1. Cant pick cast iron up with two fingers though :-) And i am not known for my outstanding photographic skills!
2. Ok heres some pics. The other cab is a GK 212MBE for size comparison Used it at a gig last night and it was great. It was a weird sounding room playing towards a wall with it perched on an (unplugged) Big One and a loud Engl geetar combo directly under it so not an ideal first run out. It fattened up as it ran in thru the evening and by the end of the night was dialled in nicely with my GK MBFusion and Spector Euro bass. The handles are better quality, the new compression driver is really nice (very musical), the neat little Barefaced logo inside the port is cool, the bandmates cant believe i did the gig running thru something so small, it sounds amazing and its nice to support a small British company trying to do something they genuinely believe in and i am a happy bunny. 3.
No pics = it doesn't exist
Definitely exists - its sat in my front room with the missus grumbling about it Piccies tomorrow
4. NOW SOLD My new Barefaced arrived today so due to the "one in, one out" policy my GK 212MBE cab needs to go. Its in 9/10 good gigged condition, has a fantastic sound - very punchy and cuts through well but with plenty of bottom if required. Has a switchable tweeter too but seems to sound better with it off in my opinion. Its the 8 ohm 600 watt MK 1 version with metal grill. Superlight at 36lbs/20kg so an easy one handed lift. Speakon and 1/4" connectors. Very sensitive so very efficient and loud. Comes with new Roqsolid fitted cover which was nearly £50 on its own. Collection only from near Stansted Airport, M11, Bishops Stortford area. £250 May be interested in a small 500watt+ amp head with cash in either direction as some sort of px deal. Its one of the ones in the piccy below.
5. I collected my Barefaced Big Baby 2 today. Had a quick tootle at home this evening and it sounds great at low level. Big sounding, clear and the range of mid/top adjustment with compression driver is a revelation - goes from old school thump to shatttering high end with a quick turn of the control. Hearing the cab demoed as a PA speaker was cool too, it was crystal clear and sounded immense. Some nice little touches of detail on it too. - like the machined BF logo inside the port and it feels really well built. Thanks to Alex and the gang for their hospitality too. They loaded me up with swag and some spare corners for my Big One while i was there and we had a good long chat about mountain bikes. Alex has a really nice Cotic Soul mtb. Frst gig tomorrow night.
6. Took delivery of my BIg Baby 2 today - it appears i have number 1. Had a quick go this evening and it sounds awesome.
7.
I already have a 2nd gen Super12T and a Midget T but i really can't help but want a Big Baby 2!!! Has anyone had the pleasure of trying one yet?
Waiting patiently for mine! Any sign of it yet Alex?
8.
Is Harlow the standard distance from London?
yes definitely
9.
You need to add to a Big One.???? Where are you playing? Jet engine testing facilities? ;-)
Its more about the headroom really - at some louder gigs it feels like I am cranking the amp without much perceived volume increase. Using a GK MBFusion so getting 250 watts thru the Big One. It was either get a louder amp or an extra cab (which also gives me a spare cab for home use). I can get the full 500 watts now. I also wanted a tweeter so originally wanted a Big Baby 1 but Alex recommended hanging on for a Gen 3 version.
10.
Dear hyena001, Do you have an ACCURATE weight for this bass? - h4ppyjack ************************************************************************** Dear h4ppyjack, No, not really. It's the standard weight of any bass guitar. - hyena001 **************************************************************** Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!
If it helps, its a bit heavier than my Spector (which is about 8.5lbs) but a lot lighter than my Yamaha. Its an easy 3 hour gig bass and really comfy to play. If you want to try one, I am just up the M11 near Harlow - you're welcome to pop round one evening. If you can pick that up for £350 its a bargain imho.
11. Been a bit quiet on the Barefaced front for the last 24hrs so....... Who's got a new Gen 3 Barefaced cab on order and what is it? I'll go first with a Big Baby 2. Its to add to my Big One for noisier gigs.
12.
I believe this is a Blacktop Jazz Bass. http://www.fender.com/series/blacktop/blacktop-jazz-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-black/
Spot on mate - it is indeed a Blacktop Jazz. I have one and its an awesome bass. Very hot sound and somewhere soundwise in between a Precision,a really fat but zingy Jazz and theres a mutant Stingray lurking in there too. Massive bottom end but a great warmth too. Its a Jazz neck BTW. The picture angles make it look a bit odd but its a standard jazz body and neck just with different pickups. Heres a soundclip https://www.box.com/s/0giiip2y1612vfjh9dix
13. Interested to see how theyr gonna ship that with the neck off
14. Old guitar and case Short break holiday New guitar and case
15. "I was in a dodgy metal band when I was 14 and we played some real dives and inappropriate sized venues. The Standard in Walthamstow springs to mind.. All black painted walls with an enormous ramp the went out into the "crowd". It had the smallest back stage room I've ever seen with the grottiest sofa in all existence..." I played there many times back in the day......i just remember going a bit weird when i stood and played in exactly the same spot as Phil Lynott had stood when i saw him a few weeks prior playing with Grand Slam at said venue. Had a great fight in there once too - real barroom brawling that John Wayne would have been proud of (the singers 50 year old dad was barred for life for trying to strangle a Hells Angel that night). Happy days
16. Honey, I shrunk the amp
17. Another reason they hold their value is the fact that you cant just hop on the web/down to the shop and be playing it a few days later. You're likely to have a 3 month wait for the priviledge of playing one. To some, that means they are happy to pay top money to get their greedies on one quickly. I have a BB2 on order and likely to be delivered soon - it costs £699 new and i bet i could play it for 6 months and then pass it on (if i didnt get on with it) for pretty much the same to someone who doesnt want to wait. The only thing likely to change the second hand pricing is a sudden glut of Gen1 and Gen2 flooding the market as people trade up to a Gen3 and the fact that Alex has put things in place to shorten delivery times. I reckon they'll get a bit cheaper for a while and then increase again.
18.
I'll be interested to check out all these suggestions. I need a gig bag with a BIG pocket(s). Enough storage to take a GK MB500 head, 3 pedals, and associated leads. McNach, did you have a Warwick Rockbag? If so, do you think that it would have the pocket space for this gear?
Get a Protection Racket. I had one and carried almost exactly what you have listed above in it with loads of room to spare. Great cases - just ask Discreet!
19. I needed an extra cab to go with my old Big One and after some discussion with Alex he recommended the new Big Baby 2. The good news is that this was a few months ago and I should be taking delivery of the new cab sometime pretty soon
20. Handy to know what bass they've been taken off - then we know if they'll fit a Fender headstock or a 2+2 style one.
21. [sub]Some sort of pattern beginning to emerge here [/sub]
22. Looks like a Legend 6 to me One sold on here in the summer for £270 and theres a new one in Wunjos for £780
23. They are on the Kings Rd, Chelsea not Germany. Recently they were listing a bunch of Richie Sambora's guitars and also Rory Gallaghers old amp. I spoke to the manager and they seem to have some pretty rich contacts so I reckon they're just surfing the vintage wave. Samboras ones came about when they had a vintage Les Paul that Richie wanted - apparently he gets bored just writing cheques for stuff and wanted to swap a load of old stuff he doesn't use for it. That's how they ended up with about 6 of them from his garage. He said they have a load of famous names guitar techs that they just call when something interesting comes along and they pop down with the chequebook - eg Brian Mays bloke and AC30'S - that's where Rorys amp was probably heading too. I personally think most vintage/classic/80's Jap guitars are overpriced/rated anyway. The number of '80's "classic" Hondos, Kays and Columbuses that pop up on ebay (and even here) at stupid prices with someone touting "classic and great player" is laughable - most were rubbish then and are just old rubbish now. The only real exception I can remember being half decent were 80's Westones and Squiers. I had a 66 Precision in the late 80's which I bought for £100 because it had no pickguard and was well 'roadworn'. It played like a tree trunk and sounded rubbish so I sprayed it Ford Gemini Blue with car paint and stuck a mirror guard on it and sold it for £200 a few months later. Its probably worth a few grand now to the right buyer but it was a piece of poo then. Spent the money on a Westone Thunder 1a which was a much better bass. The Kramer 350b is at least £1000 too much - seen them go for £300 - 500 recently. The fact that Nick Lowe played it a bit is neither here nor there imho.
