Personally I think that that clip with clear sound is utterly brilliant. I can't stand pointless slap bass, but to me it seems clear that he's using it there to build tension.

No Doubts cover of It's My Life, great fun.

Not easy at all, but Today by Talk Talk has one of the best basslines ever - and the bass to Living In Another World always gets me. Paul Webb: Genius.
The Pot and AEnima are both well worth checking out, too. The TOOL Twitter account says there's been some activity in their camp lately, so we should hear something soonish, I hope!
The drummer left the band I was in, and I followed shortly after. I had no click with the new guy and it's just no fun playing bass if you don't have that. Since formed a new band with the old drummer!
I had an audition once where one of the singers turned up late and utterly hammered. Mildly shambolic! On the other hand, I had learned the wrong Beatles song...
I've almost always been in more than one band at a time. You just have to ensure that certain nights belong to certain bands and that way nobody gets bent out of shape - a Google Calender comes in pretty handy!
We've had a little chat about it here and we think two things: Firstly, slapping is the harder technique, and secondly, that the discipline required is to not slap all the time.
