly liked best, which ended up being one of the less popular IIRC. Obviously, since November had a big prize, I tried to do as much justice as possible to the generous sponsor - they are on Twitter too, and I gave them a lot of click-through mentions and similar, as well as re-tweeting your plugs. Much the same for December, despite the lack of sponsors and therefore click-throughs. I think we did a good job. Now, if we could involve BC's FB account a little more, so that these plugs could reach a larger audience, I'm sure more sponsors would come forward, as they would begin to see the comp as a good advertising vehicle.
24. I wish we could have a CD with all the entries, subject to copyright, permission from the author etc., as opposed to just the winner of each month. (Repeating myself on this as well - apologies!)
