1. I have flats on all my basses, regardless of number of strings or presence/absence of frets. They sound great even on the cheapest models, and I don't see myself ever going back to rounds, really.
2. My tuppence: I love TIs for their awesome sound and for their low tension. I tend to install them on 4-stringers and reserve the somewhat brighter-sounding D'Addario Chromes for 5-stringers. I don't do rounds at all these days.
3. Curiosity. The desire to explore all bass-related possibilities - fretless, 5-string, short scale, looong scale, and combinations of some or all the above! I still haven't had the honour of meeting a lefty double bass, though, as opposed to an EUB. Which obviously means: GAS lives on!
4. PS thanks also for liking my Ignition! It's the Indonesian-made model, not the expensive German one, but it looks good and sounds pretty awesome all the same, especially now that I've installed a set of TIs on it
5. Thank you Dandelion! Clearing just the cache did the job - I didn't want to lose all my cookies, saved passwords and history, and thankfully that wasn't necessary
6. I know that the system usually takes some time to update after you've uploaded a new photo to your profile - but I uploaded a brand new one to mine more than 6 hours ago, and yet the avatar appearing in my replies is still the two-year-old photo. If I click on it, I am taken to my profile which is, instead, showing the new photo. What's going on? Thanks!
7. Thanks! There are many many more, and I'm still selecting the full set to go on my blog of the day
8. A quick selection from my billion photos of the day Happy Jack playing my cheapo Beatle bass upside down, and finding it not too bad! And gassing for one of Clarky's Fretless beauties The beauty with its owner Clarky playing Jack's Status Shelley Louise SiBob, tapdancing Jamming in the big room, No 1 Jamming in the big room, No 2 (with Nige doing an excellent job on drums!) Lawrence Cottle
9. It was an AWESOME meetup. A big thank you to Mick and Lozz and all the other organisers who made it possible. I loved seeing old and new friends and meeting in person other people I know from the forum. Excellent work, everybody. I'm just back from a Junkyard Dogs gig where we went directly from the bash - hence my delay in joining this thread today. Look out for a massive photoblog - with additional vids! - in the next few days. I've given my details to Louise and we'll hopefully be in touch to compare notes and exchange photos
10. Yay! Will be good to see you again Although of absolutely no interest to anyone, I'll bring my new Ignition Beatle bass (LH) which I received from Thomann yesterday. Just for the hell of it
11. We'll miss those of you who can't make it, and hope we'll see you soon at another bash. Rest assured that, should you be curious to see what went on at this bash, you'll soon have an extensive, detailed photoblog courtesy of yours truly to wade through at leisure Rock on all the same you guys, whether at home with your families or out giggin \m/ \m/
12. Aw, bless - it was the exact opposite in my case. If there was one thing I had started disliking about the ex, before he walked out, was that his guitar playing had been relegated to occasional hobby, as opposed to the previous almost constant rehearsing and gigging. He had simply grown bored with it. (So it wasn't only me he was bored with, then!) So yes, another bass player (me) involved in a split. But I became a bass player after the split! Which way does that push the statistics' result?
13. And, Thumbs sound awesome. Still prefer the Corvette shape, though.
14.
Said the man that recently visited a Warwick factory and considered buying one
It was all my fault...
15. Oldskoolfender, have a look around these two subforums - even if your songs are not there, you could ask some of the guys who posted their transcriptions to help you with what you need. http://basschat.co.uk/forum/41-groove-library/ http://basschat.co.uk/forum/31-theory-and-technique/ Welcome to Basschat - and good luck
16. Bump! I've put it on Facebook too. See you all there
17. If all that happens, it's going to be absolutely awesome! I've been tweeting the bash throughout the last couple of months. We could do with a shout out on Facebook too - I'll see to it tomorrow (not now - better choose a time when people may be online, while at the moment most will be either in the garden with the BBQ or watching the telly or out and about.) Thank you again, guys, for your hard work organising this.
18. Although we Chiswick BCers are neighbours of sorts with Bruce, and often spot him in local pubs, we don't have a direct contact for him, I'm afraid. I would second the idea of emailing their PR through Maiden's website. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.
19. So how many of us are coming, Mick? Hopefully enough to at least cover expenses...? Would be lovely to see the admin team in full at the bash too! Colin, Chris, Steve, will you be around?
20.
It's a bit of fun basschat, that's all. It won't affect the sales of Rickenbackers one bit. In fact, if it does anything it will publish the name ... in an "any publicity is good publicity" kinda way. You have a good site Ped. No question ........... but whatever basschat says or does about any brand of bass, other than the real man in a shed operations, will have zero effect on anything.
Hmmm.... I do not agree one bit, and nor do my teachers/mentors at the business courses I'm taking in reputation management, PR and marketing through social media (of which discussion forums are a big part) and the internet in general. Not to mention that general common sense suggests such things do matter, a lot, in these "always connected" times. However, please don't take this thread off-topic by trying to refute what I say. You have your opinion, I have mine.
21. I'm going in any case, whether as Basschat's rep or not, and I hope I'll see you again there, Lozz, together with as many other BCers as possible. We'll make another massive BC meet-up out of it, one way or another
22. Welcome, Magne. We have a small Norwegian contingent on the forum, I believe. I'm sure they'll turn up and say hi. Oooo, a Rickenfaker - make sure you never try to sell it on this site! (Have a look in the Bass Guitars subforum.) Geezer Butler - good stuff. Metal (in general) - excellent stuff. Les and Jaco - brilliant stuff.
23. Hello west London neighbour, and welcome! Plenty of friendly advice on here, for beginners and advanced players alike, so do stick around, and ask the community if you have any questions - there will always be someone either in the same predicament or able to help
24.
Read the post above yours Silvia. Apparently "all" the stuff
I had missed that last sentence! But Jack does carry quite a lot of THE STUFF anyway, so it's not strictly true
