1. Forgot to say - I also tweeted it earlier and will re-tweet periodically. When's the deadline for the vote?
2. I've facebooked it! There must be some idiotic glitch that randomises the pic associated to our FB posts, so the post is accompanied by Gary's photo of the BCBaton.
3. Wow! is that a record? I love that pic!
4. Excellent, we've had the same idea. Duplicate post, apologies
5. Just a quick heads-up: we now have a new Share Your Music subforum under Recording and a new Live Photos and Videos subforum under Gigs. Please make sure you use them (instructions in the dedicated thread in each subforum). Don't let the new areas become graveyard like those entire forums were until less than a year ago! They are good publicity opportunities for your bands, and if they're lively I will tweet about them to Basschat's followers all the time. Suggestions and comment always welcome, here or in the dedicated threads in those subforums. Thank you! Silvia Quick linkies to the main forums: Recording: http://basschat.co.uk/forum/10-recording/ Gigs: http://basschat.co.uk/forum/11-gigs/
6. The purpose of this subforum is to share live videos, photos and audio from current and future gigs of Basschatters' bands. Please only post old/historic material once, in your initial post, and preferably only if you haven't got any recent stuff to show. Please create one thread for each band you're in, and put the name of the band in the thread title, followed by your BC name in brackets, so we know whose gang we're going to look at If you are in more than one band, please create more than one thread. Please only post live material, be it photos, videos or audio recordings. (Anything from the studio can go under Share Your Music in the Recording forum). Format: Ideally you should make a separate post for each gig, specifying date and place at the beginning and then posting your media below. The idea is to create a chronological album of live material for each of your bands. Comments and suggestions for improvement always welcome! Thank you, Silvia

7.
I've often wondered why so much time on a bass website is wasted discussing metal. Talk about "two bald men arguing about a comb". Now, back to real music ...
The following will date me but - in trad metal, when a band has two guitarists and possibly also an ego-driven drummer - think Metallica, Van Halen, classic Guns N Roses and Judas Priest to a certain extent, etc. - there's little space left for the bassist. Simple as that. Metal, or at least the kind I listen to, is guitar-driven, full stop. There are exceptions, such as Black Sabbath (only one guitar) and Maiden (they do have 3 guitarists though, bless 'em!), but they are just that, exceptions.
8.
Ooh, I see that has already been done. Cheers Silv.
That was Ian (icastle), Nige - I'm still waiting for my mod rights to this forum
9. Forgot to add, Jerry will be playing live with Jenson Bloomer and Mondo Carne again at Stourbridge on 15th March 2014. Aw, go on, allow me to post that photo from his gig of 5th January 2013 once again
10. Thanks for this, Dave. I hadn't seen it shared among my FB friends yet, so I've posted the link on to Jerry's FB page.
11. Brilliant, Nige - thanks. Could you please add your BC name in brackets to the thread title, so that it looks like the other ones in this forum? As soon as I am given mod rights on this forum too, I'll unpin all the threads and do admin properly
12. New subforum up and running!!!
13. Happy Jack's helpful suggestion re. West London was Arch Studios near Stamford Brook tube station. He says they will allow people to book more than one rehearsal room or even the entire first floor, and they're not too expensive. http://www.archstudios.co.uk/ Similar ideas in other parts of London welcome, obviously
14. I really don't see why you should subject yourself to torture by upside-down instrument when there are lots of good, relatively cheap lefty models around. Ibanez and Warwick (Rockbass) spring to mind.
15. Welcome to the fold, Sammers and Virtue! Luckily for us, nowadays lefty models from most big names aren't exceedingly hard to find.
16. Having a lefty bass strung the wrong way up is no more normal than having a righty strung the wrong way up. It's possibly slightly more common due to those poor souls who are left-handed but only have/had a righty bass turned upside down to learn on. All the lefty guitar or bass players I know in person have the strings the right way up on their instruments.
17. Moved under Effects
18. I'm not allowed to do that here - or I would. sorry. Edit: I've asked the other mods to look at it.
19. Inspiring stuff indeed. We had ended up at the Triumph Brewery almost by chance after asking if there were jam nights in town, and we were blown away by the quality of the musicianship there. (When we went back the following night we also met and admired double bassist Jason Fraticelli and drummer Tony Flagiello, among others.) The jam night has moved away from Triumph since then. Nah, I didn't get up, Funkgod - I wouldn't remotely have been good enough to even simply stand on the same stage as those guys, let alone play with them. Conveniently, there was no left-handed bass to be borrowed, so that was my excuse... I'll have to do a search on jam nights in London and see if I can come up with something. From what I understand, Elliott isn't looking to walk into a large-scale paid gig, only to play a bit with like-minded musicians and make a few friends this side of the pond.
20. I met Elliott at a popular jam session evening in Philadelphia last March. He has just let me know that he'll be in France at the beginning of December and would like to stop in London if he can find some performance opportunities. So I need the great Basschat collective help - any ideas we could explore? This is the man: http://www.jazz.com/...-elliott-shalom http://simpletone.co.../elliott_levin/ Thank you all in advance for any help
21. That bass is a complete and total turnoff to me. Horrid.

23. It's my pleasure, Myke - and thanks
