1. It's shaping up to be a BC Brum Meetup! Anyone else in the area or planning to come along?
2. One day I'll ask you if I can borrow your Nellie to get rid of some of those feline vermin infesting my garden, Chris...
3. Welcome Squidman! Remember, Fender is emphatically not the only make of bass you can look at. And, the choice is far wider than between P or J (as generic types of bass). I would suggest you find a nice music store in your German town or its vicinity (if you happen to live anywhere near Thomann or Warwick, I sooo envy you!!), and look at, and play, and listen to as many models of bass you can get you hands on. Doesn't matter whether you can actually play one or not, you can ask the guys at the store for help. Do it! Have fun!
4. We'll see you there, Jerry! Thanks for posting this.
5. I'll try that too, later. The string spacing on 5ers might not help, though.
6. I still need to try mine on the 4, and the fretless 5, and the upright (if the clamp can fit somewhere). I'll have a little fun tonight
7. Thank you all for your advice, guys! I received my D'Addario Planet Waves mini tuner this morning, and I've just tried it. Good points: - The adjustable clamp - very clever - Reversible display for us lefties - Tiny! Slightly less good point: - Still takes a while, and/or a few plucks, to decide if my B string is in tune or not. (At least, though, it doesn't have problems with the E string.) Excellent buy for a little less than £12 and free delivery from Amazon. Edit - the tuner wasn't touching the strings, even if in this photo it looks like it is.
8. And Badass is doing his bit for the Xmas spirit here: http://basschat.co.u...m-british-lion/
9. I'll get me to a nunnery right away...
10.
Another innuendo
Stop forcing me to make inhuman efforts to ignore them all!!
11.
Pull the other one, it's got Christmas bells on it!
But I did a good job of ignoring it and posting a non-innuendo'd reply, right?
12.
Sylvia knows full well I could never be accused of innuendo.
Of course not, I wouldn't dare...
13.
Dirty git
And this time little innocent me hadn't thought of the innuendo there...
14. I was checking earlier... found nothing so far, I'm afraid...
15. Loving this! Thanks for the laughs If I hadn't used up my spare string sets for the SE Bass Bash raffle, I'd continue this thread with a new offer.
16. LOL may not be your fault at all - Do you use the version of Google that's optimised for Norway? I ask becasue it seems to me that every localised version of Google has different search algorythms, so that, even if you enter the same English words that I do, what I see on my screen may well be different to what you see on yours. I noticed that when comparing notes (and searches) with my friends in Italy. I seem to find a lot more stuff than they do, despite entering the same keywords in English.
17. Good to know you think it's them, Bert - the above is just the result of some quasi-random googling, since my ex and I missed seeing Living Colour live at the time and I really couldn't remember who they were touring with. I'm sure you'll find plenty of videos on Youtube etc.
18. Could it be this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIVING-COLOUR-BAD-BRAINS-SWEETWATER-poster-1993-Seattle-/370294606044?nma=true&si=fgdFEDBQ3MCnG1dvs6fsvlij5eI%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
19. Needless to say, a few weeks before Quo's Hammersmith dates, we should start a new thread and plan some sort of Basschat meetup at the gig
20. I started listening to Quo in the late 70s - before then I was too young for rawk n roll I'm happy to have tickets for the Hammersmith gig and I intend to learn about and/or refresh on the band's back catalogue in time for that! \m/ \m/
21.
There's a joke in there about diligently trimming back a bush, but that would be far too smutty.
That's a relief you haven't mentioned the idea, then...
22. Yup, looks good - what's the accuracy, if stated anywhere? Edit: anyone tried this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0059EUIM2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&smid=A201EI9BO9JGLA
23. Keep 'em coming, guys (pun intended, of course...)!
24.
On another note ( pun very definitely intended ) if the low E struggles can't I just check that it is accurate at the fifth fret as an A or third as a G etc ??
Wouldn't the accuracy of that depend on how good your bass's intonation is? I'd love to know more about that too, although I would still much prefer to find a device that actually checks the tuning on the open strings, as that should be the safest thing to do. To make things worse, I play 5ers with flatwounds, which means I can forget using the Boss TU-80 for tuning the E and B in a hurry at least...
25. Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I'm in the market for a good clip-on as my normal Boss tuner/metronome is a bit of a pain on the E and B strings. I'd love some up to date info on anything decent in the £15-20 max bracket, if any of you has had any luck. Thank you in advance!
