1. Probably wouldn't have discovered him if I wasn't such a Michael Landau bore, only ever heard him with The Raging Honkies, his brother's long disbanded band. Only other claim to fame was he was married to singer Michelle Branch. Love his playing. Seems to have inherited the Landau tone guarantee as well. Check him out! https://youtu.be/9ANPcI7oELw https://youtu.be/u7p8YNt7V64
2.
This x1M.
Yes, his work looks to be of the highest quality!
3.
Andyjr1515 you can find him and his work in the Build Diaries topic.
Cheers!
4. Anybody know of anyone who could make an early 70's style Jazz Bass neck, and have a ballpark figure for price? I'm talking pre-75, so not bullet truss rod, maple/maple with binding and pearl blocks. John Shuker isn't far from me so may try him but all suggestions welcome!
5. Bought a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 off Mart, great transaction, great communication, great packaging and very prompt delivery. Great all round!!
6.
You must have been there when I was. You're right- Sean was great back then. I left in 1990. Hang on, I forgot- is that u Martin?
Ha! Yes, t'is I, Richard! 😉
7. Anyone tried the Mooer MP Power, Eneloop or RockBoard 9v rechargeable power supplies? Would be interested in hearing opinions. Just starting to assemble a few pedals and quite like the look of these (if they work). 9v is enough for my pedal needs and obviously not connecting to the mains means no noise. Good for nearly 800 recharges means 25 years of use at my current gig rate!
8. Sean, the sax player, was just starting his foundation course at Newcastle College when I started on the Jazz/Popular Music Diploma course. He was 17 years old and already better than everybody else there, sax teachers included. He was and still is totally driven to succeed and is clearly reaping the fruits of his labours!
9.
Why declare it, this is meant for pro's who are considered a bad risk. Doing a few gigs a year is a hobby it's not an occupation.
Yeah, I kind of feel the same way. Just not sure the law/insurance company would see it that way. That said, I think I won't be declaring it upon my next renewal.
10.
Not sure what you mean.... http://youtu.be/QAVm2bWulLc
Grooving like a bad wedding band...
11. Ha! A blast from the past! My fave Ozrics album. I remember it went very well with some "herbal accompaniment" way back when I used to do that sort of thing.
12. Hey, Car insurance for musicians, where are the best deals? Do I even need it anymore?? Gigs getting less and less each year, down to about 15 functions a year now and maybe a few pubs. Down as "entertainer" as second income (I have a day job) and premium for me and the wife to drive a ten year old Mondeo is around 800 quid! Should be less than half that without the "entertainer" element. I'm now in a kind of negative feedback loop where the gigs pretty much pay for the insurance needed to do the gigs! Tempted to do away with it and take the chance or to pack in altogether!

15. I'm looking for a P Bass pickup but have no need for the Jazz. Would you consider splitting them?

18. I bought what I'm pretty sure was the first SM400 and Goliath to come to the north east, from Rock City in Newcastle. The Goliath was wonderful, except when I had to carry it up to my fourth floor student flat after a gig. I was less impressed with the SM400. Maybe it was just too complicated for my young heed.
19.
Originally created by accident by a chemist trying to make optically clearer canopies for fighter planes
Well, I never knew that! Learn something new everyday.
20. Just been reading through an old TB review of the Carvin B1500 monoblock beastie, headroom and tone heaven was the general consensus, built like a tank too. Haven't seen any for sale on here for about four years and just wondered if there are any kicking around and getting used and what people's opinions are. I might be tempted by one at some time in the New Year if there are any around. Cheers!
