1. OK, then - my next Warwick-related mission will be to find a lefty Thumb on display somewhere and try it. They didn't have a lefty in NYC when I visited. (That's possibly a good excuse to visit again soon...!)
2. Since I seem to gather that you do a lot of gigging in different styles, I would go for a second bass if you can afford it and have the space. After all, the number of lefty electric bassists and upright/double bassists is slowly increasing, now that we are no longer seen as spawn of the devil or sumfink... It's a matter of ordering a bass and waiting, as opposed to walking into a shop and grabbing one, but at least you're usually no longer met with a scornful laugh and a head-shake. You may well be able to sell on your spare bass - if one day either becomes surplus to requirements - to a younger musician. Or even to me, if I ever manage to move into a bigger flat!
3. Good stuff Posted on Tony's FB page! By the way, Jason's surname is spelled "Fraticelli" on his FB page, though (i tagged him in my post too).
4. David Ellefson's model sold by Jackson is identical to the one he plays, apparently, and comes at a price. Jackson also sell a more affordable model based on his specs. (That's what Ellefson said at the London Bass Guitar Show.) I was suitably impressed and GASsing.
5. I've tweeted this thread, and will retweet periodically. I'm not saying yes or no just yet, seeing that last year I was all for it and then I couldn't make it. This time, I'll jump on board - or won't - after you guys have decided the date and place, if there are enough takers. Thank you in advance Patch and Leftybassman for organising the meetup!
6. Right, you all got me gassing like mad, and I had only just begun to recover from that visit to the NY shop. Grrr....
7. Still on the subject of sales, I seem to have noticed a proliferation of seemingly innocent posts (under Bass Guitars, or another of the specific forums outside the Marketplace) along the lines of "I'd really like to sell X, I wonder how much it would go for?". Isn't that a way of inviting PMs and trying to make a sale by circumventing the rules, rather than a genuine request for opinions or info? Or am I being too cynical (in which case, I apologise in advance)?
8. And I can't believe nobody has uttered those two words - Geezer Butler. Four-piece band, one guitar, basslines from Heaven (oh yeah, and Hell)
9.
I have no complaints whatsoever. It a wonderful forum and very well moderated for the most part. The odd few complainers don't really indicate a trend for me.
Exactly. Keep up the excellent work, guys.
10. Thanks Norm! I also was surprised by how much rock, jazz and fusion I heard there, as well as C&W. The city rocks
11. Waiting for Happy Jack to post his long list... Yours truly doesn't play in a band but enjoys helping with the roadying for friends, taking (lots of) photos and videos of their gigs, keeping an eye on their social media if needed, and offering her (hopefully informed) opinion of performances, recordings etc. if/when asked.
12. So, some of us have recently been there and others are going soon. Here's my take on my quick visit. Those of you who are attending bass camps or simply going there on a music-themed holiday, please add your own blogs! It's an awesome city. 13. If only Ozzy could sing...
14. YAY! Congrats! Fretless is cool Keep us posted on how you get on with the new baby
15. Kudos to you, Glefty, for defying all the "but there aren't nearly as many models to choose from" naysayers...
16.
and what polo did I wear?
\m/ \m/
17. Soo jealous of those who are there! Ped, Kiwi, can I be Basschat's Musikmesse reporter next year? Please? I would write and publish a lot of photoblogs for this site...
18. I'm not keen on single cut in any type of bass, by Warwick or anyone else, but I do like the shape of the "normal" Thumb model. and those woods are gorgeous.
19. True. I imagine mentioning Basschat and handing over my business card may have helped a little, too. But I'm sure there is no pressure at all to buy or be quick for any customers who walk in there.
20.
How much were they selling that Streamer for out of interest? Found a site but no stock basses listed.
Sorry but I don't remember - I may have removed it from memory because it was way out of the reach of my pockets If you'd like to know for sure, PM me and I'll give you Jesse's email address at Warwick.
21. We Warwick nuts should band together and make some sort of bulk buy to satisfy our GAS!
22. LOL all you guys crack me up Thanks again for your appreciation. If my blog is giving you GAS, well, that's exactly how I felt in the NYC shop, so join the club! \m/ \m/
